  • The purposes of this study were to examine online store attributes sought and evaluated by online shoppers and to compare those attributes with those of off-line stores. Data were obtained from an online questionnaire survey to 850 online shoppers who were randomly selected from the panel of an online survey agency, and 615 responses were analyzed. The t-tests revealed that there were significant differences on store attributes sought and evaluated by shoppers between online and off-line stores. Price related attributes (i.e., low price and reasonable price) and store name were more important for online stores while product related attributes (i.e., assortment, fashion, and brand) were more for off-line stores. Price related attributes, promotion, and entertainment were highly evaluated on online stores while product related attributes and service were on off-line stores.

  • The exploration of the interaction effect among the components of attractiveness is impossible; therefore, this study uses an indirect estimates approach with multiple scale items that can measure the interaction effect among the components of attractiveness to solve the problem of direct estimates. Previous studies focused on intra-store type competition as their subjects; subsequently, this study dealt with intra-store type competition as well as inter-store type competition in the competing and selecting activities among fashion retailing stores with different business models (such as department stores, road brand stores, discount stores, outlets and internet shopping malls). This study suggests a generalized model for shopping attractiveness of stores and proposes a fashion retailing store type attractiveness (FaRSTA) model instead of a simple relative importance between store selection standards.

  • This study establishes how the clothes consumption value, need for uniqueness, and use information sources could influence the importance of apparel product attributes and the importance of store attributes. Data were collected through a survey of adults in their 20's and 30's with 48 questionnaires for statistical analysis. The collected data were processed with the programs AMOS 16.0 and SPSS 18.0 for windows and reliability analysis, correlation analysis, factor analysis, and structural equation analysis were conducted to analyze the data. The results in this research are follows. First, the clothes consumption value influences the importance of apparel product attributes both directly and indirectly and the importance of store attributes indirectly through use information sources. Second, the need for uniqueness influences the importance of apparel product attributes indirectly and importance of store attributes both directly and indirectly through clothes consumption value and use information sources. The implications of these findings and suggestions for future study are also discussed.

  • As consumers' alternatives in fashion store selection increase, they select different store types to purchase different product types. Therefore, the probability of patronage mix behavior according to product type increases. Understanding consumers patronage mix behavior, finding out the determinant attributes of fashion stores for each product type are important to retailers and marketers for building a successful merchandising and marketing strategies. Most of the previous researches in store selection and patronage assume consumer behavior as single store patronage, and thus relatively little is known about patronage mix behavior. Also, little attention has been given to product characteristics as an important variable in store patronage behavior. The purposes of this study were to determine the effects of product characteristics in consumers patronage mix behavior. In this study, a theoretical model including product characteristics as an intervening variable between store attributes and patronage behavior was developed. A Questionnaire was developed and data were collected form 464 adult women living in Seoul area in Korea. Factor analysis, paired t-test, ANOVA, Duncan test and discriminant analysis were employed to analyze the data. As a result, the suggested model was partially verified. First, the product characteristic was found to have an effect on perceived importance of store attributes and on determinant attributes of stores. Consumers were found to use different evaluative criteria for store attributes when they purchase different product types. Second, the perceived importance of store attributes was determined by consumer characteristics as well as product characteristics. Third, the determinant attributes in store selection were affected not only by the perceived importance of store attributes but also by the type of product to be purchased.

  • This study determines a consumer retail store choice by applying the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method for multi-criteria decision-making in the fashion retail industry. The study provides detailed and relevant information for management, marketers of fashion retail stores, and to improve competition between suppliers. Data was collected in February 2011 from questionnaires completed by 319 university students in Busan, South Korea. One of the major findings of this study was that consumer store preference was affected by the following factors in order of importance: product, image, service quality, and purchase facilitation. Brand image was assessed to be the most important of the evaluation elements, followed by individuality, style, and price. The results of rating the relative importance and priority of fashion retailers showed that department stores ranked most highly, followed by outlet malls, Internet shopping malls, brand malls, and discount stores.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the characteristics for pattern by making a sort of various store choice behaviors and analysing impact both direct and indirect, which is based on the presentation of the influence of clothing store choice behavior into the causal relationship per store type against clothing shopping orientation, information search activity and store image attribution. The results was that consumers who like to the top brand's commodities, had commonly high tendency to and fro its trademark and store allegiance. Furthermore, they have usually bought something following on their inclination what they had purchased as well as the store decoration character and the marketing promotion attribute. The other consumers who prefer to the discount store's merchandises, had also high propensity and the biggest influence on buying something which were those factors; their instance shopping habit, utility-economy trait, follow the fashion character and strong circumspection tendency besides using the mass media Info., personal data and commodities' attribute.

  • With the proliferation of the "Untact" culture (non-face-to-face society), advanced technologies have accelerated the cashierless systems in the retail context. Cashierless fashion stores are expected to grow rapidly in the same way automated convenience stores grew in popularity. Applying the extended technology acceptance theory, this study aims to investigate how the attributes of cashierless fashion store influence consumers' acceptance of it and to examine how consumer's technology readiness moderates the model. Two online surveys-preliminary and secondary-were conducted to collect data from consumers in their 20s and 30s who had experienced cashierless stores over the past year. To analyze a total of 423 responses, this study conducted a confirmatory factor analysis, a multi-group factor analysis, a multi-group structure equation modeling, and a descriptive analysis. The results demonstrate that convenience, trustworthiness, and price had a positive impact on perceived ease of use, while service quality had a negative one. Enjoyment, convenience, trustworthiness, and price positively influenced perceived usefulness. Both perceived ease of use and usefulness increased the intention to use. Furthermore, the multi-group comparison confirmed that the positive dimensions of consumer's technology readiness played a moderating role in the model. This study provides a research foundation for consumer acceptance of technologically advanced stores and offers practical implications to companies planning cashierless fashion stores.
