Recently, the clinical uses of flowable composite resins have increased because of fast, convenient and excellent accessibility, but little has been reported about physical properties of flowable resins. The purpose of this study was to measure and compare the physical properties(compressive strength, relative flowability, relative radiopacity) of 4 contemporary flowable composite resins(Filtek flow, Tetric Flow, Revolution Palfique Estelite LV high flow). The results were as follows; 1. There were no significant differences between 4 flowable composite resins in compressive strength, but all were lower than that of traditional hybrid composite resin(p<0.001). 2. The relative flowability were increased in order of Palfique Estelite LV high flow, Revolution, Filtek flow, Tetric Flow and sealant(p<0.001), but there were no significant differences between Filtek flow and Tetric Flow. 3. There were significant differences between flowable composite resins in relative radiopacity and they showed similar or higher radiopacity than dentin(p<0.001), especially Tetric Flow and Filtek Flow showed higher radiopacity than enamel(p<0.001). This results suggested that the stress of application area have to be considered since flowable composite resins have lower compressive strength than hybrid composite, and the differences of flowability between these flowable composite resins can be considered when they are selected. All tested flowable composite resins showed optimal radiopacity to ISO's recommend.

The aims of this study were to determine if flowable composites can be used as pit and fissure sealants without bonding agents. Three flowable composites(Filtek Flow, Tetric Flow, Charmfil Flow) and a filled sealant (Ultraseal XT plus) were used. The pattern of resin tag formation in the four sealant materials were compared using SEM. For the microleakage assessment, 54 extracted human premolar teeth were randomly divided into 3 groups containing 18 premolars each. In each group, a conventional filled sealant and one of the three flowable composites were applied to occlusal fissures. The teeth were thermocycled(1200 cycles between $5^{\circ}{\pm}2^{\circ}C\;and\;55^{\circ}{\pm}2^{\circ}C$ with a dwell time of 30 seconds) and immersed in a 1% methylene blue solution for 48 hours. Each tooth was sectioned and examined to determine the extent of dye penetration. Three flowable composites and a filed sealant showed a similar resin tag formation pattern. The three flowable composites showed significantly more microleakage in each group than the filled sealant. The level of microleakage was similar in the three flowable composites. Flowable composites are not recommended as pit and fissure sealants because more microleakage can occur even when occlural fissures are mechanically widened.

The purpose of this study was to compare the microleakage pattern of flowable composite resin to sealant, composite resin used in preventive resin restoration and glass ionomer cement used as liner. 120 extracted sound human molars were divided into 6 groups : group 1 and 2:sealant ; group 3 and 4:preventive resin restoration ; group 5 and 6:sandwich technique restoration. For the experimental groups(group 2, 4 and 6), flowable composite resin(Tetric flow) was used. For the control group, Concise was used as sealant material(group 1), Z-100 with Concise were used as preventive resin restoration(group 3), and Vitrebond was used as cavity liner(group 5). All the restorations were thermocycled and the degree of dye penetration was evaluated with stereomicroscope. The microleakage of each group was measured and statistically analyzed. The results of the present study were as follows : 1. In group 1 and 2, there was no statistically significant difference in microleakage between Concise and Tetric flow(p>0.05). 2. In groups of preventive resin restorations, there was no statistically significant difference in microleakage between Z-100 with Concise and Tetric flow(p>0.05). 3. The microleakage of Vitrebond and Tetric flow used as liner showed no statistically significant difference(p>0.05).

The aim of this study was to compared the penetration scores and microleakage levels of flowable resin in comparison to resin-based pit and fissure sealant. A total 120 extracted premolars were used and classified with group I (resin-based pit and fissure sealant), group II (flowable resin), group III (bonding agent + flowable resin), IV (fissurotomy + bonding agent + flowable resin) depending on the materials and the application methods. The penetration scores of the group treated with flowable resin following fissurotomy were similar to those of the group treated with resin-based sealant, but higher compared to those of the other groups treated with flowable resin without fissurotomy or bonding agent. The group treated with flowable resin following fissurotomy also exhibited the lowest microleakage levels. The group treated with resin-based sealant and the one treated with a bonding agent prior to the application of flowable resin showed similar microleakage levels. In conclusion, flowable resin may be applied as a pit and fissure sealant, and its application along with fissurotomy could increase the penetration scores.
This study investigated the effect of thickness of flowable resin lining on marginal leakage in class II composite restorations. 80 experimental teeth were prepared with class II preparations with enamel margin or dentin margin. Each group was devided into four groups according to flowable resin lining thickness ; Control group - no flowable resin lining, Group 1 - 0.5 mm flowable resin lining, Group 2 - 1 mm flowable resin lining, Group 3 - 2 mm flowable resin lining. The cavities were restored using Scotchbond Multi-Purpose adhesive system, Filtek Flow and Filtek Z 250 composite resin. Following one day storage in distilled water, the restored teeth were thermocycled for 500 cycles and immersed in $2\%$ methylene blue for 24 hours. The results of this study were as follows : 1. Ranking of mean microleakage scores at the enamel margins was Group 1 < Control = Group 2 < Group 3. The microleakage of Group 3 was significantly higher than that of Control, Group 1 and Group 2 (p < 0.05). 2. Ranking of mean microleakage scores at the dentin margins was Group 1 < Group 2 < Control < Group 3. The microleakage of Group 3 was significantly higher than that of Control, Group 1 (p < 0.05) 3. Compared with microleakage between the enamel and dentin margins, enamel margin group were significantly lower than dentin margin group.

The purpose of this retrospective study was to evaluate the survival rate by comparing Class II restoration using flowable resin composite with stainless steel crown in primary molars. Electronic medical records and radiographs of 1,504 primary molars with proximal caries of 590 patients from June 2015 to August 2019 were analyzed. With the collected data, survival analysis was performed using the Kaplan-Meier method. The 1-year survival rate of flowable resin composite in the primary molar was 98.5%, 3-year survival rate was 87.7%, and mean survival time was 39 months. There was no statistically significant difference between flowable resin composite and stainless steel crown (p = 0.896). Within the limits of this study, Class II restoration using flowable resin composite can be considered a promising option for the treatment of proximal caries in primary molars.

The purpose of this study was to compare the microleakage pattern of preventive resin restoration using conventional composite resin and flowable composite resin that recently developed. 60 sound premolar teeth were allocated to three groups. Flowable composite resin was used for the experimental groups(Group I and II) and conventional resin for the control group(Group III). After composite filling and sealant application, all teeth were thermocycled and evaluated for microleakage under light microscope. Additionally, a variety of voids formed inside restorations were also evaluated. Data were analyzed statistically using Kruskal-Wallis test and/or Mann-Whitney U-test. The results of the present study were as follows. 1. Microleakage found in all samples was only limited to the interface of restoration margin and enamel. 2. The flowable composite resin groups (Group I, II) generally showed less microleakage than control groups (conventional preventive resin restoration) (p<0.05) 3. Various types of voids were observed in most specimens. Especially, there was a tendency for more and larger voids to be found in group I, II than group III (p<0.05).
The purpose of this study was to compare the microleakage of low and high viscosity flowable resins in class V cavities applied with 1-step adhesives. Forty Class V cavities were prepared on the cervices of buccal and lingual surfaces of extracted molar teeth and divided into four groups (n=8). Cavities were restored with AQ Bond Plus /Metafil Flo $\alpha$, G-Bond/ UniFil LoFlo Plus (Low flow groups), AQ Bond Plus/Metafil Flo and G-Bond/UniFil Flow (High flow group), respectively. Specimens were immersed in a 2% methylene blue solution for 24 hours, and bisected longitudinally. They were observed microleakages at the enamel and dentinal margins. In conclusion, the low viscosity flowable resins showed lower marginal microleakage than do the high vis cosity flowable resins in class V cavities.

The purposes of this study were to evaluate the microleakage of class V composite resin restorations utilizing the different curing lights, to assess the flowable resin, $Filtek^{TM}Flow$(3M Dental Products, USA) and composite resin, $Filtek^{TM}Z250$(3M Dental Products, USA) which need 20s curing time for halogen light could replace $Z100^{TM}$ Restorative(3M Dental Products, USA) for the microleakage, and to evaluate the effect of adhesive resin on marginal microleakage. Light curing units used in this study were conventional halogen light, XL3000(3M Dental Products, USA) and plasma arc light, Flipo(Lokki, France). Class V cavities were prepared and each cavity was filled with each composite resin. After being filled, the teeth were stored in distilled water, polished, thermocycled and soaked in 1% methylene blue solution. Following results were obtained from evaluation of the sectioned surface. 1. There was no statistically significant difference in microleakage of $Filtek^{TM}Flow$ and $Filk^{TM}Z250$ between two kinds of curing units(p>0.05). 2. Flowable resin, $Filtek^{TM}Flow$ showed more microleakage than Z100 and $Filtek^{TM}Z250$ regardless of curing units(p<0.05). 3. Adhesive resin reduced the microleakage of composite resin in both halogen light and plasma arc light(p<0.05).
