Analysis on the Textile and Dye Used for the Book Cover and Slipcase Housed in the Oryundae Korean Martyrs Museum (오륜대 한국순교자박물관 소장 필첩 및 첩갑에 사용된 직물 및 염료분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze on the textile used for book covers of "Gukgiboksiksoseon" and "Boepboksajeolboksaek", and slipcase of these books kept in the Oryundae Korean Martyrs Museum in Busan. These records are estimated to be written by Gyeongbin Kim(1831-1907), who was a royal concubine of 24th King Heonjong (reign 1834~1849) of the Joseon Dynasty. The cover textile of slipcase and two books are investigated to be silks by the FT-IR. The cover textile of slipcase is flower patterned satin with silver thread and the cover textile of two books are green and red with Su characters and bat patterned satin. The blackish part of pattern of slipcase is investigated by silver thread by FE-SEM-EDAX. Moreover, by the dye analysis, berberine, brazilin, and carthamin are detected from the cover textile of "Boepboksajeolboksaek". It is indicated that it was dyed with an amur cork-tree, a sappanwood, and a safflower. And rutin which is the main dyestuff of the sophora flower of the pagoda tree was detected from the yellow thread of the cover textile of slipcase.

The Quality of Salted and Semi-Dried Mackerel Processed by Cold Osmotic Dehydration during Storage (저온삼투압탈수법으로 제조(製造)한 반염건(半鹽乾)고등어의 저장안정성(貯藏安定性))

  • The quality of salted and semi-dried mackerel prepared by cold osmotic dehydration using a high osmotic pressure resin during storage at $5{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ was evaluated. The moisture contents in salted and semi-dried mackerel decreased in. range of 4 during storage. The brown pigment formation content and peroxide value of salted and semi-dried mackerel prepared by osmotic dehydration were more lower than those of salted and semi-dried mackerel prepared by traditional drying methods such as sun-drying, hot-air drying and cold air drying. The viable cell count and histamine contents of cold osmotic dried products were much lower and revealed a tendency to increase during storage, but even these values after storage of 15 days showed that the salted and semi-dried mackerel was safety in respect of food sanitation. The ratio of saline soluble nitrogen to total nitrogen in cold osmotic dried products were higher than that of traditional dried products during storage. Judging from the results of chemical and sensory evaluation, shelf-life of salted and semi-dried mackerel by cold osmotic drying were more longer than that of salted and semi-dried mackerel prepared by traditional drying.

Nursing Staffs' Experiences of Managing Medical Needs of the Elderly in Korean Long-term Care Facilities (노인요양시설 입소자들의 의료적 요구에 대한 간호직 종사자들의 관리 경험)

  • Purpose: This qualitative study was designed to explore and describe the nursing staff reported experiences of managing the medical needs of nursing home residents in South Korea. Methods: Using a focus group interview method, qualitative data were collected from March to May 2012. Twenty five registered nurses and nurse aids working in nursing homes were recruited through a convenient sampling method. Participants participated in one of four focus group interviews lasted up to two hours in which their day-to-day experiences of taking care of the medical needs of the elderly residents. All interviews were recorded and transcribed in verbatim, and analyzed according to the qualitative thematic analysis method using MAXQDA software. Results: The overriding theme was 'experiencing differences between the requirements of the regulatory system and the actual reality of the work place.' The findings of differences between what were true and what is required was based in four subcategories. The nursing home residents had far more medical needs than what were reported. Another finding was that the family members were seen as non-supportive and negligent towards the residents. Conclusion: The findings of the study support the need for changes in the regulatory system. The regulatory limitations of current system with a shortage of resources pushed the participants to experience discrepancies between the required regulation and the reality. Additional research could contribute more exemplars to support changes.

Survey on Working Conditions of Women Workers about a Part of Manufacture (일부 제조업 여성근로자의 근로환경에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to survey working conditions of women workers. We conducted a field survey of 504 manufacturing company with many women working from May 13 to June 29, 2002. We focused on only 3 categories of metal, textile and electronics industry. The result were as follows : 1. Subjects were constituted metal 27.0%, textile 37.9% and electronics industry 35.1%. Size distribution was small scale(<50 workers) 38.1%, medium(50-299 workers) 50.2% and large(${\geq}300$ workers) company 11.7%. Women workers' proportion was 43.6% of total workers, 63.8% of total contractors. 2. A medical examination enforcement of contractors workers was very poor in comparison with that of employees(p<0.001). 3. A 53.8% of total companies have conducted shiftwork system and 2-crew 2-shift(12 hours shift system) ranked first, 56.1%(151 companies). 4. Only 61.3% of total companies conducted more than 90 days as legal standard of a maternity leave and only 2.6% of total companies had a day nursery. In conclusion, many strategies for women workers are needed by companies and government. For example, the raising of understanding about maternity protection, social support insurancing of woman worker and occupational health system improvement for contractors and small size companies.

A Study of correlation between spherical refractive error and astigmatism (굴절이상도와 난시와의 관계 연구)

  • Many studies have reported that retinal defocus cause and increase refractive error specially myopia. Uncorrected astigmatism may be one factor of retinal defocus factors. To understand the relationship between myopia and astigmatism 62 college students were participated in this study. Spherical refractive error and astigmatism were measured using N-vision 5001 autorefractor (Shinnippon). Co-relations between spherical refractive error and astigmatism were high both in the with-the-rule astigmatism group(r=0.53; ANOVA F=32.40, N=87, P<0.05) and oblique astigmatism group (r=0.53ANOVA F=5.14, N=15, P<0.001). However it was very low (r=0.09; ANOVA F=0.18, N=22, P<0.001)in the against-the-rule stigmatism group. In the total group co-relation was also high (r=0.56: ANOVA F=77.80, N=173, P<0.001). Uncorrected astigmatism may cause and increase spherical refractive error.

Breeding of a new oyster mushroom cultivar 'Daejang 3ho' (느타리버섯 신품종 '대장3호'의 육성)

  • 'Daejang 3ho' is a new cultivar of oyster mushroom for high productivity than that of Chunchu 2ho. This cultivar was bred by Di-mon mating between monokaryotic strains isolated from 'Daejang 1ho' and dikaryotic strain 'Jangan 5ho'. The color of pileus and the shape of pileus of new cultivar were dark gray and deeply funnel shape, respectively. The length and thickness of stipe were longer and thicker than those of Chunchu 2ho. It took 4~5 days to formation of primordia, that was a similar to Chunchu 2ho. The optical temperature of fruit body was $14-17^{\circ}C$. Yield of 'Daejang 3ho' was 13.9% higher than that of Chunchu 2ho. Analysis of RAPD by URP-primer of #03, #08, #10 and #11 showed that different band pattern those of other strains. There were no significant differences between the texture properties of 'Daejang 3ho' and Chunchu 2ho.

Effect of Seeds Extract of Paeonia Lactiflora on Antioxidative System and Lipid Peroxidation of Liver in Rats Fed High-Cholesterol Diet (작약(Paeonia Lactiflora Pall.)씨 추출물이 고콜레스테롤 식이 흰쥐 간조직의 항상화계와 지질과산화에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the antioxidative effects of Paeonia lactiflora (PL) seeds on antioxidative defense system and lipid peroxidation of liver in rats fed high-cholesterol diet. Sprague-Dawley male rats weighing 100 $\pm$10g were randomly assigned into five experimental groups fed 0.5% cholesterol ; HC group which was not supplemented PL seeds extract, 0.1% methanol extract diet group (MP1 group), 0.2% methanol extract diet group (MP2 group), 0.05% ether-souble fraction diet group (EP1 group) and 0.1 % ether-souble fraction diet group (EP2 group). Experimental diets were fed ad libitum to the rats for 3 weeks. The activity of hepatic superoxide dismutase (SOD) was not significantly different among all the high cholesterol diet groups. The hepatic glutathione peroxidase (GSHpx) activity in MP2 group was increased to 27% compared to HC group. The activity of hepatic catalase (CAT) was not significantly different among the all high cholesterol diet groups. The hepatic glutathione S-transferase (GST) activity in the EP1 and EP2 groups were increased to 12% and 13%, respectively, as compared to HC group. The levels of hepatic TBARS in the MP1, MP2, EP1 and EP2 groups were reduced by 18%, 21%, 20% and 23%, respectively, as compared with HC group. The contents of lipofuscin in liver was not significantly different among all the experimental groups. The results indicated that PL seeds extract may be reduced oxidative damage by activating antioxidative defense system of hepatic in rats fed high-cholesterol diets.   • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of Forsythia viridissima Lindl. (FVL) on antioxidative defense system and lipid peroxidation of liver in rats fed high-cholesterol diet. Experimental diets were fed ad libitum to the rats for 3 weeks. The hepatic xanthine oxidase (XOD) activity in the MS2 group was decreased to 20% as compared to HC group. The activities of hepatic superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) were not significantly different among all the high cholesterol diet groups. The hepatic glutathione peroxidase (GSHpx) activity in MS2, ES2 groups were significantly increased as compared to HC group. The hepatic glutathione S-transferase (GST) activity in the MS2 group was increased to 20% as compared to HC group. The levels of hepatic TBARS in the MS1, MS2, ES1 and ES2 groups were reduced by 13%, 21%, 13% and 21%, respectively, as compared with HC group.   • 목적 : 약침액(藥鐵液)의 지질과산화 예방 및 cytocome P450과의 상호 작용에 있어서 대계의 역할은 과거 연구가 거의 없었다. 따라서 본 실험에서는 대계 약침액이 지질과산화를 예방하고, 심혈관계질환 유발에 밀접한 연관이 있는 cytochrome P450의 직접적인 저해 효과를 검토 하고자 한다. 방법 : 대계 약침액이 지질과산화를 억제하는 정도를 평가하기 위하여 세포막을 구성하는 불포화지방산의 일종인 linoleic acid를 대상으로 지질과산화 진행 시간과 대계 약침액의 농도에 의존적인 저해 효과를 실험하였다. 또한 실험쥐의 간조직을 이용하여, 강제적인 과산화를 유도한 후 이를 방어하는 효능을 검토하였다. 그리고 cytochrome P450을 구성하는 그룹의 1A1, 1A2 및 2E1의 활성을 각각 EROD, MROD, p-nitrophenol, aniline 방법으로 측정하였다. 결과 및 결론 : 대계 약침액은 세포막 구성의 불포화 지방산인 linoleic acid의 산화를 시간 및 처리 농도에 의존적으로 억제하였고, 실험쥐의 조직 과산화를 유의성 있게 저해하였다. 또한 aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR)을 활성화 시켜 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs)에 의한 심혈관계 질환 유발 인자로 알려진 cytochrome P450 1A1 및 1A2의 발현을 일부 저해하였으며, 특히 체내에 흡수된 알콜 대사에 관여하는 P450 2E1을 강하게 억제 시켰다.

Survey on the Current Status of Ecocentric Environmental Education in Korean Alternative Schools (대안학교의 생태중심주의 환경교육 실태 조사)

  • This study explored the current status of ecocentric environmental education in alternative schools. We analyzed the aims, curriculum, environmental activities of 42 alternative schools in Korea from their homepages and guidebooks. For more information, additional interviews with teachers were also conducted. As a resuts, the ratio of schools aiming ecologism were relatively low, however, 36 (85.7%) of 42 alternative schools included ecologism in their educational goals directly or indirectly. 39 schools included an environmental education in their curriculum, and 3 environmental class was opened in a week on the average. The most frequently used environmental activity in alternative schools was "recycling of solid wastes", and then "reducing use of disposable products", and "using environment-friendly, and recycled products" were followed. "Using water-purifier tank" and "using alternative energy" were also practiced. Educational implications of results were discussed.
