  • In this study, the large-scale pullout tests are conducted to evaluate pullout resistance of steel strip reinforcement with transverse members. The test results clearly showed the passive effect by normal stress. This suggests that both friction resistance and passive resistance by normal stress should be taken into account in the evaluation of pullout resistance for design. Therefore, The evaluation results confirmed that the developed steel strip reinforcement with transverse members depend heavily on passive resistance by normal stress.

  • Tube drawing process is more sensitive to the friction coefficient but it is a hard task to analyze it's disposition qualitatively. This paper aims to calculate the mean friction coefficient from author's direct equation which amended from general rod drawing process, and compare the result with SACHS' or WILLIAM'S. From this study, the thickness change was inspected in multi-pass drawing. The thickness affected with the mean friction coefficient and the thickness was deformed more thicker than initial thickness on the condition of good lubrication. For the sake of a good estimation of mean friction coefficient, the radial force of die must be considered when the drawing process has some more area reduction about more than 10 percents.

  • Steel pile foundations are widely used for offshore constructions due to their high bearing capacity and efficiency. Typically, offshore structures that have reached the end of their design life are required to be demolished. However, pile foundations are often left on site due to technical and economic limitations. The pile left on the site not only pollutes the environment, but can also cause obstacles for the construction of new structures. Therefore, research is required to completely eliminate these foundations at the site. In this study, a new type of double-wall pile foundation that can drastically reduce the pull-out load was conceptually proposed, and a series of model tests were performed to validate the performance of the double-wall pile foundation. The installation and extraction of the double-wall pile were simulated in dry sand in the model test, and the measured up-lift load was compared to that of the conventional pile. According to the result, the maximum up-lift load induced by the decommissioning of the double-wall pile was reduced by 45% when compared to the traditional pile in dense sand. This study verified the mechanism for reducing the up-lift load of the double-wall foundation and confirmed the possibility of completely decommissioning a pile that has reached the end of its nominal service life.

  • In 1990s, with the increase of domestic building renovation but also increase the amount of anchor. The 45-degree cone failure theory has been used in concrete anchor bolts design, but the CCD (concrete capacity design) method was adopted as a new design method since 2000. However, the method has some problems because it is based on the experimental results of pre-installed concrete anchor bolts. In this study, the objective is to investigate the effects of anchor edge distance, anchor interval and concrete strength on pullout characteristics of post-installed concrete set anchor embedded in plain concrete.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the structural capacity of steel pipe pile specimens reinforced with hollow steel plate shear connectors by pull-out test. Compressive strength testing of concrete was conducted and yield forces, tensile strengths and elongation ratios of re-bars and hollow steel plate were investigated. A 2,000kN capacity UTM was used for the pull-out test with 0.01mm/sec velocity by displacement control method. Strain gauges were installed at the center of re-bars and hollow steel plates and LVDTs were also installed to measure the relative displacement between the loading plate and in-filled concrete pile specimens. The yield forces of the steel pipe pile specimens reinforced with hollow steel plate shear connectors were increased 1.44-fold and 1.53-fold compared to that of a control specimen, respectively. Limited state forces of steel pipe pile specimens reinforced with hollow steel plate shear connectors were increased 1.23-fold and 1.29-fold compared to that of a control specimen, respectively. Yield state displacement and limited state displacement of steel pipe pile specimens reinforced with hollow steel plate shear connector were decreased 0.61-fold and 0.42-fold compared to that of a control specimen, respectively.

  • Due to single symmetry of cross section, T-shaped members are likely to buckle in a flexural-torsional mode when they are subjected to axial compression. Therefore, the flexural-torsional buckling can be regarded as a governing mode of global buckling. An experimental program has been carried out to investigate the flexural-torsional buckling behavior of pultruded T-shaped members. Two types of pultruded members were tested in the experiment, and they were made of either E-glass/vinylester or E-glass/polyester. Lay-up and thickness of reinforcing layers, volume fractions of each constituents in layers, mechanical properties were experimentally determined. Two sets of knife edge fixure were used to simulate simple support condition for flexure and twisting, and the lateral displacements and the angle of twist were measured using three potentiometers. Every specimen buckled in a flexural-torsional mode, and most of the specimens showed post-buckling strength.

  • This paper is an experimental result of performing the prototype of anchor tests in field to investigate the ultimate uplifting capacity of permanent anchor embedded in weathered rock. For prototype of actual anchor test in situ, four grouted anchors having various anchor lengths were installed in field and their ultimate uplift capacities were obtained by analyzing test results of load-displacement curves obtained from field uplift tests. On the other hand, creep tests, applying pull-out loading at the stage of the maximum loading during 15 minutes, were performed to investigate ultimate resisting capacity of anchor so that the values of creep rate at the ultimate loading conditions were evaluated. Dial gauges were installed on the surface of ground to measure the vertical displacement distribution from the anchor so that the failure mechanism of permanent anchor embedded in weathered rock and failure boundary of ground during application of loading were evaluated.

  • The applicability of headed bars in exterior beam-column joints under reversed cyclic loading was investigated. A total of ten pullout tests were first performed to examine pullout behavior of headed bars subjected to monotonic and cyclic loading with test variables such as connection type between head and bar stem (weld or no weld), loading methods (monotonic or cyclic loading), and head shape (small or large circular head and square head). Two full-scale beam-column joint tests were then performed to compare the structural behavior of exterior beam-column joints constructed using two different reinforcement details: i.e. $90^{\circ}$ standard hooks and headed bars. Both joints were designed following the recommendations of ACI-ASCE Committee 352 for Type 2 performance: i.e. the connection is required to dissipate energy through reversals of deformation into inelastic range. The pullout test results revealed that welded head to the stem did not necessarily result in increased pullout strength when compared to non-welded head. Relatively large circular head resulted in higher peak load than smaller circular and square head. Both beam-column joints with conventional $90^{\circ}$ hooks and headed bars behaved similarly in terms of crack development, hysteresis curves, and peak strengths. The joint using the headed bars showed better overall structural performance in terms of ductility, deformation capacity, and energy dissipation. These experimental results demonstrate that the headed bars using relatively small head can be properly designed far use in external beam-column joint.

  • This paper described a results of direct shear test and pullout test by using soil supported by drilled shafts in order to evaluate the effect of relative density and fines content on pullout resistance performance of drilled shafts. The result of direct shear test showed that the variation characteristics of internal friction angle and cohesion could be confirmed quantitatively. The result of pullout test also showed that the effect of relative density and fines content on pullout resistance performance of drilled shafts was confirmed. That is, the contribution of the internal friction angle and cohesion of soils on the pullout resistance performance of drilled shafts was found to vary, when the fines content was about 13% based on results direct shear test and pullout test. Therefore, at design of drilled shafts, the effect of skin friction resistance should be considered on the influence factor of strength parameters ($c-{\phi}$) according to the fines content of soil.

  • In this study, performance of the post-installed anchor system was evaluated with reduced strength of concrete and anchor. One of the post-installed anchors was selected to performance evaluation. Concrete strength was reduced by freeze-thawing test, and the post-installed anchor strength was reduced by corrosion test. The post-installed Anchor was installed in concrete of freezing and thawing and original concrete, and corroded anchor was installed in original concrete only. Anchor diameter and installation depth of the anchor were the variable for each specimen. Performance of post-installed anchor system of each specimen was evaluated by pullout test. Anchor diameter and installation depth of anchor, it may affect the performance of the post-installed anchor system from the experimental test results. Fracture mode of each post-installed anchor system had occurred differently depending on the durability of concrete and anchor. The anchor pullout strength from the experimental test results was used in order to compare with the results of CCD (Concrete Capacity Design) method, and CCD equation was modified. Modified equation was able to predict the anchor pullout strength of post-installed anchor system in Original concrete and freezing and thawing of concrete.
