  • A jet in a crossflow (JICF) has been extensively studied because of its wide applications in technological systems, including fuel injection into a ram-combustor. However, in the case of insufficient mixing performance of the liquid jet into the crossflow, the flame in a ram-combustor is unstable. In this study, the nonuniform flame and combustion instabilities due to lack of mixing performance were experimentally investigated. By performing correlations to predict the penetration height and break-up point, the spray and mixing characteristics of JICF have been studied. In particular, the improved correlations of penetration height are proposed in two distinctive domains depending on the X/d location of the crossflow.

  • LDO(Low Drop-Out) regulators have become an essential building block in modern PMIC(Power Managment IC) to extend battery life of electronic devices. In this paper, we optimize capacitor-less LDO regulator via Geometric Programming(GP) designed using Dongbu HiTek $0.5{\mu}m$ BCDMOS process. GP-compatible models for stability and PSR of LDO regulators are derived based on monomial formulation of transistor characteristics. Average errors between simulation and the proposed model are 9.3 % and 13.1 %, for phase margin and PSR, respectively. Based on the proposed models, the capacitor-less LDO optimization can be performed by changing the PSR constraint of the design. The GP-compatible performance models developed in this work enables the design automation of capacitor-less LDO regulator for different design target specification.

  • Efficient finite field operation in the elliptic curve (EC) public key cryptography algorithm, which attracts much of latest issues in the applications in information security, is very important. Traditional serial finite multipliers root from Mastrovito's serial multiplication architecture. In this paper, we adopt the polynomial basis and propose a new finite field multiplier, inducing numerical expressions which can be applied to exhibit 3 times as much performance as the Mastrovito's. We described the proposed multiplier with HDL to verify and evaluate as a proper hardware IP. HDL-implemented serial GF (Galois field) multiplier showed 3 times as fast speed as the traditional serial multiplier's adding only partial-sum block in the hardware. So far, there have been grossly 3 types of studies on GF($2^m$) multiplier architecture, such as serial multiplication, array multiplication, and hybrid multiplication. In this paper, we propose a novel approach on developing serial multiplier architecture based on Mastrovito's, by modifying the numerical formula of the polynomial-basis serial multiplication. The proposed multiplier architecture was described and implemented in HDL so that the novel architecture was simulated and verified in the level of hardware as well as software.

  • 2-D OCDMA is considered to be a viable technical solution for optical LANs, and a considerable amount of research effort has been devoted to various 2-D OCDMA techniques. In this paper, we propose two new interference model for 2-D OCDMA LANs employing unipolar random codes, and derive maximum-likelihood detectors based on these interference models. The BER performance of the maximum likelihood detectors and that of other existing detectors are compared through extensive computer simulation. In addition, the complexity of high-speed implementation of the detectors is assessed, and as a result, we found that the AND detector and the maximum-likelihood detectors for the pulse-binomial and the pulse-Poisson model offer the best trade-off between the BER performance and the facility of high-speed implementation.

  • As a criterion of information theoretic learning, the Euclidean distance (ED) of two error probability distribution functions (minimum ED of error, MEDE) has been adopted in nonlinear (decision feedback, DF) supervised equalizer algorithms and has shown significantly improved performance in severe channel distortion and impulsive noise environments. However, the MEDE-DF algorithm has the problem of heavy computational complexity. In this paper, the recursive ED for MEDE-DF algorithm is derived first, and then the feed-forward and feedback section gradients for weight update are estimated recursively. To prove the effectiveness of the recursive gradient estimation for the MEDE-DF algorithm, the number of multiplications are compared and MSE performance in impulsive noise and underwater communication environments is compared through computer simulation. The ratio of the number of multiplications between the proposed DF and the conventional MEDE-DF algorithm is revealed to be $2(9N+4):2(3N^2+3N)$ for the sample size N with the same MSE learning performance in the impulsive noise and underwater channel environment.

  • Most of rotor resistance estimators utilizes Classical qd Model (CQDM) and Alternate qd Model (AQDM). The rotor resistance estimators based on both models were shown to provide an accurate rotor resistance estimate under conditions where flux is constant such as a field-oriented control (FOC) based induction motor drives. Under the conditions where flux is varying such as a Maximum torque per amp (MTPA) control, AQDM based rotor resistance estimator estimates actual rotor resistance accurately even in different operating points. However, CQDM based rotor resistance estimator has not been investigated and its performance is questionable under condition where flux level is varying. Thus, in this work, the performance of CQDM based rotor resistance estimator was investigated and made comparisons with AQDM based estimator under conditions where flux level is significantly varying such as in MTPA control based induction motor drives. Unlike AQDM based estimator, the laboratory results show that the CQDM based estimator underestimates actual rotor resistance and exhibits an undesirable dip in the estimates in different operating points.

  • In the study, to minimize the error on guided control of the KV (Kill Vehicle) and to secure the hit-to-kill performance, a position accuracy inspection for the DACS (Divert and Attitude Control System) actuation system was proposed. The accuracy performance of the DACS actuation system is one of the most important factors in the interception of ballistic missiles. In order to validate actuation control accuracy of DACS system, an inspection item was set for position accuracy, and the inspection system was designed for DACS pintle. To measure the absolute position value of the DACS pintle, an external measurement system was developed using laser displacement sensors. The inspection system was designed so that it can be compared with the actuation command in real time. The proposed position accuracy inspection system can be inspected not only in a DACS system but also in missile system level. The position accuracy inspection was performed using the designed inspection system, and analysis of the inspection result.

  • In this study, the characteristics of self-healing mortars produced using an inorganic self-healing material consisting of ground granulated blast furnace slag, expansion agent, and anhydrite, were investigated. For three types of self-healing mortars with different amounts of the inorganic healing material, compressive strength was measured and the self-healing performance was evaluated through the constant water head permeability test. The healing rate and equivalent crack width according to crack-induced aging were used as indicies of healing performance evaluation. Considering the development of compressive strength of the self-healing mortars, the change in the healing rate with healing periods, and the economic feasibility, the optimal amount of inorganic self-healing materials was suggested as 20 % of the mass of cement.

  • Adversarial attacks, which induce malfunctions in AI technologies, can be applied to various domains and models, easily compromising SOTA (State-of-the-Art) models. Although adversarial defense techniques have been developed to counter these attacks, their applicability is limited due to constraints. Consequently, not only is the adoption of AI technology delayed, but also advanced research is restricted. To address this issue, this paper introduces a novel concept of adversarial data by reversing the sign of the loss function update in adversarial attacks. Experiments were conducted by applying the reverse-update adversarial data to data poisoning and adversarial training environments, showing that it can reduce the model's performance up to 72% and is most effective in enhancing robustness in 6 out of 9 environments. Ultimately, the proposed data can stimulate extensive research on adversarial attacks and defenses, further promoting the advancement of defense technology and contributing to the safe adoption of AI.
