The Moderate Effect of the Religious Fundamentalism on Religious Orientations and Subjective Well-being (종교지향과 주관적 웰빙의 관계에 대한 종교적 원리주의의 조절효과)

  • This study aims to investigate how religious orientation of college students and the religious fundamentalism are related to their subjective well-being, and the interaction of religious orientations and the religious fundamentalism on their well-being. The participants were 374 college students who studies at an university located in Seoul, whose average of age were 22.54 (SD=4.79). The psychological tests used in this research included the following: I/E-R, the Religious Fundamentalism Scale, the Spiritual Well-Being Scale, Emotion Frequency Test, Satisfaction with Life Scale, Subjective Happiness Scale, Life Satisfaction Motivation Scale, and Life Satisfaction Expectancy Scale. Although religious students experienced more religious well-being than non-religious students, their subjective well-being were not higher than those of non-religious students. Results reveal that religious orientations were positively related to subjective well-being such as life satisfaction, subjective happiness, and positive emotions, as well as spiritual well-being. However, those covariance was approximately 4~6% only. Religious fundamentalism was also positively related to spiritual well-being and life satisfaction, it was negatively related to the motivation to live though. On the other hand, moderate effects of the religious fundamentalism on the relations of religious orientations to most of subjective well-being variables. Results of simple main effect analyses indicated that the students who were strongly oriented toward religion with higher religious fundamentalism showed significantly higher existential well-being, positive emotions, life satisfaction, subjective happiness, and especially their motivation and expectation for future life, whereas there were no significant differences in subjective well-being of students with lower religious fundamentalism by religious orientation. This finding suggests that some religiosity variables could affect human well-being with interactions

The Factors Affecting Oral Health Recognition and Practices of Sixth Graders (초등학교 6학년의 구강보건인식과 실천에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • This study was conducted to provide basic data for improvement of the oral health management ability and the factors affecting oral health recognition and practice of 6th graders. The research subjects total 259 numbers of 6th grade students in two schools located in Changwon, it was investigated and analyzed with structured questionnaires. The collected data is analyzed by using IBM SPSS Statistics 19.0. The average oral health recognition score investigated were $3.19{\pm}0.41$, and $2.95{\pm}0.43$ for oral health practices. The oral health recognition was statistically significant differences by father's education (p<0.01), perceived oral health status (p<0.01), perceived grade (p<0.01), intention to attend oral health education (p<0.001). The oral health practices was statistically significant differences by father's education (p<0.01), perceived oral health status (p<0.001), perceived grade (p<0.05), parent's interest in child's toothbrushing (p<0.01), experience of oral health education (p<0.001), intention to attend oral health education (p<0.05). The factors that may improve the oral health recognition are in order of oral health practices, intention to attend oral health education, and parent's attention to child's tooth brushing. The factors that may improve the oral health practice was found to be in order of oral health recognition, parent's attention to child's tooth brushing, and perceived oral health status. As a result, in order to improve oral health management ability of 6th grade students, the surrounding environment, the attitude on oral care, the interest of oral, and the current disease status of oral health are required to be identified, then the oral health education program should be provided.

Present Use of Trails and Influential Factors on Trail Selection -in Mudeung-san Provincial Park- (무등산(無等山) 도립공원(道立公園)의 등산로(登山路) 이용현황(利用現況)과 등산로(登山路) 선정요인(選定要因))

  • Understanding of the reasons why users in recreation settings select particular trails may provide useful information for effective recreation resources management. This study investigated the present use of the major trails in Mudeung-san Provincial Park and the major influential factors on trail selection. This study was conducted in Mudeung-san Provincial Park stretching over Hwasun-gun and Damyang-gun of Chonnam Province and Kwang-ju city during August in 1996. Data were collected through on-site survey and mail-back questionnaire. 519(44.2%) out of 1173 survey samples were used for analysis. Reasons for selecting a particular trail were classified into 8 major factors. In overall, the order of the importance degree of the factors was 1) aesthetics of landscape, 2) safety(from physical and crime), 3) conditions for health, 4) quietness, 5) familiarity, 6) on the way to the destination, 7) convenience/social, 8) others' intention. There were differences in the degree of importance of each factor depending on trails, users' characteristics(eg., gender, age, group size, visit experience, etc.) and users' behavioral patterns. Recreation motivations were classified into 5 major factors. The order of the importance degree of the factors was 1) contacting with nature, 2) self-training, 3) solitude, 4) social interaction, 5) appreciating cultural properties. Regardless of trails, 'contacting with nature' was the most important factor, and the degree of importance in the other 4 motivational factors showed only a little differences in order according to the trails. There were correlations between major factors for trail selection and recreation motivations. The results of this study may provide foundational information for establishing effective management strategies through better understanding of the present use of trails and influential factors on trail selection. It can be used for reducing the present social and ecological problems caused by use concentration on certain trails and providing users with better quality of diverse recreational experiences. This study discussed the findings, and suggested some management strategies based on these information.

How to Determine the Moving Target Exactly Considering Target Size and Respiratory Motion: A Phantom Study (종양의 움직임과 호흡주기에 따른 체적 변화에 대한 연구: 팬텀 Study)

  • Purpose: To accurately define internal target volume (ITV) for treatment of moving target considering tumor size and respiratory motion, we quantitatively investigated volume of target volume delineated on CT images from helical CT and 4D CT scans. Materials and Methods: CT images for a 1D moving phantom with diameters of 1.5, 3, and 6 cm, acryl spheres were acquired using a LightSpeed $RT^{16}CT$ simulator. To analyze effect of tumor motion on target delineation, the CT image of the phantoms with various moving distances of 1~4 cm, and respiratory periods of 3~6 seconds, were acquired. For investigating the accuracy of the target trajectory, volume ratio of the target volumes delineated on CT images to expected volumes calculated with diameters of spherical phantom and moving distance were compared. Results: Ratio$_{helical}$ for the diameter of 1, 5, 3, and 6 cm targets were $32{\pm}14%$, $45{\pm}14%$, and $58{\pm}13%$, respectively, in the all cases. As to 4DCT, RatioMIP were $98{\pm}8%$, $97{\pm}5%$, and $95{\pm}1%$, respectively. Conclusion: The target volumes delineated on MIP images well represented the target trajectory, in comparison to those from helical CT. Target volume delineation on MIP images might be reasonable especially for treatment of early stage lung cancer, with meticulous attention to small size target, large respiratory motion, and fast breathing.

  • This paper develops the argument that the 'Healthy Cities Approach' extends beyond the boundaries of officially designated Healthy Cities and suggests that signs of it are evident much more widely in efforts to promote health in the United Kingdom and in national policy. It draws on examples from Leeds, a major city in the north of England. In particular, it suggests that efforts to improve population health need to focus on the wider determinants and that this requires a collaborative response involving a range of different sectors and the participation of the community. Inequality is recognised as a major issue and the need to identify areas of deprivation and direct resources towards these is emphasised. Childhood poverty is referred to and the importance of breaking cycles of deprivation. The role of the school is seen as important in contributing to health generally and the compatibility between Healthy Cities and Health Promoting Schools is noted. Not only can Health Promoting Schools improve the health of young people themselves they can also develop the skills, awareness and motivation to improve the health of the community. Using child pedestrian injury as an example, the paper argues that problems and their cause should not be conceived narrowly. The Healthy Cities movement has taught us that the response, if it is to be effective, should focus on the wider determinants and be adapted to local circumstances. Instead of simply attempting to change behaviour through traditional health education we need to ensure that the environment is healthy in itself and supports healthy behaviour. To achieve this we need to develop awareness, skills and motivation among policy makers, professionals and the community. The 'New Health' education is proposed as a term to distinguish the type of health education which addresses these issues from more traditional forms.

Distributed Hashing-based Fast Discovery Scheme for a Publish/Subscribe System with Densely Distributed Participants (참가자가 밀집된 환경에서의 게재/구독을 위한 분산 해쉬 기반의 고속 서비스 탐색 기법)

  • Pub/sub system enables data users to access any necessary data without knowledge of the data producer and synchronization with the data producer. It is widely used as the middleware technology for the data-centric services. DDS (Data Distribution Service) is a standard middleware supported by the OMG (Object Management Group), one of global standardization organizations. It is considered quite useful as a standard middleware for US military services. However, it is well-known that it takes considerably long time in searching the Participants and Endpoints in the system, especially when the system is booting up. In this paper, we propose a discovery scheme to reduce the latency when the participants and Endpoints are densely distributed in a small area. We propose to modify the standard DDS discovery process in three folds. First, we integrate the Endpoint discovery process with the Participant discovery process. Second, we reduce the number of connections per participant during the discovery process by adopting the concept of successors in Distributed Hashing scheme. Third, instead of UDP, the participants are connected through TCP to exploit the reliable delivery feature of TCP. We evaluated the performance of our scheme by comparing with the standard DDS discovery process. The evaluation results show that our scheme achieves quite lower discovery latency in case that the Participants and the Endpoints are densely distributed in a local network.

A Study on the Linkage Method between Emergency Simulation Model and Other Models (비상대비 시뮬레이션 모델의 타 모델 연동방안 연구)

  • This study is a study on the interlocking method between emergency preparedness simulation model and military exercise war game model. The national emergency preparedness government exercises are being carried out by a message exercise and technology development for simulation models is being carried out to create a situation similar to the actual practice. In order to create a situation similar to the actual war, the military situation must be reflected and to do so, a link with the military exercise war game model is needed. The military exercise war game model applies HLA/RTI, which is a standardized interlocking method for various models such as Taegeuk JOS, and it is necessary to apply HLA/RTI linkage method to link with these military exercise war game models. In addition, since the emergency preparedness simulation model requires limited information such as enemy location and enemy attack situation on major facilities in the military exercise model, a method of interlocking that can select and link information is required. Therefore, in this study, the interlocking interface design plan is presented in order to selectively link the interlocking method and information between the emergency preparedness simulation model and the military exercise war game model. The main functions of interlocking interface include federation synchronization, storage and recovery, object management service, time management, and data filtering functions.

Factors Affecting the Drinking of Middle School Students from an Urban Area Populated with Low-Income Families (도시 저소득층 밀집지역 중학생의 음주 영향요인)

  • This study investigated factors affecting drinking in middle school students from an urban area populated with low-income families to provide data necessary for drinking prevention. The subjects consisted of 1,192 middle school students. Analysis of collected data was carried out by descriptive statistics and stepwise multiple regression using SPSS 19.0 software. The proportion of students who had drinking experience was 44.1%, among which 57.2% first experienced drinking during elementary school or earlier. The highest motivation for student's drinking was encouragement by parents at 48.9% while 12.0% of parents were indifferent to drinking by their children and 21.5% permitted drinking. Scores for subjects' loneliness, father's parenting, and mother's parenting were 36.71, 40.07, and 50.87, respectively. Factors affecting drinking were identified as school life, parent's attitude to children's drinking, and father's parenting. These results suggest that it is necessary to develop drinking prevention programs for middle school students in urban areas with high populations of low-income families as well as follow-up studies over wider urban areas of low-income population.

Preliminary Design and Implementation of 3D Sound Play Interface for Graphic Contents Developer (그래픽 콘텐츠 개발자를 위한 입체음 재생 인터페이스 기본 설계 및 구현)

  • Due to the advance of H/W and S/W techniques to play 3D sound, the virtual space contented by 3D graphics and sounds can provide users more improved realities and vividness. However for the small 3D contents developers and companies, it is hard to implement 3D sound techniques because the implementation requires expensive sound engines, 3D sound technical understanding and 3D sound programming skills. Therefore 3D-sound-playing-interface is necessary to easy and cost-effective 3D sound implementation. Using this interface, graphics experts can easily add 3D sound techniques to their applications. In this paper, the followings are designed and implemented as a preliminary stage in the way of developing the 3D sound playing interface. First, we develop 3D sound S/W modules converting mono to 3D sound in PC based systems. Second, we develop the interconnection modules to map 3D graphic objects and sound sources. The developed modules in this paper can allow the user to percept sound source position and surround effect at the moving positions in the virtual world. In the coming works, we are going to develop the more completed 3D sound playing interface consisted of the synchronization technique for sound and moving objects, and HRTF.

An Exploration of the Relationship Between Virtual Museum Exhibitions and Visitors' Responses (미술관, 박물관 가상전시디자인에 대한 관람객의 반응연구)

  • This study began with an assumption that virtual museum exhibitions will continue to be created in the future and more knowledge is required about designing effective virtual exhibit designs. This study explored the relationship between virtual exhibitions and visitor's opinions following the viewing of the virtual exhibit in order to determine the components of a well-constructed virtual exhibit design. To address the research problem, this study explored two aspects of virtual exhibit design: 1) what are the components of a well-constructed virtual exhibit, 2) how does viewing the virtual exhibit change visitors' opinions about both physical and virtual museum experiences. The methodology of the study employed surveys, interviews and observations as instruments of data collection. Twenty-five participants were given a survey prior to their viewing of the on-line exhibit, then they were given the opportunity to view the web-site and finally surveyed regarding their opinions. From the 25 participants, six were selected for observation to record behavior exhibited while they viewed the site. In addition, five were interviewed for a better understanding of their responses to various aspects of the virtual exhibit experiences. Data from the surveys was tabulated for descriptive percentages in order to identify numerical patterns of relationship. Observation data was analyzed for simple frequencies in categories of responses and interview data was tape recorded and transcribed into text files. Based on study results, recommendations were made for the future role of interior design in virtual space that stands independent from a physical building and resides only on the Internet.
