  • The purpose of this study was to compare the tensile bond strength of several self-adhesive resin cements bonded to dentin surfaces with different wet conditions. Three self-adhesive resin cements: Rely-X Unicem (3M ESPE, St. Paul, MN. USA). Embrace Wetbond (Pulpdent. Oakland. MA. USA). Maxcem (Kerr. Orange. CA. USA) were used. Extracted sixty human molars were used. Each self-adhesive resin cement was adhered to the dentin specimens (two rectangular sticks from each molar) in different wet conditions. Tensile bond strength were measured using universal testing machine (EZ Test. Shimadzu corporation. Kyoto. Japan) at a crosshead speed of 1.0mm/min. After the testing. bonding failures of specimens were observed by Operative microscope (OPMI pro, Carl Zeiss. Oberkochen, Germany). T-test was used to evaluate the effect of dentin surface wetness. One-way ANOVA test was used to evaluate the tensile bond strength of self-adhesive resin cements in the same condition. Scheffe's test was used for statistical analyzing at the 95% level of confidence. The result showed that wetness of dentin surface didn't affect tensile bond strength of self-adhesive resin cements and Maxcem showed the lowest tensile bond strength.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the improvement effect of adhesion in tension and flexure of polymer cement mortars that have widely used as a repair-reinforcement material in construction field according to adding of polymer dispersions depending on different three types test methods. From the test results, the adhesion performance is improved with a raise in polymer-cement ratio irrespective of the type of polymer. The maximums of A type adhesion in tension, B type adhesion in tension and adhesion in flexure show 1.90 times, 2.17 times and 1.83 times, respectively that of plain cement mortar. The relative strength ratios, B type adhesion in tension and adhesion in flexure of polymer cement mortars to tensile and flexural strengths of plain mortar respectively are in ranges of 50.1% to 101.7% and 73.8% to 132.9% compared to 46.9% of plain mortar. It is apparent that polymer cement mortars with EVA and polymer cement ratios of 10% to 15% are recommended considering its adhesion performance and cost as a repair-reinforcement material in construction field.

  • The waterproofing system's performance is known to show a determing by complex interaction of material factors, design details, and the quality of construction, and the waterproofing integrity of waterproofing membranes is determined by the bond to the deck and the amount of damage to the waterproofing membrane. In this research, the basic properties of waterproofing membranes on market and the tensile adhesive chracteristics of waterproofing systems of concrete bridge deck have also been investigated in the view of the damages frequently reported from job site. For the tensile adhesive strength of sheet waterproofing membranes, the results after asphalt concrete paving tends to increase more than before those. The results of the liquid waterproofing membranes are upside-down, and the more concrete has strength, the more strength of tensile adhesive increase. The ambient temperature of asphalt concrete when application of the waterproofing membrane has considerable influence on the performance of waterproofing system. As described above, waterproofing system can be influenced by several factors. If they are not considered under construction, the overlooking will cause the damages of pavement and waterproofing system after traffic opening.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the tensile bond strength of three commercially available glass ionomer cements as orthodontic bracket adhesives. 120 premolars extracted for orthodontic treatment were prepared for bonding and standard edgewise brackets were bonded with Shofu Glaslonomer Cement (Shofu Co., U.S.A.), GC Fuji ItGC Co., Japan), KETAC-CEM(ESPE Co., West Germany) with different P/L ratio. The tensile bond strength was tested by Instron testing device after 24hours and 3months from bonding. After debracketing, bracket bases were examined to determine the failure sites. The results of this study were as follows: 1. KETAC CEM showed the highest bond strength other than measurement after 24 hours and at its original P/L ratio, and seemed to have clinically a proper bond strength. It seemed, however, that both Shofu Giaslonomer Cement and GC Fuji I had an inappropriate bond strength. 2. The incorporation of additional powder into the mixture improved the tensile bond strength. 3. Prolonged storage time improved the tensile bond strength. 4. Of the failure, failure occured at the tooth-adhesive interface(54.2%) was the most common type. The second type of failure(36.7%) was combination type, where part of the adhesive remained on the tooth and part on the bracket. And the last type of failure(9.1%) occured at the adhesive-bracket interface.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of surface treatment of porcelain on tensile bond strength. To accomplish this purpose, this study was carried out with 120 samples which were divided into 12 groups with each 10 samples, and the first group was not surface treated, groups 2 through 5 underwent single surface treatment, and groups 6 through 12 underwent compound surface treatment. The results were as follows : 1. In statistic, all the single surface-treated groups showed higher tensile bond strength than the non surface-treated group and the sandblasted group showed the highest tensile bond strength as $10.34{\pm}2.50MPa$. 2. All the compound surface-treated groups showed no noticeable difference in the tensile bond strength(9-11.5MPa). 3. In statistic, no significant difference was found between the sandblasted group and the compound surface-treated groups. 4. There was no fracture of porcelain while testing in this study. Above study demonstrated that compound surface treatment or sandblasing, if used single surface treatment, should be employed to guarantee successful clinical application.

  • The strengthening performance of FRPs(Fiber Reinforced Polymers) is directly affected by the environmental conditions such as freezing-thawing and moisture because FRPs are usually bonded on the concrete surface. It is, therefore, strongly required to evaluate a durability of bond between FRPs and concrete as well as FRP materials itself. The freezing-thawing resistance of FRPs is evaluated in this study with the variables of freezing-thawing conditions, types of FRP and freezing-thawing cycles. From the test results, it is found that tensile strength and pull-off strength of CFRP are not affected by the freezing-thawing. On the other hands, those of GFRP show a little degradation because of continuous water immersion during thawing process. But, cautions are needed on the bond durability between FRPs and concrete in case of continuous water supplying from adjacent to the concrete.

  • In order to prove the applicability of rock bolts with compressible spacers, laboratory model tests and large scale model tests were conducted. Laboratory model tests were performed in various distance of compressible spacers to determine the optimal distance of compressible spacers. The optimal distance of compressible spacers was found that is 1/4 of rock bolts unit length. Large scale model tests that the size was 0.6 m (diameter) ${\times}$ 4.45 m (length) were conducted. Test results showed that pull out resistance could be increased up to 15% larger than that of unused case by using compressible spacers.
