Development of Adsorbents for Edible Oil Refining using Agricultural Byproducts (농산부산물을 이용한 식용유지 정제용 흡착제 개발)

  • The purpose of this study was the development of adsorbents for the refining of edible oil using agricultural byproducts such as rice hull, barley hull, and soybean hull as well as evaluation of their adsorptive effects against free fatty acids and lutein, the major impurities of soybean oil. Ash-type and carbon-type adsorbents were produced from the hulls. Ash-type adsorbents such as rice hull ash (RHA), barley hull ash (BHA) and soybean hull ash (SHA) were effective for the removal of free fatty acids; the acid value of degummed soybean oil was decreased by 86% upon treatment with 5% SHA. However, carbon-type adsorbents such as rice hull carbon (RHC), barley hull carbon (BHC), and soybean hull carbon (SHC) were effective for removing lutein, resulting in a 52% decrease in the lutein content of degummed soybean oil upon treatment with 5% SHC. Whereas ash-type adsorbents were composed of mesopores or macropores with small surface areas and total pore volume, carbon-type adsorbents were mainly composed of micropores with large surface areas and total pore volume.

A Study on the Monolithic Characteristics of Contemporary Architecture (현대건축에서의 단일체적 조형 성향에 관한 연구)

  • This study is on the general characteristics of 'Monolithic' architecture. The intentions of monolithic architecture can be assumed as an attempt to replace the formal looseness or difficulties of understanding formal complexity of modern architecture, or a trial to react against contemporary avant-garde architectural tendency typically characterized as unstableness, uncertainty, fluidity, and articulation to reestablish autonomy of architecture. Buildings in this category coincide in their extreme economy and simplicity of overall form and consistency of external appearance while showing great expressional capacity with very limited formal means. Even though monolithic architecture still seems a little unstable and ambiguous in historical aspects, it can be considered as strikingly shaped objects or autonomous forms with identities, logics, and representation that promote recognition. Using architectural techniques of scale, colors, materials and finishes, monolithic architecture shows strategically invested surfaces that mediate between the inside and the outside, and shows unexpected and mysterious autonomy. This kind of monolithic approach is also found in interior space as a separate objects that contain functional space inside, or as formal elements that overflow the boundaries of conventional architecture by eliminating the distinction between floor, wall, and ceiling.

Human Pose Matching Using Skeleton-type Active Shape Models (뼈대-구조 능동형태모델을 이용한 사람의 자세 정합)

  • This paper proposes a novel approach for the model-based pose matching of a human body using Active Shape Models. To improve the processing time of model creation and registration, we use a skeleton-type model instead of the conventional silhouette-based models. The skeleton model defines feature information that is used to match the human pose. Images used to make the model are for 600 human bodies, and the model has 17 landmarks which indicate the body junction and key features of a human pose. When applying primary Active Shape Models to the skeleton-type model in the matching process, a problem may occur in the proximal joints of the arm and leg due to the color variations on a human body and the insufficient information for the fore-rear directions of profile normals. This problem is solved by using the background subtraction information of a body region in the input image and adding a 4-directions feature of the profile normal in the proximal parts of the arm and leg. In the matching process, the maximum iteration is less than 30 times. As a result, the execution time is quite fast, and was observed to be less than 0.03 sec in an experiment.

An Efficient Method for Representing of Binary Images by Region-centralized Shape Descriptor (영역집중 형태 기술자에 의한 이진 영상의 효과적인 표현 방법)

  • This paper gives a novel approach that can be represented an image efficiently with its region and shape information together. To do this, we introduced a region-centralized shape descriptor(RCSD) that the size of region only exists at a center point. RCSD consists of circles with three parameters, the distance and the angle between the tenter points, and the diameter, respectively We verified the RCSD parameters to have an information of shape. We can be proved this by reconstructing the shape from the given parameters and evaluated the difference between the its image and the original one. To get this image, we find the estimated points on the contour from the parameters, and connect them by using an interpolation. According to the evaluation, we obtained 88% performance for real images, and showed that it can be used efficiently for representing the binary images. Also we cu make RCSD parameters to be the normalized patterns to have an invariant of its scale or position, and expand them to improve the quality of the performance.

A Microscopic Analysis on the Shapes of Fundamental Diagram Using Time Gap (차간시간(Time Gap) 변수를 이용한 교통기본도(Fundamental Diagram)의 미시적 해석)

  • The fundamental diagram is a important element in a variety of transportation studies. While various shapes of the fundamental diagram have been proposed and numerous debates on the best-fit fundamental diagram have been made, the reason why the fundamental diagram has many different shapes has not been well explained. This study introduces time sap as a key parameter to understand drivers' behavioral differences at different locations and traffic conditions, then relate to the shape of the fundamental diagram. From the freeway event detector data, it is shown that time gap follows a certain probabilistic distribution and its mean value varies along locations. It also turns out that drivers take different time gaps for different travel speeds. Three different types of time gap-speed diagrams are identified and matched to Greenberg, reversed-lambda, and inverted-V types of fundamental diagrams, respectively. This study explains the characteristics of fundamental diagrams using time gap as a microscopic variable and describes drivers' behavioral characteristics according to traffic and geometric conditions.

Analysis on characteristics of shape indices through the comparison of regional woodland patches (지역별 산림패치 비교를 통한 형태지수의 특성분석)

  • 지난 수십 년 동안 형태지수는 패치의 복잡성을 정량화하여 생물종 다양성 보존과 같은 경관생태계획에 활용되어 왔다. 지역계획 연구자들이나 정책결정자들에게 경관구조와 패턴을 정량화하는 경관생태지수는 대상지역을 모니터링할 수 있는 하나의 수단으로 활용되어 왔다. 그러나 경관생태지수관련 연구를 살펴보면 연구 목적 및 범위에 따라 활용하는 경관생태지수의 종류가 매우 다양하고 복잡한 것을 알 수 있다. 또한 연구목적에 적합한 경관생태지수를 선정하는 것은 복잡한 수학분석과 함께 많은 주의가 필요한 것을 알 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 형태지수들을 도시지역, 도시외곽지역, 농촌지역 그리고 산림지역 등 4군데 사례지역에 적용하여 그 결과를 통해 형태지수들의 특성을 살펴보았다. 그 결과, 평균형태지수값(MSI)에서는 도시외곽지역이 가장 높게 나타났고, 평균프랙텔차원지수(MPFD)에서는 농촌지역이 높게 나타났다. 넓은 면적을 가진 패치에 가중점을 고려한 평균형태지수값(AWMSI)과 평균프랙텔차원지수값(AWMPFD)에서는 산림지역이 가장 높게 나타났다. 사용한 네 가지 형태지수값의 순위가 4군데 사례지역에서 다르게 나타났다. 특히 둘레와 면적의 로그전환을 이용하고 있는 프랙텔차원지수들의 경우, 도시와 도시외곽지역의 MPFD값은 같고, 도시외곽지역, 농촌지역과 산림지역의 AWMPFD값 차이는 적어 순위 분별력이 떨어졌다. 따라서 넓은 면적을 가진 패치에 가중점을 고려한 평균형태지수(AWMSI)가 지역별 산림패치의 복잡성을 잘 정량화할 수 있음을 본 연구결과에서 보여주고 있다.

Prediction of Defect Size of Steam Generator Tube in Nuclear Power Plant Using Neural Network (신경회로망을 이용한 원전SG 세관 결함크기 예측)

  • In this paper, we study the prediction of depth and width of a defect in steam generator tube in nuclear power plant using neural network. To this end, we first generate eddy current testing (ECT) signals for 4 defect patterns of SG tube: I-In type, I-Out type, V-In type, and V-Out type. In particular, we generate 400 ECT signals for various widths and depths for each defect type by the numerical analysis program based on finite element modeling. From those generated ECT signals, we extract new feature vectors for the prediction of defect size, which include the angle between the two points where the maximum impedance and half the maximum impedance are achieved. Using the extracted feature vector, multi-layer perceptron with one hidden layer is used to predict the size of defects. Through the computer simulation study, it is shown that the proposed method achieves decent prediction performance in terms of maximum error and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE).

Performance Enhancement of Marker Detection and Recognition using SVM and LDA (SVM과 LDA를 이용한 마커 검출 및 인식의 성능 향상)

  • In this paper, we present a method for performance enhancement of the marker detection system by using SVM(Support Vector Machine) and LDA(Linear Discriminant Analysis). It converts the input image to a binary image and extracts contours of objects in the binary image. After that, it approximates the contours to a list of line segments. It finds quadrangle by using geometrical features which are extracted from the approximated line segments. It normalizes the shape of extracted quadrangle into exact squares by using the warping technique and scale transformation. It extracts feature vectors from the square image by using principal component analysis. It then checks if the square image is a marker image or a non-marker image by using a SVM classifier. After that, it computes feature vectors by using LDA for the extracted marker images. And it calculates the distance between feature vector of input marker image and those of standard markers. Finally, it recognizes the marker by using minimum distance method. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves enhancement of recognition rate with smaller feature vectors by using LDA and it can decrease false detection errors by using SVM.

A Study on Recognition and Preference for Processed Product Developments of Mulberry(Morus alba L) Fruit Products (오디의 인식도 및 오디 이용 가공 제품 개발 방향 연구 (관련 산업체 근무자와 전공 학생들을 중심으로))

  • The purpose of this research is to investigate the variability of mulberry fruit products with the trend of increasing number of Mulberry farms and their fields. For this study, a survey on the number of usages of similar manufactured fruit products was conducted, and its results showed that 41.7% of industrial workers drink fruit products 3-6 times per week. The findings from the survey implies that industrial workers preferred the products in the order of syrup, frozen furee and jam while culinary students extracts, jam and syrup. Based on these research results, the primary product form of mulberry fruit for development would be syrup, sugar-free extracts and jam in order. As for bakery products, developing refrigeration products, bread and cake using mulberry fruit is highly required. When mulberry fruit products were used in food items, industrial workers and culinary students preferred vegetable and meat dishes, which means the necessity of developing dressings and sauces using mulberry fruit.

  • The current LINAC technique for radiosurgery utilizes a single isocenter approach with multiple noncoplanar arcs. This approach results in spherical dose distributions in the target. Many arteriovenous malformations and tumors suitable for radiosurgical treatment have non-spherical or irregular shapes. The basic approach presented in this paper is to use two or multiple isocenters with standard arcs to shape irregular target volumes through the use of multiple spherical targets. Selection of reasonable irradiation parameters in the first stage is critical to the success of real-time optimization. A useful guideline for optimum isocenter separation and collimator size is developed to shape the target margin uniformly with an desired isodose surface for an elongated target. The implementation of multiple isocenters with three dimensional dose model and application of multiple isocenters approach to several cases are discussed.
