A Study on the Development of Light Emotion Friendly Concrete Block for Efficient Application of Titan-oxide Photocatalyst (이산화티탄 광촉매의 효율적 적용을 위한 LEFC 블록 제작에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, the level of fine dust and ultrafine dust has reached its highest level, threatening the public's health. If the air purifier was not operated indoors, natural ventilation would not be possible. In this study, photocatalyst is applied to building materials to purify air in a passive manner. In order to use photocatalyst for LEFC(Light Emotion Friendly Concrete), it is necessary to secure self-consolidating capability. Therefore, self-consolidating performance was evaluated by slump test, J-ring test and L-box test with UHPC materials applied. Based on these results, the mixture proportion was determined, and the mechanical performance was evaluated by compressive and flexural tests. Concrete blocks were constructed with a fabrication method that improved the existing process of making LEFC. Also, the concrete block was emptied as a way to reduce the use of expensive photocatalyst. Finally, in order to identify the distribution of TiO2, an EDS analysis was performed.

Study about The Effect Alcohol and The Temperature Exert on $TiO_2$ Particle Production by Sedimentation Method (침전법을 이용한 이산화티탄 입자 제조에 알콜과 온도가 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • Using the Sedimentation method it's possible to get $TiO_2$ particle from which by this research, $TiO_2$ particle was produced. The parameter in the kind of the temperature and the alcohol solvent used $TiO_2$ particle production investigated crystal structure of $TiO_2$ particle and the influence exerted on the size of the particle and the form. After scanning electron microscope (SEM) analyzed methyl alcohol, iso-propylalcohol and tert-butylalcohol used by a solvent at the $TiO_2$ particle production, iso-propylalcohol was most effective. And after an thermogravimetric analyzer method was used, the anatase structure was maintained $500^{\circ}C$ by $200^{\circ}C$, but it was converted by the rutile structure by $800^{\circ}C$.

  • Inorganic pigment is excellent at stability to human body and compatibility with different materials and has been used in a variety of field such as cosmetics, printing inks, paints, and construction materials for improving the aesthetic features. In this paper, hydrothermal synthesis method was used to prepare the manganese and iron dopped with titania pigment. As process parameters, the amount of manganese precursor and iron precursor, and calcined temperature was changed. Optimum amounts of manganese and iron dopped with titania precursor to give excellent color index was manganese 1.0wt% and iron 1.5wt% for dopped titania, and Optimum calcination temperature was $550^{\circ}C$. The synthesized pigments were analyzed by XRD, SEM, EDS, Spectrophotometer and UV-Vis Spectrometer.

  • Photocatalyst reaction has limit of its usage because application range mostly centered on atmosphere purification area. Thus, it is true that an alternative plans are necessary to increase usage of $TiO_2$ as photocatalyst material. (1) The result of flow felt according to $TiO_2$ replacement rate has shown that both of anatase type and rutile type over 12% deviated from desired flow, $110{\pm}5mm$. Consequently, the range below 9% will be suitable when the anatase type $TiO_2$ if used for functional additives if workability is considered. (2) After compressive strength test, replacement rate 6-9% is estimated as suitable range if $TiO_2$ is used as compressive strength material. Rutile type and anatase type are suitable for in early-age strength and long-age strength respectively. (3) It was revealed that bending strength was dramatically decreased when replacement rate was increased. The main reason were the increase of $TiO_2$ doesn't influence hydration reaction and the decrease of bending strength. (4) The result from the water purification properties test using ion-chromatograhpy has shown that the condition with anatase type $TiO_2$ was normally better than rutile type on the same replacement rate.

  • Planarized SiO$_2$ particles were prepared by two-step reduction method of making much smaller particles, micron-sized ones, to improve spreadability, adherence, and smoothness. Various pigments known as flaky extender usually have terrace layers on their surfaces, but SiO$_2$ Particles in this study exhibit a smooth surface structure. These single SiO$_2$ particles were used for core particles to prepare the composite particles coated with ultra fine TiO$_2$ particles by a homogeneous precipitation method. The thickness and the morphology of the deposited TiO$_2$ layer could be altered by adjusting the reactant concentrations, reaction time and temperature. The characteristics of SiO$_2$/TiO$_2$composite in the field of color cosmetics is to give a UV-cut effect and to enhance the chroma of human skin color, one of optical properties.

Aggregation Behavior of Silver and TiO2 Nanoparticles in Aqueous Environment (수환경 특성에 따른 은과 이산화티탄 나노입자의 응집 특성 연구)

  • The aggregation behaviors of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and titanium dioxide ($TiO_2$) nanoparticles were investigated. Time-resolved dynamic light scattering (DLS) was used to study the initial aggregation of AgNPs and $TiO_2$ over a range of mono (NaCl) and divalent ($CaCl_2$) electrolyte concentrations. The effects of pH, initial concentration of NPs and natural organic matters (NOM) on the aggregation of NPs were also investigated. The aggregation of both nanoparticles showed classical Derjaguin-Landau-Verwey-Overbeek (DLVO) type behavior. Divalent electrolyte was more efficient in destabilize the AgNPs and $TiO_2$ than monovalent electrolyte. The effect of pH on the aggregation of AgNPs was not significant. But the aggregation rate of $TiO_2$ was much higher with increasing pH. Higher NPs concentration leads to faster aggregation. Natural organic matter (NOM) was found to substantially hinder the aggregation of both AgNPs and $TiO_2$. This study found that the aggregation behavior of AgNPs and $TiO_2$ are closely associated with environmental factors such as ionic strength, pH, initial concentration of NPs and NOM.

Evaluation of Self-Cleaning Performance of Mortar Using Nano-Titanium Dioxide Photocatalytic Coating (나노 이산화티탄 광촉매 코팅을 적용한 모르타르의 자기정화성능 평가)

  • This paper aims at estimating self-cleaning performance of mortar coated with photocatalytic suspension under various conditions. Experimental variables included the concentration (1.5 % and 3.0 %) of photocatalytic suspension for coating mortar specimen, the presence of hydrophilic agent in photocatalytic suspension, and applying the primer on the surface of mortar. The color change of methylene blue solution increased and accordingly self-cleaning performance increased as photocatalytic concentration increased. The presence of hydrophilic agent in photocatalytic suspension slightly decreased the self-cleaning performance compared to the conventional photocatalytic suspension. Test results also showed that mortar specimen including primer and specimen not including primer did not show significantly different self-cleaning performance. In addition, cracks on the surface of mortar specimens decreased as the photocatalytic concentration increased. Therefore, increase in cracks on the surface of mortar at different photocatalytic concentration might adversely affect the self-cleaning performance of mortar specimens.

  • Synthesis of $TiO_2$ nanoparticle paste is one of the important technologies in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC). Performances of the DSSCs from synthesized $TiO_2$ nanoparticle paste was similar or better than those from commercial sources. In addition. cell efficiency was further improved by using large scattering $TiO_2$ particles. Those results was utilized in manufacturing high efficiency DSSC modules.

  • Generally, $TiO_2$ powders absorb ultraviolet rays and make oxidation/reduction reactions on its surface. Hydroxide radical(OH), a product of photocatalyst reactions, has so strong oxidation/reduction electric potential that it can oxidize noxious gas like VOCs(Volatile Organic Compounds) and NOx. In this study, $TiO_2$ was substituted for exposed concrete to investigate the purifying degree of VOCs(Benzene, Toluene) and NOx. Anatase types of $TiO_2$ were used as photocatalyst. The sun rays and the ultraviolet were used as a light source. Anatase type $TiO_2$ was better than rutile type in purifying performance. The sunray showed the best purifying performance among the light sources. $3\%$ substitution of $TiO_2$ with the sunray was enough to purify VOCs(Benzene, Toluene) and NOx efficiently.

A Photocatalytic Degradation of Bromate over Nanosized Titanium Dioxide Prepared by Reverse Micelle (역상마이셀에 의한 나노크기 이산화티탄의 제조 및 브로메이트 광분해 특성)

  • Nanosized titania sol has been produced by the controlled hydrolysis of titanium tetraisopropoxide(TTIP) in sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate(AOT) reverse micelles. The physical properties, such as crystallite size and crystallinity according to R ratio have been investigated by FT-IR, XRD and UV-DRS. In addition, the photocatalytic degradation of bromate has been studied by using batch reactor in the presence of UV light in order to compare the photocatalytic activity of prepared nanosized titania. It is shown that the anatase structure appears in the 300~$600^{\circ}C$ calcination temperature range and the formation of anatase into rutile starts above $700^{\circ}C$. The crystallite size increases with increasing R ratio. In the photocatalytic degradation of bromate, the photocatalytic decomposition of bromate shows the decomposition rate increases with decreasing initial concentration of bromate and with increasing intensity of light.
