Application of Serious Games for Science Education in Elementary/Middle Schools: A case of Science Heroes Game Development (기초 과학 원리 이해를 위한 기능성 게임의 활용: 사이언스 히어로즈 게임 개발의 사례)

  • In this paper, we have described a survey of applications and results of serious games for science education in elementary and middle school students. We constructed the educational contents and curriculum for learning natural science principles through game contents by analyzing science course of elementary and middle schools. Based on this curriculum, we developed science educational serious games 'Science Heroes' to help teaching-learning difficulty caused by abstract science concepts or spatial-temporal limitation. In our research, we carried out a serious game evaluation test for our game contents by current teachers about applicability to the real education field and supplementary points.

  • When the class is added of deleted in object-oriented system, restructuring of class hierarchy is needed which enables new relationship with classes. But existing system requires much additional analysis costs because it is difficult to know the meaning between parent class and child class. This paper presents the updates method based on semantic modification through new relationship classification method. This method measures the similarity of classes and based on it's relationship, this method restructures class hierarchy by classifying not-equality, part-of, equality, inclusion, subset relation. This method can minimize the probability of meaning error for classes when the class hierarchy is changed. Also this enhances the reusability and understandability through various graphic and text processing.

A Consensus-Building Support System for Water Environment Governance Based on Multi-Criteria Decision Making (물환경 거버넌스를 위한 다기준의사결정 기반 합의형성 지원시스템)

  • In this study, we propose a consensus-building support system to engage various stakeholders, transparently disseminate information, ensure objective decision-making, and reflect the view of each stakeholder as a methodology or tool for resolving conflicts that may arise in the process of implementing water environment policies and plans. The system suggests ways to resolve issues by engaging all interested actors and not just a few influential groups of stakeholders imposing their solutions upon local users. The system provides an environment where stakeholders can find solutions to conflicts through their own efforts, mediating competing interests through the interactions such as negotiations and conciliation to reach a consensus. To verify the applicability of the proposed consensus-building support system, simulated role-playing albeit restricted was conducted on the case of the Hantangang Dam construction. The simulation validated that open discussions and negotiations with the local community or NGO by the government increased the efficacy of negotiations.

An Analysis of Pre-Service Teachers' Understanding of the real number e (예비교사들의 실수 e에 대한 이해)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the concept of the real number e and to investigate the understanding of pre-service teachers about the real number e. 28 pre-service teachers were asked to take a test based on the various ideas of the real number e and 8 pre-service teachers were interviewed. The results of this study are as follows. First, a large number of pre-service teachers couldn't recognize relation between the formal definition and the representations of the real number e. Secondly, pre-service teachers judged appropriately for the irrationality and the construction impossibility of the real number e, but they couldn't provide reasonable evidence. Lastly, pre-service teachers understood the continuous compounding context and exponential function context of the real number e, but they had a difficulty in understanding the geometric context and natural logarithm context of the real number e.

  • University spinoff is a type of high-quality tech-startup that has high level of growth potential and ripple effects. Thus, the Korean government has been making continuous efforts to vitalize university spinoffs. However, existing legislation does not take into account clear definition of university spinoff as well as conflict of interests among its main agents (university, professor, graduate student, etc.). As a result, there exist various types of conflict of interests related to the university spinoff in Korea and that hinder activating university spinoffs. In this study, therefore, we reviewed studies of university spinoff and clarified types of conflict of interests related to university spinoff. Taken together, we diagnosed problems of university spinoff in Korea and proposed plans to vitalize it.

An Analysis of Modes in the Learning-Content Achievement Standards of Korean 2011 Elementary Mathematics Curriculum: Focused on 'Understand', 'Know' and 'Meaning' (2011 초등학교 수학과 교육과정의 학습내용 성취 기준 양태 분석: '이해한다', '안다', '의미'를 중심으로)

  • In this study, from the viewpoint that there should be no inconsistencies in stating the learning-content achievement standards of elementary mathematics curriculum, non-consistent use of the verb 'understand', 'know' and the noun 'meaning' which are used very frequently in the learning -content achievement standards of the Korean 2011 elementary mathematics curriculum are discussed. To this end, the modes that appear inconsistently in the 2011 curriculum, the 1997 curriculum, and the 2006 curriculum are investigated and analyzed. The result is that it is difficult to see that the verb 'understand', 'know' and the noun 'meaning' in the 2011 curriculum are used on the base of some principles. Based on this result, the following three suggestions are presented as the conclusions for the development of the future curriculum. First, it is necessary to restrict the contexts in which the verb 'understand' is used in stating the learning-content achievement standards. Second, it is necessary to clarify the difference between the verb 'know' and the verb 'understand'. Third, when 'the meaning of ~ ' is used, it is necessary to clarify what the meaning implies.

  • What is the impact of intercultural understanding and communication on a 'foreign' company's performance? We suggest that a firm's localization is a bilateral process requiring mutual understanding and respect of the foreign and indigenous cultures. To assess this argument, we investigate the relationship between mutual understanding (measured by power distance, communication satisfaction, and cross-cultural understanding) on organizational performance at Korean firms employing Indonesian workers in Indonesia. Survey and statistical results indicate that firm performance was negatively affected by power distance and positively affected by cross-cultural understanding. The results suggest a new perspective on enhancing the organization's performance for overseas operations. While it is necessary for Korean investors to understand local culture, educating local managers on Korean culture better enhances organizational performance.

Relationship between Health Literacy and Life Satisfaction according to Households Type of the Elderly (노인의 세대유형에 따른 건강정보이해능력과 삶의 만족도와의 관계)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between health information literacy and life satisfaction according to households type of the elderly targeting 9,820 people aged 65 or older using data from the 2021 Community Health Survey. Methods: This study used SPSS 27.0 to conduct logistic regression analysis to analyze the relationship between the study subjects' health literacy and life satisfaction. Results: Single-person households had higher life satisfaction when they perceived written health literacy to be easy to understand, and multi-person households had higher life satisfaction when they perceived health information explained verbally by medical staff to be easy to understand. Conclusions: There is a need to develop customized education programs and elderly health policies that take into account the characteristics of each households type.

  • 동영상 콘텐츠는 빠른 인터넷과 동영상을 수요, 공급 할 수 있는 기기가 늘어남에 따라 폭발적으로 성장하고 있다. 이에 맞춰 동영상 콘텐츠에 대한 연구의 중요성은 점점 증가하고 있으며 이러한 연구들을 필요로 하는 소비자들 또한 크게 늘어나고 있다. 그러나 동영상 콘텐츠의 폭발적인 성장과 다르게 동영상의 이해에 관한 연구는 아직까지도 큰 성과 없이 성장을 제대로 하지 못하고 있다. 이 논문에서는 이러한 동영상에 대한 고차원적인 수준의 분석 및 분할 기술을 통해 동영상의 이해를 가능케 하는 모델의 설계와 원리를 소개한다. 또한 이 기술을 활용하여 동영상 콘텐츠의 성장을 활용하는 방법 및 그에 대한 비전을 소개하는 논문이다.
