A column chemistry is the most useful tools for isolating the elements of interest in isotope geochemistry. Here we introduce the chemical experimental procedure for Sm, Nd, La and Ce separation such as Teflon powder or Ln-resin method using HDEHP of KIGAM, KBSI, KOPRI and ${\alpha}$-HIBA(${\alpha}$-Hydroxy Isobutyric acid) method of Nagoya University, Japan. This technical report will provide an useful information in selecting the experiment method for rare earth element isotope system study such as Sm-Nd and La-Ce isotope system.
An ion-association chromatography was applied for the separation and determination of individual rare earth elements (REE) contained in mineral monazite. Prior to the determination, the group separation of REE was achieved by a cation exchange column of Dowex 5OW-X8 resin. The quantitative recovery of REE by the resin column, free from coexisting elements in monazite, was confirmed with radioactive tracers as well as with ICP-MS. Individual REE at ppm level was separated on reversed-phase column ($\mu$-Bondapak $C_{18}$) using gradient elution from 0.05 to 0.3 M $\alpha$-hydroxyisobutyric acid at pH 4.6. The individual REE was detected at 546 nm following post-column reaction with PAR (4-(2-pyridylazo)-resorcinol monosodium salt).
We measured the permeation characteristics of water with the hydrophobic PTFE membranes dependent on water temperature to confirm the separation of oxygen isotopes using Air Gap Membrane Distillation (AGMD) and Vacuum Enhanced Membrane Distillation (VEMD). Isotopic concentrations of $H_2^{16}O$ and $H_2^{18}O$ of the permeated water vapor were measured by Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy. Concentrations of the heavy oxygen isotopes in the permeated water vapor were decreased. Isotope separation coefficients for the hydrophobic PTFE membranes were 1.004∼1.01 depending on the experimental conditions. We observed the effects of air in membrane pores on the oxygen isotope separation. Isotope separation coefficients for the hydrophobic PTFE membranes without air in pores are higher than those for the membrane with air in pores.
The elution characteristics of rare earth elements in $NH^{4+}$ form cation exchange resin had been investigated. Elution were performed varing the loading amount, column diameter, column length and eluent pH. Analysing the chemical species contained in each effluent, elution mechanisms of rare earth elements and the separation of rare earth elements in monazite could be understood. The resolution values of adjacent rare earth elements were improved increasing rare earths adsorption amount wfith the same column within it's exchange capacity. With $NH^{4+}$ resin form, column length does not affect on the resolution values and retention time of rare earth elements and the rare earth-EDTA complex were not adsorbed on $NH^{4+}$ resin form. pH of eluent affected on the reactivities between rare earth elements and EDTA. Decreasing eluent pH, resolution values of adjacent rare earth elements were increased while increasing elution time.
Hydrogen isotopes can be categorized into light hydrogen, heavy hydrogen, and tritium based on the number of neutrons, each of which is used in specific fields. Specifically, deuterium is of interest in the electronics industry, nuclear energy industry, analytical technology industry, pharmaceutical industry, and telecommunications industry. Conventional methods such as cold distillation, thermal cycling absorption processes, Girdler sulfide processes, and water electrolysis have their own advantages and disadvantages, leading to the need for alternative technologies with high separation and energy efficiency. In this context, membrane-based hydrogen isotope separation is one of the promising solutions to reduce energy consumption. In this review, we will present the state-of-the-art in hydrogen isotope separation using membranes and their operating principles. The technology for separating hydrogen isotopes using membranes is just beginning to be conceptualized, and many challenges remain to be overcome. However, if achieved, the economic benefits are expected to be significant. We will discuss future research directions for this purpose.

This paper presents a quantitative method of sequential separation of $^{90}Sr,\;^{241}Am$ and Pu nuclides with an anion exchange resin and a Sr-Spec resin. The Pu isotopes were purified with an anion exchange resin. The americium and strontium fractions were separated from the matrix elements with an oxalate co-precipitation method. Americium fraction was separated from the strontium fraction with iron co-precipitation method and purified from lanthanides with anion exchange resin. Strontium-90 was purified from other hindrance elements with the Sr-Spec resin after oxalate co-precipitation. The measurement of Pu and Am isotopes was carried out by an ${\alpha}$-spectrometer. Strontium-90 was measured by a liquid scintillation counter. The radiochemical procedure of $^{90}Sr,\;^{241}Am$ and Pu nuclides investigated in this study has been validated by application to IAEA-Reference soils.
UV/VIS spectrophotometer interfaced with HPIC(High Performance Ion Chromatography) has been applied to the determination of lanthanide elements. The separation of lanthanide elements with HPIC helped to avoid erroneous analytical results due to interferences. Individual lanthanide elements at ppm level were separated on a HPIC CS5 column using pyromellitic acid and oxalic acid. The individual lanthanide elements were detected at 520nm following post-column reaction with PAR. Sm, Eu, Gd, Y, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Tb, and Lu were separated by pyromellitic acid. La, Ce, Pr and Nd were separated by oxalic acid. Appropriate pH of pyromellitic acid for separation was at pH 2.99.
