A Study on the Status and the Perception of Near Miss Reporting Activities in Domestic Manufacturing Industry (국내 제조업의 아차사고 발굴활동 현황 및 인식에 관한 연구)

  • A near miss is an unplanned event that did not result in injury/illness, or property damage, but had potentials to do so. The importance of the near miss has been emphasized by many researchers and organizations. However, only a few studies have quantitatively approached the near miss from the viewpoint of safety culture. The purpose of this study is to investigate the current status of near miss reporting activities in manufacturing workplaces in Korea. It also aims to understand how the activities related with the safety culture and the occurrence of industrial accidents. To this end, a survey was conducted on manufacturing workplaces and the results were analyzed. As a result, there was a marked difference in the perception on near miss according to whether or not the near miss reporting activity was conducted. However, it was found that only 56% of the workplaces were carrying out the reporting activities. It was found that the number of near misses reported varied depending on the reward. Although no correlation could be found between whether or not the near miss reporting activities were carried out and the history of industrial accidents occurred, it was found that safety culture level was hier at the workplaces conducting the activities.

An Acoustic Event Detection Method in Tunnels Using Non-negative Tensor Factorization and Hidden Markov Model (비음수 텐서 분해와 은닉 마코프 모델을 이용한 터널 환경에서의 음향 사고 검지 방법)

  • In this paper, we propose an acoustic event detection method in tunnels using non-negative tensor factorization (NTF) and hidden Markov model (HMM) applied to multi-channel audio signals. Incidents in tunnel are inherent to the system and occur unavoidably with known probability. Incidents can easily happen minor accidents and extend right through to major disaster. Most incident detection systems deploy visual incident detection (VID) systems that often cause false alarms due to various constraints such as night obstacles and a limit of viewing angle. To this end, the proposed method first tries to separate and detect every acoustic event, which is assumed to be an in-tunnel incident, from noisy acoustic signals by using an NTF technique. Then, maximum likelihood estimation using Gaussian mixture model (GMM)-HMMs is carried out to verify whether or not each detected event is an actual incident. Performance evaluation shows that the proposed method operates in real time and achieves high detection accuracy under simulated tunnel conditions.

Designing an App Inventor Curriculum for Computational Thinking based Non-majors Software Education (컴퓨팅 사고 기반의 비전공자 소프트웨어 교육을 위한 앱 인벤터 교육과정 설계)

  • As the fourth industrial revolution becomes more popular and advanced services such as artificial intelligence and Internet of Things technology are widely commercialized, awareness of the importance of software is spreading. Recently, software education has been taught not only in elementary school and college but also in college. Also, there is a growing interest in computational thinking needed to solve problems through computing methodology and model. The purpose of this study is to design an app inventor course for non-majors software education based on computational thinking. As a result of the study, six detailed competencies of computational thinking were derived, and six detailed competencies were mapped to the app inventor learning elements. In addition, based on the computational thinking modeling, I designed an app inventor class for students who participated in IT curriculum of university liberal arts curriculum.

Inundation Accident Analysis Using Hydrodynamic Model and Consideration of Disaster Roots Using Cause and Effect Diagram (동수역학 모형을 이용한 침수사고 분석 및 특성요인도를 활용한 재해 원인 고찰)

  • Recently, the damages by typhoons and heavy rains are increasing due to the climate change. However, we are still vulnerable to inundation disaster due to various causes such as poor physical flood control and lacks of disaster and safety management. Therefore, it is necessary to establish systems to ensure safety and prepare practical countermeasures that can minimize damage when an inundation occurs, thereby minimizing economic loss and casualty. In this study, hydrodynamic inundation modelings were implemented to analyze the "Noryangjin reservoir inundation accident" and "Choryang No. 1 underground road inundation accident." and spatial risk was assessed by a quantitative hazard index. In addition, cause and effect diagrams were provided to present the risk causes in terms of physical and managemental aspects.

Design for Safety System get On or Off the Kindergarten Bus using User Authentication based on Deep-learning (딥러닝 기반의 사용자인증을 활용한 어린이 버스에서 안전한 승차 및 하차 시스템 설계)

  • Recently, many safety accidents involving children shuttle buses take place. Without a teacher for help, a safety accident occurs when the driver can't see a child who is getting off in the blind spot of both frontside and backside. A deep learning-based smart mirror allows user authentication and provides various services. Especially, It can be a role of helper for children, and prevent accidents that can occur when drivers or assistant teachers do not see them. User authentication is carried out with children's face registered in advance. Safety accidents can be prevented by an approximate sensor and a camera in frontside and backside of the bus. This study suggests a way of checking out whether children are missed in the process of getting in and out of the bus, designs a system that reduce blind spots in the front and back of the vehicle, and builds a safety system that provide various services using GPS.

  • In this thesis, the traffic signal system is generally applied to the intersection of urban side streets, where blind spots and cramped areas are high risk of accidents, contributing to the prevention of accidents and smooth traffic communication. Therefore, the purpose of the system is to prevent accidents and facilitate traffic communication by providing a light traffic signal at street intersections in busy cities. Also, this study is a universal application of traffic angle to vehicles without the need for a separate terminal installation, and the provision of traffic signals in cities In addition, it is thought that the narrow loss of life on the road can serve as a catalyst to help optimize its function as a signal system that can minimize damage.

A Study on Improvement of Damage Impact Range Assessment for Field-Based Response Against Chemical Terrorism and Accidents (현장 중심의 화학테러·사고 대응을 위한 피해 영향 범위 평가 개선 방안 연구)

  • Chemical terrorism and accidents using chemicals are continuously occurring and attempted in and out of the country. In Korea, the National Institute of Chemical Safety affiliated with Ministry of Environment employs the CARIS(Ver. 2018) to assess the damage impact range for field-based response against chemical terrorism and accidents. However, the current version of CARIS can not consider the effects of closed space such as indoor and underground, so it is difficult to provide accurate evaluation results for damage impact range required for field response, on top of the limited information available. The limitations and directions for improvement were studied by comparing and reviewing the evaluation results of the damage impact range obtained by driving CARIS (Ver. 2018) and the domestic and foreign literature. Proposed improvements also included the direction of information provided to residents, including the need to build modeling for special points, such as underground, indoor, etc., and on-site response personnel. It is expected that through the continuous supplementation and correction of CARIS, chemical terrorism and accident response capability system will be advanced further.

The Factors Affecting Problem Solving Ability of Critical Thinking Disposition, Communication Skills, and Autonomous Educational Climate in Dental Hygiene Department Students (치위생학 전공 대학생의 비판적 사고성향, 의사소통능력, 자율적 교육풍토가 문제해결능력에 미치는 요인)

  • This study is to investigate the factors influencing the problem solving ability of dental hygiene and students' communication ability and critical thinking and autonomous educational climate. The subjects were 249 dental hygienists who attended two university from May 20 to June 1, 2018. Statistical analysis was performed with mean, t-test and one-way ANOVA. The overall mean of critical thinking tendency was 3.47 points, the total mean of communication life was 3.48 points. The overall mean of autonomous educational climate was 3.14 points and the total mean of problem solving ability was 3.40 points. The higher the critical thinking disposition score, the higher the problem solving ability. The higher the satisfaction of the major, the higher the problem solving ability. Therefore, if the program to improve communication ability, critical thinking tendency, and autonomous educational climate of college students majoring in dental hygiene is expected to improve the problem solving ability.

Influence of Critical Thinking and Empathy on Resilience of Senior Nursing Students (졸업학년 간호대학생의 비판적 사고 성향과 공감역량이 회복 탄력성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study is a descriptive research study to investigate the effects of critical thinking and empathy on resilience of nursing students. The subjects of this study were 234 nursing students in the 4th grade and the data were collected from June 3 to 19, 2019. Data was processed by descriptive statistics, t-test, correlation analysis, and multiple regression method. As a result of the study, critical thinking and empathy showed a significant positive relationship with resilience. Critical thinking and empathy were factors that influence the resilience of nursing students and the resilience was explained as 70.3%. Therefore, in order to increase the resilience of nursing students it is considered that an education program that strengthens internal factors can cultivate critical thinking and empathy skills is necessary.

  • The aim of this paper was to test the effects of simulation-based learning on knowledge, confidence, critical thinking disposition, and clinical competence to advanced cardiovascular life support of nursing student. This study used one group, pre-post test design. The participants of this research were 35 senior nursing students who underwent training in the medical-surgical nursing education. Data were collected by utilizing the questionnaire in two separate occasions: before and after the simulation-based training. As a result of this paper, the improvements of the knowledge, confidence, critical thinking disposition, and clinical competence to advanced cardiovascular life support were statistically significant. In conclusion, the simulation-based education has a positive effect on nursing students in the area of knowledge, confidence, critical thinking disposition, and clinical competence to advanced cardiovascular life support.
