  • The purpose of this study is to illuminate the precise nature and the central line of Kant's proof of the causal principle stated in the Second Analogy of the 2nd. edition of the Critique of Pure Reason. The study argues for the following thesis: 1. The proof of the Second Analogy concerns only the causal principle called the "every-event-some-cause" principle, and not the causal law(s) called the "same-cause-same-event" principle. 2. The goal of the proof is to establish the possibility of knowledge of an temporal order of successive states of an object. 3. The proof is broadly an single transcendental argument in two steps. The 1st. step is an analytic argument that infers from the given perceptions of an oder of successive states of an objects to the conclusion that the causal principle is the necessary condition for the objectivity of dies perceived order. The 2nd. step is a synthetic argument that infers from the formal nature of time to the conclusion that the causal principle is a necessary condition for die possibility of objective alterations and of empirical knowledge of these alterations. 4. The poof involves not the 'non sequitur' assumed by P. F. Strawson, that is, Kant infers not directly from a feature of our perceptions to a conclusion regarding the causal relations of distinct states of affairs that supposedly correspond to these perceptions.

  • Louis I. Kahn is cleary one of 20th century great architects. The character of his philosophy of architecture can be condensed as simple words; Architectural Essence, because the very nature of his work based on historicity is so fundamental. Some contemporary architects and architectural critics regard it as a symbol of Post-Modern Architecture era expressing relative multiplicity or an expression of Heideggerian existentialism, but others do as the attribute of fundamentalist like absolute Plato's Idea. Comparing the former, studies of the latter theme have been executed superficially and somewhat biasedly for last decades. In the context, this paper attempt to reanalyze Kahn's idea of 'Architectural Essence' with the deep view of Platonist focused on the concept of binary opposition and causality.

  • The problem-based storytelling of the three-act structure, which sees the plot of the story as a solution to the problem of the character, has been the guide of creation to the creator of popular stories since Aristotle. Also problem-based storytelling has served as a schema that provides dramatic catharsis to the audience of the story, and one of the dramatic catharsis It has been working as a schema. This problem - based storytelling has been used as a structure for story production programs that have been developed since the 1980s. However, this story authoring program is focused only on the external problem of the story, but it has the limitation of producing the story that can not solve the internal problem of the character and provide the catharsis. This paper analyze the plot structure of 'StoryHelper', which is a domestic story authoring program, and the ending of 900 films, both domestic and foreign, which are database in 'StoryHelper'. 'StoryHelper' presents a problem-based plot structure that can consider not only external problems but also internal problems by applying causality and mythical episodes. The structure of these plots is based on the parameters of external problem solving, unresolved internal problem solving, and unresolved variables maturity plot(542films), disillusion plot(111films), education plot(132films), tragedy plot(205films). The results of this analysis are expected to provide a meaningful structure for plot-based creative and creative program development.

  • In this study, the views and the meaning of nature between the Western world and East Asia were compared through literature analysis. In the West, it is recognized that nature and human beings are separate. Nature is understood as regular and rational. They, therefore, take the view of particle and mechanical theory. In East Asia, it is thought that nature and humans interact with each other, and take an attitude of compromise and tolerance. Since nature is recognized as an ever-changing being, they, therefore, take the position of wave theory. Scientific knowledge and concepts are accepted depending on the personal view of nature. In Korea, science education follows the view of modern western science without considering the personal pattern of cognition, though students can have various views of nature. The attitude is needed regarding the various viewpoints as rich resources in science and science education.

  • This paper's purpose is to seek to grasp how Descartes demonstrates proofs of God's existence on the basis of his works especially Meditations. To consider these points, I shall explore first, second, third proofs that are present in his works, and contents related to God. Descartes argues that there is idea of God within me, but it is God, which is first proof. On the basis of this fact, Descartes shows only God is the cause of thinking self who has idea of God(second proof), both of them are called Cosmological argument. To investigate this, at first he states that representative reality that is different from formal reality sets a kind of hierarchy, the degree of this reality is equally applied to cause and effect, consequently to the cause of my idea or existence(God). From Meditation V, third proof which is called Ontological argument, Descartes examined a supremely perfect God can't be separated from God's existence(perfection) just as surly as the certainty of any shape or number, for example triangle, namely it is quite evident that God's existence includes his essence. Through these processes I shall examine following points: the way of having Descartes' proofs of God's existence itself is not only exposed, God's existence who guarantees cogito ergo sum which is never doubted, despite doubting all things that is outside, is but also postulated; Proofs for the existence of God are an ultimate source of ensuring the clear and distinct perception of human reason, Descartes uses reason suitable for non-christians instead of faith suitable for Christians for these methods, which are similarities with the traditional views on the one hand, but nevertheless there are some of discontinuities establishing authority or power of the first philosophical principle to which God is subjected, on the other.

  • In this paper, the author interprets Juyeok (The Book of Changes) as a philosophical book on self-culture instead of a book on divination. Juyeok, originally, was a book on divination written to tell fortunes; however, it has been a rich source producing the discourse of the humanities. This is because it has a unique system of linguistic symbols. Gwae-Hyo (Hexagrams and Horizontal Lines) system of Juyeok has a number of symbolic features, and there is too much room for new philosophical, cultural interpretations. Thus, Juyeok can be applied to any information and events, and it can, accordingly, help solve the problems of life we are facing. Moreover, Juyeok's unique characteristics are revealed very well in active intervention of persons who read and interpret it. Carl Gustav Jung is the very person who argued that one should interpret Juyeok through this active intervention. In the foreword of Juyeok translated by Richard Wilhelm, he mentions a possibility of the interpretation of Juyeok applying 'synchronicity.' According to him, Juyeok is a material not to predict the future or tell the fate ordained, but to look back on oneself or find the solutions of problems oneself. It allows the inquirer to interpret Gwae-Hyo-Sa (Explanations) not simply through the result of fortune-telling but the act of telling one's fortune. He applies 'synchronicity' to the finding of answers to one's problems in the given Gwae-Hyo-Sa. Synchronicity refers to 'the principle of non-causal relationship explaining a phenomenon of meaningful coincidence.' Here, simultaneity, unlike contingency the principle of causality refers to, means 'meaningful coincidence.' He presents a theory that the divination signs derived from Gwae-Hyo-Sang (Images) through synchronicity is a reflection of the psychology of the unconscious the fortune-teller or a man who receives the results of the divination signs has under certain circumstances on the outside. This is because Jung interprets it like this because the way of communication of Juyeok using symbolic language is not direct but indirect. Juyeok's system of symbolic language aims not at delivering objective knowledge, but the reader's self-transformation. This point can be applied in clinical philosophy. People who suffer from agony and pain in their daily lives may find meaningful and helpful advice for themselves no matter what Gwae-Hyo-Sa they choose in Juyeok. This is because it was originally hidden in their inner space and just revealed concretely through Gwae-Hyo-Sang or Gwae-Hyo-Sa in Juyeok. In this sense, we connect the meaning Gwae-Hyo-Sang or Sa contains from Juyeok to their circumstances, read counsel or advice needed ourselves and make it our own to be able to have power to change and help ourselves. And at this very point may be evaluated as an important role of Juyeok.
