A Study on the Distribution Status of Nationalized Plants in Traditional Cultural Spaces in Seoul - Focused on 4 Ancient Palaces and Jongmyo Shrine - (서울시 전통문화공간의 귀화식물 분포현황 - 4대 고궁과 종묘를 중심으로 -)

  • This study aims to study the flora and identify the naturalized plants of the 4 ancient palace (Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, Changgyeonggung, Deoksugung) and Jongmyo Shrine, which are national cultural heritage and urban cultural centers in Seoul. The plants found consisted of 315 taxa in total, belonging to 82 families, 201 genera, 285 species, 1 subspecies and 29 varieties. The naturalized plants were shown as follows: in the Deoksugung Palace(33 taxa), the Jongmyo Shrine(14 taxa) and the Gyeongbok Palace(21 taxa) and the Changdeokgung Palace complex(11 taxa). The results of the analysis based on the place of origin showed a higher rate of distribution of species based in North America, Europe and Eurasia, with higher rates of grass than tree. In addition, except for Gyeongbokgung Palace, the annual rate is higher than the perennial rate. As a result of naturalization analysis, the percentage of naturalized plants corresponding to naturalization degree 3 and naturalization degree 5 was high. According to the moment of the invasion, the naturalized plants recently introduced were higher than the first species. In addition, it was found that the similarity between the sites was more than 40%, and the diversity of species of naturalized plants common to the five sites was very low. The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for cultural heritage landscaping and naturalized plant management.

Bacterial Diversity in the Initial Fermentation Stage of Korean and Chinese Kimchi (발효 초기 한국산 및 중국산 김치의 Bacteria 다양성 평가)

  • The purpose of this research is to draw the bacterial community difference between Korean and Chinese kimchi for future use in the confirmation of kimchi origin. Initial fermentation stage kimchi samples (above pH 5) were used for the analysis of bacterial diversity. From 26 Korean kimchi samples, 1,017 strains in the 45 genera and from 22 Chinese kimchi samples, 842 strains in the 54 genera were isolated with use of marine medium, nutrient medium, succinate minimal medium (SMM), leuconostocs selective medium (LUSM) agars. In the order of isolated numbers, Bacillus, Weissella, Leuconostoc, Pseudomonas, and Lactobacillus genera and Bacillus, Weissella, Lactobacillus, Pseudomonas, Serratia, and Enterobacter genera were predominated in Korean and Chines kimchi, respectively. Among the isolated lactic acid bacteria, Weissella spp. were isolated most dominantly owing to the biased growth of Weissella spp. on LUSM agar. Species in the genera Leuconostoc and Lactobacillus were the next frequently isolated LAB from Korean and Chinese kimchi, respectively. Weissella confusa was isolated only from Korean kimchi and W. soli and Serratia proteamculans were isolated only from Chinese kimchi. They have a possibility to be used as target bacteria to differentiate Korean kimchi from Chinese kimchi.

A Study of Optimal Conditions in Distillation for Production of Schisandra Chinensis Fruit Spirits (오미자 과실 증류주의 제조를 위한 증류 최적조건 연구)

  • This study is conducted to develop and optimize fruit spirits by using Schizandra chinensis fruit which are rarely used as spirits in the world. For this purpose, the raw material, main compounds of fermented mash and, quality characteristics of distilled liquor prepared with different distillation methods were analyzed. The studt period lasted six months and the results were follows. Schizandra chinensis was not suitable for alcohol fermentation because the sugar concentration and acidity were low. Therefore, the fermentation condition was appropriate to mix with the weight ratio of fresh Schizandra chinensis fruit, water and sugar as 1:1.5:0.25, and was fermented the mix by adding 0.06 w/w% of $(NH_4)_2HPO_4$ compared to the must total weight. It was also examined to analyze product characteristics of fruit spirits prepared with different methods of distillation(column-pot still, pot still, vacuum still). The result showed that fruit spirits made by vacuum still with fresh Schizandra chinensis fruit indicated the best product quality while the distillation of column-pot still showed the best yield.

Spreading and Distribution of Lactuca scariola, Invasive Alien Plant, by Habitat Types in Korea (침입외래식물 가시상추의 확산과 생육지 유형별 분포 특성)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the distribution and habitat types of prickly lettuce, Lactuca scariola of Europe origin for supplying the basic data of management plan. It showed fairly nation-wide distribution although excessive growth was rather limited in the wild. Its habitat types were divided into four types like open fields, roadsides, seashores and riversides. Species diversity examined by species rank-dominance curve tended to increase over riverside > seashores > open fields > roadsides. As a result of analyzing life form, therophytes were more than 50%, means that the habitats of L. scariola were disturbed by human activities etc. Urbanization Index was analyzed 9.1% in roadsides, 7.4% in seashores, 5.8% in open fields and riversides. It has high spread potential with a large number of wind-flying seed per plant. It was evaluated that prickly lettuce was mainly spread along the newly constructed road, expressway and invaded the original ecosystem in the cultivated land as weeds. But it has played a role as a pioneer species in open fields. It is recommended to remove where it has considerable impact on the native plant species of conservation value.

RAPD-SCAR Markers Linked to Medium-Leaf Zoysiagrass Ecotypes (한국잔디 중지 변이개체와 연관된 RAPD-SCAR 마커)

  • Two medium-leaf ecotypes (CY6069, CY6097) belonging to one species (Zoysia japonica) of Korean lawngrasses were selected in sod production fields in Jang Seong, Korea. They were reported to have distinct morphological and growth rate characteristics different from the preferred medium-leaf type zoysiagrass in Korea. This study was conducted to define further the genotypic difference at the molecular level and to develop DNA marker based on the specific DNA fragment. Polymorphic DNA fragments were first explored by using randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) primers, which were then converted into PCR-based sequence characterized amplified region (SCAR) markers. The CY6069-specific primer set amplified about 550 bp successfully, while the CY6097 marker produced the expected 690 bp band, by which those markers were nominated by CY6069_550 and CY6069_690 SCARs, respectively. Together with the reported morphological and other phenotypic features, the SCAR markers confirmed in this study will be useful to identify those medium-leaf zoysiagrass genotypes when they are cultivated with other vegetatively propagated warm-season turfgrasses in sod farms.

Monitoring of Sulfur Dioxide Residues in Commercial Herbal Medicines at Domestic by Geographical Origins (원산지별 국내 유통 한약재의 이산화황 잔류실태 조사)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the residual sulfur dioxide residues ($SO_2$) in commercial medicinal herbs in Korea in 2013. Among a total of 116 samples of 11 different kinds of herbs, 71 samples (11 Kinds) were domestic, and 45 samples (10 Kinds) were imported. The residual contents of $SO_2$ in the samples were determinated by a modified Monier-Williams method. Of the 116 samples, 6 samples (5.2%, 4 Kinds) failed to meet the regulations for sulfur dioxide residues of KFDA in medicinal herbs. Among 6 unsuitable samples, 1 samples (1.4%) were domestic, and 5 samples (11.1%, 3 Kinds) were imported. The highest amount of sulfur dioxide residues was 1546.3 mg/kg (Lycii Fructus) in the domestic samples. Regardless of region, $SO_2$ contents were not found at Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, Citri Unshius Pericarpium, Eucommiae Cortex, Forsythiae Fructus, Gardeniae Fructus, Leonuri Herba and Lonicerae Folium et caulis. These data will be used as a basic data for the future legislation on the regulation and control of sulfur dioxide of herbal medicines.

  • 2009년은 그야말로 새옹지마(塞翁之馬 : 인생에 있어서 길흉화복은 항상 바뀌어 미리 헤아릴 수 없다)와 같은 한 해로 기억에 오래 남을 듯 하다. 2008년 말에 2009년 양돈산업을 전망할 때 미국발 금융위기에도 불구하고 국내산 돈육 공급량 부족과 환율상승 및 급변으로 인한 돈육 수입량 부족, 그리고 수급 불균형으로 대부분의 전문가들이 역대 최고의 돈가를 예상했고, 실제로 3월에 지육가격이 5,000원/지육kg(전국 비육돈 평균시세)을 상회하면서 성수기에 돈가가 6,000원/지육 kg에 육박할 것이라 기대했었다. 그러나 4월 미국에서 발생한 신종인플루엔자가 초기에 돼지에서 유래된 인플루엔자라고 보도되면서 돈육소비량이 급감하였고 이로 인해 성수기에 돈가가 오히려 하락하는 기현상을 보였다. 다행히 신종플루가 돼지와 무관하다는 사실이 밝혀지면서 소비가 회복되었고 돈가 또한 회복되어 올해는 역대 최고의 돈가가 형성될 것으로 예상되고, 여기에 국제곡물시세가 안정되면서 사료가격도 여러 차례 인하되어 양돈 농장의 수익성은 상당부분 향상될 것으로 판단된다. 하지만 신종플루 사망자가 증가하면서 지금도 여전히 돈육소비가 위축되어 있어 막연히 호황을 기대하기 쉽지 않은 실정이다. 돈가의 급등과 급락, 외부요인에 의한 경제환경의 변화로 인한 환율의 변동 및 소비량의 변화는 2009년 양돈산업에 대한 불안감을 증폭시켜 높은 돈가와 수익성에도 불구하고 전체 산업의 규모가 커지지는 못했다. 여기에 국산 돈육에 대한 소비자들의 무한 신뢰로 인해, 2008년 12월 돈육 원산지 표시제 확대 실시로 국내산 돈육 수요가 증가 하여 여전히 75% 가량의 국산 돈육 자급율을 유지함에도 불구하고 아직까지 맛의 차별화 및 도축, 유통의 안전성에 대한 확고한 신뢰 구축을 위한 브랜드 돈육 유통의 확대가 소비자의 기대치만큼 자리 잡지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 또한 친환경적인 양돈산업 육성 및 분뇨 처리 관련하여도 뚜렷한 해답을 찾지 못하고 있어, 양돈 농가의 입장에서는 규모의 확장 및 신규 진입이 극도로 제한되어 있고 일부 지역에서는 사업의 존폐를 결정하는 주요 원인이 되고 있다. 그간 대한민국 양돈 산업의 경쟁력에 발목을 잡고 있던 낮은 생산성 문제와 소모성 질병에 의한 높은 폐사율 문제 또한 아직도 여전히 해결되지 못한 과제이다. <그림 1> 국가별 양돈 농장 생산성 현황에서 보는 바 와 우리나라 양돈 농장의 생산성은 여전히 PSY(모돈당 연간 이유자돈 두수)가 18두에 못 미치고 있어 국제 경쟁력을 논하기 자제 가 부끄러운 실정이다. 여러 가지 내 외부적인 어려운 환경에도 불구하고 올 2009년은 양돈농가들이 최고의 수익성을 기록한 한 해가 될 것이라는 사실에는 이의가 별로 없을 듯하다. 2년 여간의 고돈가로 인해 대한민국 양돈산업은 새로운 도약을 위한 밑천이 마련된 셈이라고 할 수 있다. 본고에서는 2009년 양돈산업 현황을 돌아보고 다가올 미래를 준비한다는 의미에서 우리나라 양돈산업이 집중해야 할 분야를 짚어보고자 한다.

Physicochemical and Sensory Properties of Commercial Salt-Fermented Shrimp (시판새우젓 종류별 이화학적ㆍ관능적 특성)

  • We evaluated physicochemical and sensory characteristics of 25 commercial salt-fermented shrimps by kind (Oh Jeot, Yook Jeot and Chu Jeot) by manufacturer (traditional marketer (TS) & company (CS)). Salinity and pH ranged 17.9∼28.7% and 7.82∼8.74, respectively, of which Chu Jeot was somewhat higher in salinity and pH, compared with those of the others. Amino nitrogen (AN), volatile basic nitrogen (VBN) and thiobarbituric acid reactive subjects (TBARS) showed great variation ranged with 21.41∼661.13 mg%, 263.2∼1180.2 mg% and 0.507∼1.322 $\mu\textrm{g}$/g, respectively. Hunter color of L value was 53.99∼67.45, a value, 4.98∼12.06 and b value, 4.45∼10.4. Physicochemical quality showed greater variations in Chu Jeot of TS than that of CS. Products of CS have higher salinity while lower VBN and AN than those of TS. Sensory results showed that mean scores of appearance, over-all taste, over-all flavor and over-all acceptability between TS and CS were not significantly different. The mean score of over-all acceptance was the highest in Yook Jeot. Physicochemical and sensory characteristics of salt-fermented shrimps in a PCA plot comprised of first principal component (68.36%) and second principal component (31.36%).

A Study on the Effects of Livestock Disease News on the Purchase of Beef and Pork (축산 질병 보도가 소, 돼지고기 구입에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • This study examined the effects of livestock disease news, such as foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), collected by the Korea Press Foundation on BIGKinds on the consumption of beef and pork. The consumer purchase data were obtained from the Rural Development Administration's Agrifood consumer panel data. Survival analysis showed that the FMD news noted beef and pork, and the first purchase rate decreased due to FMD news. The time-dependent Cox proportional hazards model revealed all models to be significant. FMD news was significant in each model. In 2010, the Hazard Ratio of domestic and imported pork was 0.999, and the first purchase rate decreased 0.999 times for each additional FMD news item. On the other hand, the Hazard Ratio of pork in 2015 was 1.001, and the first purchase rate increased. In the case of beef, results similar to pork were shown. This study estimated the impact of consumer meat consumption disease news on the first purchases according to origin and meat. These results provide the necessary information for rational production and consumption activities. In addition, it can also be used for promotion by estimating the duration of livestock disease news.

Analysis of Consumer Behavior toward and Preferences for Prunus mume (Maesil), the Chinese Plum (매실에 대한 소비자 선호 및 소비행태분석)

  • We sought to define the main motivational factors promoting consumption of Prunus mume products. We surveyed both specialized high-volume consumers and public consumers, and focused on consumption of and preferences for Prunus mume and Prunus mume products. We investigated how products were preferentially consumed, purchase experience, purchase location, purchase price, consumption experience, factors important in a purchase decision, preference factors, dissatisfaction factors, consumption outlook, comments on new processed foods, and activation of consumption. A total of 534 responses were received and data were analyzed using the SAS program (Version 9.1) of the Frequency test; Chi-square test was used to detect significant factors. A greater percentage of high-volume(compared with low-volume) consumers processed personal products at home. The public consumer tended to buy commercial products. However, public consumers who were older, who had higher incomes, and who were heads of households, tended to both buy commercial products and to prepare foods at home. The common purchase methods used by high-volume consumers were internet and direct marketing, but the public consumer frequented department stores and hypermarkets. High-volume consumers observed that commercial products were expensive, and such consumers seemed to be particularly cost-sensitive. The decisive factor triggering purchase decisions in high-volume consumers was the geographical origin of the fruit, whereas the public consumer was more concerned with taste. In public, positive factors were that the product was good for health and had a pleasant taste. Some of those surveyed complained of a lack of variety in Prunus mume products and that the amount of Prunus mume in certain products was low. To promote and increase consumption, convenient-to-eat products with healthy images are needed.
