We have observed foreign bodies in food and air passage in 270 cases during the period from Sep. 1976 to Aug. 1981 in E.N.T. department of Han Gang Sacred Heart Hospital. The following results were obtained. 1) Distribution of location was 256 cases (94.8%) in food passage and 14 cases(5.2%) in air passage. 2) Age distribution was predominent in under 5 years old showing 198 cases(77.7%) in food passage and 10 cases (71.4%) in air passage. Under 5 years old group in the cases of food passage, coin was the most frequent material : 175 cases(87.9%), and in the cases of air passage, plastic material was the most frequent material : 5 cases(50.0%). Over 40 years old group in the cases of food passage, bony pieces was the most frequent material : 8 cases(47.1%), and meats was second frequent material: 6 cases. 3) Male seems to be more frequently involved than female in cases of food and air passage. Food passage - Male: Female - 151 : 105 (1.4:1) Air passage - Male : Female - 10:4 (2.5:1) 4) Coin was the most frequent foreign body in food Passage (199 cases-77.7%). Others were metals, bony pices, and meats. Plastic material was the most frequent foreign body in air passage (7 cases-50%). 5) In the locality of food passage, the first narrowing of the esophagus was the most frequent site, and air passage, the bronchus-especially right bronchus-was the most frequent site. 6) During of lodgement was 218 cases (85.2%) within 24 hours in food passage and 9 cases (64.3%) within 24 hours in air passage, and in air passage one case visited 5 months later after the accident.
We report on kyanite newly found in the Yongduri gneiss complex of the Chuncheon-Hongcheon area, central Gyeonggi massif. Major mineral assemblage of quartzofeldspathic gneisses in the study area consists of biotite+ garnet+ sillimanite + plagioclase+ quartz${\pm}$kyanite${\pm}$K-feldspar${\pm}$muscovite. Kyanite occurs in four samples, and coexists with sillimanite in three of these samples. In most cases, kyanite is anhedral to subhedral, ranges up to Imm in the maximum dimension, and occurs as metastable relict grains. These observations indicate that the Yongduri gneiss complex has experienced a medium-pressure type metamorphism, followed by low-pressure type one belonging to the sillimanite+K-feldspar zone. Average temperature and pressure of the peak metamorphism are $683{\pm}62^{\circ}C$ and 4.9-5.5 kbar, respectively, when the existing chemical data are re-interpreted. In conjunction with the finding of kyanite in the Cheongpyeong-Gapyeong area (Lee and Cho, 19921, this study demonstrates that kyanite may occur regionally in central Gyeonggi gneiss complex. Moreover, the persistence of kyanite even after the high-T metamorphism of the sillimanitetK-feldspar zone suggests that the central Gyeonggi massif has experienced a tectonometamorphic evolution characterized by a rapid uplift.
The Jangsan Quartzite of the Joseon Supergroup and the foliated granite (so-called granitlc gneiss of presumed Precambrian age) of the Yeongnam massif are in direct contact at Cheondong-ri area, 6 km @SE of Danyang. sllthough it has been thought traditionally that the Jangsan Quartzite overlies unconformably the f&ted granite, it is difficult to interpret the contact as an unconformity smce the basal conglomerate in- the lower part of the Jangsan Quartzite does not have any clast of the foliated granite, Rather, recent structural studies of this area indlcate that the contact is a ductile shear zone. However, the sense and age of the shear movement are still problematic. Our mesoscopic and microscopic studies of &tre Cheondong-11 semi-brittle shear zone involving foliated cataclasite and phyllonite, which is a pa& of the Ogdong fault, indlcate a top-to-the northeast shearing, i.e., dextral strike slip. We also performed Pb-Pb dating for the age-unknown foliated granite, since the age of deformed granite ccarr emtrain the maximum age of deformation. The whole rock and feldspar Pb isotape data for the foliated granite and a micaceous xenolith define an isoc chron age of $2.16{\pm}0.15$ Ga ($2{\sigma}$;MSWD=4.4) which is interpreted as the emplacement age of the granite. This early Proterozoic age agrees with those of Precambrian igneous activity In the Yeongnam massif reported previously. The obtaiPrfid gge confirms the traditional idea about the age of the foliated granite and indicates that other methd(s) should be employed to constrain the age of the shear movement.

The compiled recent precise age data for the plutonic intrusions of Korean peninsula display that the Jurassic igneous activities occurred on the Yeongnam massif since ca. 200 Ma close to the boundary between Triassic and Jurassic. Since then the igneous activities propagated toward further north through time. The Jurassic igneous activities over the Okcheon belt and its vicinity areas began at about 180 Ma when igneous activities of the Yeongnam massif had been almost over. The igneous activities within the Gyeonggi massif located further north started at somewhat later period ca. 170 Ma. Jurassic igneous activities over the Okcheon belt and its vicinity areas ended a little earlier than the Gyeonggi massif area. Such timing differences upon geographic positions within the Korean peninsula seem to reflect variations in distance to the trench, in the direction of subduction, and/or in subduction angle. Therefore precise understanding of the variations in emplacement ages of Jurassic plutons within Korean peninsula can be a important clue to reconstruct the paleogeography and tectonic environment of the northeast Asia during the Jurassic.
The Jinwon Pb-Zn deposit is located within the Precambrian Youngnam Massif. Ore mineralization at the Jinwon deposit occurred in quartz veins that filled fractures in the Hongjesa granite. Mineral paragenesis can be divided into two stages(stage I and II). Stage I, at which the precipitation of major ore minerals occurred, is further divided into two substages with paragenetic time based on minor fractures and discernible mineral assemblages: substage la is characterized by pyrite, arsenopyrite ($28.4{\sim}30.3$ atomic % As), pyrrhotite, magnetite, chalcopyrite, sphalerite ($13.1{\sim}16.0$ mole % FeS) assemblages; substage $I_a$ is represented by main precipitation of Zn, Pb minerals and is characterized by sphalerite ($15.1{\sim}19.0$ mole % FeS), galena, miargyrite, argentile assemblages. Stage II is economically barren quartz veins. Thermodynamics study is used to estimate changes in chemical conditions of the hydrothermal fluids during stage I mineralization, the main ore deposition period at the Jinwon hydrothermal system. The range of estimated sulfur fugacity ($fs_2$) was from $10^{-7}\;to\;10^{-16}$ atm and oxygen fugacity ($fo_2$) was in the range of $10^{-32.8}{\sim}10^{-38.5} atm$. Carbon dioxide fugacity ($fco_2$) was $<10^{-0.6} atm$.
This study is focused on the relationship between whole rock boron contents and metamorphic P-T conditions of metasedimentary rocks from northeastern Yeongnam massif around Samcheok area, Korea. Metamorphic P-T conditions of sillimanite and garnet zones based on the Ti-biotite geothermometer is 553-687$^{\circ}C$ and 582-722$^{\circ}C$ at 4-6 kbar, respectively. In the metasedimentary rocks, boron contents in whole rock decrease with increasing metamorphic grade, from sillimanite zone (9.60-189 ppm B) to garnet zone (2.63-15.97 ppm B), except one sample (90.9 ppm B) from garnet zone containing graphites. Boron depletion in garnet zone has relation with mode of tourmaline which are broken down with increasing metamorphic temperature. Boron contents are indirectly proportional to major and trace elements such as $Al_2O_3$, MgO, $Fe_2O_3$, $K_2O$, Li, Ba, Sc, Co, Cr, Rb and Cs that are abundant in tourmalines. In conclustion, tourmalines and graphite are modulator of boron contents in metasedimentary rocks. In the biotite granitic gneisses, boron contents (2.62-12.2 ppm B) are similar or lower than those of metasedimentary rocks and have no relation with metamorphic P-T conditions.
Using the concept of granite suite/supersuite we hierarchically divided the Triassic granites in South Korea which have spatio-temporally close relationships each other. Among the Triassic granites in the Okcheon belt (western Yeongnam massif), the Baegrok granite and the Jeomchon granite can be grouped into one suite, the Baegrok suite, whereas the Cheongsan granite into the Cheongsan suite. These two suites can be grouped again into a larger supersuite, the Baegrok supersuite, on the basis of the similarity in the source rocks and the contrasts in the petrographic and geochemical characteristics. Three Triassic granites in the Gyeongsang basin - the Yeongdeok granite, the Yeonghae granite, and the Cheongsong granite - can be grouped into the Yeongdeok suite, Yeonghae suite and Cheongsong suite, respectively. These three suites can be grouped again into a larger supersuite, the Yeongdeok supersuite, on the basis of the similarity in the source rocks and the contrasts in the petrographic and geochemical characteristics. Nd-Sr isotopic signatures for the Baegrok supersuite are quite distinct from those for the Yeongdeok supersuite, indicating that the source materials of each granitic magma were not identical. The source rocks for the Baegrok supersuite are thought to be a mixture of two crustal components of the Yeongnam massif, whereas those for the Yeongdeok supersuite to be a mixture of the depleted mantle with the crustal components of the Yeongnam massif. The fact that the two contemporaneous granite supersuites were derived from the different sources can be explained by the difference of the tectonic environments where the granitic magmas were produced.
3-D P-wave velocity model in the southern Korean Peninsula is investigated by using the earthquake tomography method. This velocity model would be used to locate the exact hypocenter position, and also useful for our understanding of the crustal structure. The simultaneous inversion is used to get the minimum 1-D model and hypo-center relocation, which are used as an initial 3-D velocity model. The velocities in the minimum 1-D model are 6.04 km/s, 6.45 km/s, and 7.78 km/s between the depth of 0-19 km, 19-32 km, and 32-55 km respectively. In the 3-D P-wave velocity model, Layer 1 (0~3 km) has high velocities in Kyongsang basin, Yonglam massif, and Okchon folded belt, and low velocities in Kyonggi massif. In layer 2 (3~19 km) high velocities are predominent around Kyonsang basin and Yongnam massif except Yonil basin, but low velocities exist around Kyonggi massif and Okchon folded belt. In Laye. 3 (19~32 km) high velocities prevail throughout the southern part of Korean Peninsula, but low velocity does throughout the middle except SNU, YIN station in Konggi massif. In Layer 4 (32 km), the maximum velocity is showed in the middle and southwestern part, while the minimum velocity in the southeastern and coastal area. The depth of the velocity boundary corresponds to the crustal structure of the southern Korean Peninsula which is calculated by gravity data.
The Au-Ag deposit of the Oknam mine occurs as gold-silver-bearing rhodochrosite veins in biotite schist and phyllite of the Precambriam Yulri Group. Five stages of ore deposition are recognized, each showing a definite mineral assemblage. General mineral parageneses in veins (stage III) associated with gold and silver vary inwardly from the vein margin: arsenopyrite + pyrite $\Rightarrow$ sphalerite+chalcopyrite+galena+gold $\Rightarrow$ ga1ena+Ag-bearing minerals. Fluid inclusion data indicate that temperature and salinity of ore fluids overally decreased with time: $345^{\circ}{\sim}240^{\circ}C$ and 3.4~7.8 wt. % NaCl equiv during stage I (quartz vein mineralization), $313^{\circ}{\sim}207^{\circ}C$ and 2.3~8.7 wt.% NaCl equiv during manganese-bearing carbonate stages (II and III), and $328^{\circ}{\sim}213^{\circ}C$ and 3.6-5.4 wt.% NaCl equiv during stage IV (quartz vein mineralization). The ore fluids probably evolved through repeated pulses of boiling and later mixing with cooler and more dilute meteoric waters. Fluid inclusion data and geologic arguments indicate that pressures during the mineralization were in the range of 90 to 340 bars. Gold occurs as silver-rich electrums (21 to 29 atom. % Au) and was deposited at temperatures between $300^{\circ}$ and $240^{\circ}C$. Thermochemical calculations suggest that gold was deposited as a combined result of increase in pH and decreases in temperature, $fs_2$ and $fo_2$.
Precambrian gneiss complex in the Pyeongchang-Wonju area, which lies west of the Paleozoic sedimentary basin of the Yeongwol-Taebaek area, is being considered as a part of the Gyeonggi massif, but its ages of formation and metamorphic events are not well defined yet. In this study, SHRIMP zircon U-Pb ages were determined from the gneiss complex in the area, We obtained the discrete ages of magmatic (ca. 1960 Ma) and metamorphic (ca. 1860 Ma) events through the interpretation of the SHRIMP data based on the internal structures of zircons. These are almost the same to the ages of main intrusion and metamorphism reported from the Precambrian basements of Gyeonggi, Yeongnam and Nangnim massifs of the Korean Peninsula, Ages of 3200~3300 Ma, 2900 Ma, 2660 Ma, 2430 Ma, 2260 Ma, and 2080~2070 Ma obtained from inherited cores of studied zircons are also very similar to the frequently reported ages from the basement rocks of the Gyeonggi and Yeongnam massifs, Lower intercept age of about 270 Ma calculated from the rim data seems to indicate that the study area suffered from a late Paleozoic metamorphism (Okcheon Orogeny), but we need more reasonable and sufficient data to confirm it. According to the results of this study, it is suggested that the Bangnim group unconformably overlying the gneiss complex was deposited after the Paleoproterozoic granitic magmatism (ca. 1960 Ma) and metamorphism (ca. 1860 Ma).
