Computer-Aided Diagnosis for Pulmonary Tuberculosis using Texture Features Analysis in Digital Chest Radiography (질감분석을 이용한 폐결핵의 자동진단)

  • There is no exact standard of detecting pulmonary tuberculosis(TB) in digital image of simple chest radiography. In this study, I experimented on the principal components analysis(PCA) algorithm in the past and suggested six other parameters as identification of TB lesions. The purpose of this study was to develop and test computer aided diagnosis(detection) method for the detection and measurement of pulmonary abnormalities on digital chest radiography. It showed comparatively low recognition diagnosis rate using PCA method, however, six kinds of texture features parameters algorithm showed similar or higher diagnosis rates of pulmonary disease than that of the clinical radiologists. Proposed algorithms using computer-aided of texture analysis can distinguish between areas of abnormality in the chest digital images, differentiate lesions having pulmonary disease. The method could be useful tool for classifying and measuring chest lesions, it would play a major role in radiologist's diagnosis of disease so as to help in pre-reading diagnosis and prevention of pulmonary tuberculosis.

Terahertz Time-Domain Spectroscopy and Imaging using Compact Fiber-coupled Terahertz Modules (초소형의 광섬유 결합형 테라헤르츠 모듈을 이용한 시간영역에서의 분광 및 이미징)

  • We have demonstrated a terahertz (THz) time-domain spectroscopy and imaging system using compact fiber-coupled THz modules. Using this THz spectroscopy system we have measured the absorption spectrum of water vapor in free space over 3 THz, as well as the refractive indices of various substrates such as Si, $Al_2O_3$, and GaAs using the transfer-function method. Through the THz imaging system we have observed a high-quality THz image of a medical knife and metal clip sample, with a resolution of $192{\times}89$ pixels using a step size of 250 ${\mu}m$.

Watermark Authentication Cryptography for Medical Image Security (의료영상 보안을 위한 워터마크 인증 암호화 기법)

  • In this paper, we preserve the transparency of digital contents by compressing and storing the medical image for a certain period so as to be safe and robust against various attacks of medical images. The proposed algorithm generates an encrypted image authentication code that extracts the feature value of the original image and combines it with the user's information. in order to extract hidden data, the authentication code is first decrypts the encrypted medical image and extracts the hidden data using the spatial characteristics of image. The proposed algorithm guarantees integrity when comparing extracted authentication code and newly generated authentication code for image authentication after directly inserting it into content itself through watermarking. We have proved various security of attack of image data and proved that the certification rate is improved to 98.4%.

A Study of Clinical Model for Radiation Therapy in Lung Cancer Patients of Busan and South Gyeongnam Province (부산, 경남지역 폐암 환자의 방사선치료 이용에 대한 임상 결정 모델 연구)

  • Radiation therapy for lung cancer is an effective treatment during monotherapy or combination therapy. Studies have reported that the optimum utilization rate of radiation therapy is estimated at 61% to 74%. Radiation therapy in Korea has been investigated to be low; further studies are needed. This study was intended to assess the appropriateness of the use of radiation and to reveal the use of radiation therapy-related factors by examining radiation therapy in lung cancer patients of Busan and South Gyeongnam Province. This study was aimed at the population diagnosed with lung cancer in Busan and South Gyeongnam Province. To conduct the study, 1036 patients enrolled in two hospitals were collected and 897 appropriate as subjects were selected. We compared the optimum utilization rate and actual rate of radiation therapy, and revealed the adequacy and related factors for use of radiotherapy. Of 897 patients, 503 (56%) were treated with medical therapy and 394 (44%) were given radiotherapy. The radiotherapy utilization rate of all lung cancer patients was 42%. The proportion of non-small cell lung cancer by histologic type was 33% and that of small cell lung cancer was 90%. Factors related to radiation therapy used in cancer were age, histological type, clinical stage, doctor refereed to, and clinical examination. Compared to radiation utilization by region (site), curative chest therapy was 42%; palliative treatment was 26%. In the comparison of histologic types, utilization of small-cell lung cancer is lower; the lowest especially in the stage III. Utilization of radiation therapy in Busan and South Gyeongnam Province was lower than the reasonable one. Utilization difference could be explained by patient factors, tumor factors, and health service factors. To improve utilization,development ofoutreach service programs and activation of the multidisciplinary team are required.

A Study on the Medical Costs on Last Admission in Terminal Cancer Inpatients for Hospice Care (호스피스 케어를 위해 입원한 말기 암 환자의 사망직전 의료비용 실태 조사)

  • Purpose : Death due to cancer has been continuously increasing, therefore cancer is the first in the cause of death now. A national policy for the elevation of medical costs in cancer patients is necessary, therefore, we searched for the medical costs and its related factors in terminal cancer patients for the effective reduction of the medical costs. Methods : We reviewed the medical records of 259 hospitalized terminal cancer patients who had died during the period of July 1, 2000 to June 30, 2002. History of cancer included type of cancer, type of past treatment, existence of metastasis. Clinical manifestation was examined and medical costs on last admission was categorized based on the account of charges of the department of patient affair on the last hospitalization. For analysis of factors related with medical costs, ANOVA was used. Results : Of the 259 patients, the number of male was 135 cases (52.1%), and the female, 124 cases (47.9%). The most frequent type of cancer was stomach (21.9%) cancer. Of the clinical manifestation, anorexia (87.6%) was the most frequent manifestation. Total medical costs was 740,628,045won, the mean costs was $285,968{\pm}3,070,272won$. The frequent category of medical costs was injection (32.0%), medical accommodation (27.9%), examination (14.0%), in order. The only factor related with mean medical costs was pain (P<0.05). Conclusion : If unnecessary injection of opioid analgesics is reduced, hospice care at home is activated and excessive examination is reduced In terminal cancer inpatients, it will be possible to reduce the medical costs in terminal cancer patients more effectively.

Factors Influencing on Influenza Vaccination Coverage (인플루엔자 예방접종률에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the factors influencing on influenza vaccination among socio-demographic characteristics and health behaviors. Data of 18,299 adults of age between 19 and 65 years who answered to the survey on National Health and Nutrition and influenza vaccination from 2007 to 2010 was used and analyzed. Overall influenza vaccination rate was 21.7%. Logistic regression analysis revealed that factors influencing on influenza vaccination were an increasing age, a residence in rural area, a high personal income, a low educational level, jobless women, experience of hospital visits, and morbidity of chronic illnesses. In conclusion, influenza vaccination rate in Korea is low and influenced by multiple socio-demographic factors and health behaviors. It is needed to seek a strategy to develop a vaccination program in consideration of factors associated with influenza vaccination.

Estimating the Determinants of Households' Monthly Average Income : A Panel Data Model Approach (패널 데이터모형을 적용한 가구당 월평균 가계소득 결정요인 추정에 관한 연구)

  • Households' monthly average income is composed of various factors. This study paper studies focuses on estimating the determinants of a households' monthly average income. The region for analysis consist of three groups, that is, the whole country, a metropolitan city(such as Busan, Daegu, Incheon, Gwangiu, Daejeon, Ulsan.) and Seoul. Analyzing period be formed over a 57 time points(2005. 01~2009. 09). In this paper the dependent variable setting up the households' monthly average income, explanatory (independent) variables are composed of the consumer price index, employment to population ratio, Index of housing sale price, the preceding composite index, loans of housing mortgage, spending rate for care medical expense and the composite stock price index. In looking at the factors which determine the monthly average income, evidence was produced supporting the hypothesis that there is a significant positive relationship between the composite index and housing loans. The study also produced evidence supporting the view that there is a significant negative relationship between employment ratios, the house sale pricing index and spending rates for care or medical needs. The study found that the consumer price index and composite stock price index were not significant variables. The implications of these findings are discussed for further research.

Image-adaptive lossless image compression (영상 적응형 무손실 이미지 압축)

  • 무손실 이미지 압축은 (Lossless Image Compression)은 손실이미지 압축(Lossy Image Compression)에 비해, 압축률(compression ratio)은 떨어지지만, 반면 원이미지와 복원이미지가 완전히 일치하므로, 원인이미지의 품질을 그대로 유지학 수 있다. 따라서, 이미지의 품질(Quality)과 압축효율(compression ratio)은 서로 상반된 관계에 있으며, 지금도 좀 더 놀은 압축효과를 얻으려는 여러 무손실 압축 방법이 발표되고 있다. 무손실 이미지 압축은 이미지의 정확성과 정밀성이 요구되는, 의료영양분야에서 가장 널리 쓰이고 있으며, 그밖에, 원본이미지를 기본으로 다른 이미지프로세싱이 필요한 경우, 압축 복원을 반복적으로 수행할 필요가 있을 때, 기타 사진 예술분야, 원격 영상 등 정밀성이 요구되는 분양에서 쓰이고 있다. [7]. 무손실 이미지 압축의 가장 대표적인 CALIC[3]과 JPEG_LS[2]를 들 수 있다. CALIC은 비교적 높은 압축률을 나타내지만, 3-PASS의 과정을 거치는 복잡도가 지적되고 있다. 반면 JPEG-LS는 압축률은 CALIC에 미치지 못하지만 빠른 코딩/디코딩 속도를 보인다. 본 논문에서는 여거 가지의 예측 모드를 두어, 블록단위별로 주변 CONTEXT에 따라, 최상의 예측 모드를 판단하여, 이를 적용, 픽셀의 여러 값을 최소화하였다. 그 후 적응산술 부호기(Adaptive arithmetc coder)를 이용하여, 인코딩을 하였다. 이때 최대 에러값은 64를 넘지 않게 했으며, 또한 8*8블록별로 에러의 최대값을 측정하여 그 값을 $0\~7$까지의 8개의 대표값으로 양자화하는 방법을 통하여 그에 따라 8개의 보호화 심볼 모델중 알맞은 모델에 적용하였다. 이를 통해, 그 소화값의 확률 구간을 대폭 넓힘으로써, 에러 이미지가 가지고 있는 엔트로피에 좀 근접하게 코딩을 할 수 있게 되었다. 이 방법은 실제로 Arithmetic Coder를 이용하는 다른 압축 방법에 그리고 적용할 수 있다. 실험 결과 압축효율은 JPEG-LS보다 약 $5\%$의 압축 성능 개선이 있었으며, CALIC과는 대등한 압축률을 보이며, 부호화/복호화 속도는 CALIC보다 우수한 것으로 나타났다.

A Research of the Residents' Availability and Health Effectiveness Based upon the Types of Green Roof (옥상녹화 유형별 거주자 이용행태와 건강효과)

  • The purpose of this research is to identify green roofs based on how to utilize the diverse space. This research also aims to discover the correlation between the use of the green roof and the overall level of the public's health condition, through which it is intended to grasp the health effects by means of the space of the green roof. The current use patterns of the green roof have been identified generally to have more than 60% accessibility, less than 30 minutes of short-tenn use, relaxation or removing stress, enjoy the view of the surrounding, smoking, walking and exercise. It will be highly effective to furnish facilities and plants for tree planting, and to get financial maintenance & management subsidy for the purpose of revitalizing the green roof. It is expected that if the green roof is created in educational institutes, hospitals and shopping centers, where the current level of health conditions is generally low, it will contribute in promoting the city dwellers' health benefits. In addition, the physical environmental renovation through establishing the green roof will bring about producing a healthy city because the emotional health benefits also will make a positive impact upon physical health.
