  • Urban trees play an important role in absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, improving air quality, mitigating the urban heat island effect, and providing ecosystem services. To effectively manage and conserve urban trees, accurate spatial information on their location, condition, species, and population is needed. In this study, we propose an algorithm that uses a high-resolution urban tree cover map constructed from deep learning approach to separate trees from the urban land surface and accurately detect tree locations through local maximum filtering. Instead of using a uniform filter size, we improved the tree detection performance by selecting the appropriate filter size according to the tree height in consideration of various urban growth environments. The research output, the location and height of individual trees in human settlement over Suwon, will serve as a basis for sustainable management of urban ecosystems and carbon reduction measures.

  • The scope of IoT use has expanded due to the development of related technologies, and various sensors have been developed and distributed to meet the demand for implementing various services. Measuring alcohol concentration using a sensor can be used to prevent drunk driving, and to make this possible, accurate alcohol concentration must be measured and safe transmission from the smartphone to the server must be guaranteed. Additionally, a process of converting the measured alcohol concentration value into a standard value for determining the level of drinking is necessary. In this paper, we propose and implement a system. Security with remote servers applies SSL at the network layer to ensure data integrity and confidentiality, and the server encrypts the received information and stores it in the database to provide additional security. As a result of analyzing the accuracy of alcohol concentration measurement and communication efficiency, it was confirmed that the measurement and transmission were within the error tolerance.

  • We proposed and verified the methods to maintain data qualities as well as to reduce data volume for the Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI), the world's first ocean color sensor operated in geostationary orbit. For the GOCI level-2 data, 92.9% of data volume could be saved by only the data compression. For the GOCI level-1 data, however, just 20.7% of data volume could be saved by the data compression therefore another approach was required. First, we found the optimized number of bits per a pixel for the GOCI level-1 data from an idea that the quantization bit for the GOCI (i.e. 12 bit) was less than the number of bits per a pixel for the GOCI level-1 data (i.e. 32 bit). Experiments were conducted using the $R^2$ and the Modulation Transfer Function (MTF). It was quantitatively revealed that the data qualities were maintained although the number of bits per a pixel was reduced to 14. Also, we performed network simulations using the Network Simulator 2 (Ns2). The result showed that 57.7% of the end-toend delay for a GOCI level-1 data was saved when the number of bits per a pixel was reduced to 14 and 92.5% of the end-to-end delay for a GOCI level-2 data was saved when 92.9% of the data size was reduced due to the compression.

  • Using switches and sensors informing the current on or off state, this paper suggests a sleeping control and remote monitoring system that not only can recognize the sleeping situations but also can control for keeping an appropriate sleeping situation remotely, And we show an example that this system is applied to the healthcare sleeping mat, Our system comprises the following 3 parts: a part for detecting the sleeping situations, a part for extracting sensing data and sending/receiving the relating situated data, and a part controlling and monitoring the all of sleeping situations. In details, in order to develop our system, we used the touch and pressure-sensitive sensors with On/Off functions for a purpose of the first part, The second part consists of the self-developed embedded board with the socket based communication as well as extracting real-time sensing data. And the third part is implemented by service modules for providing controlling and monitoring functions previously described. Finally, these service modules are implemented by the TMO scheme, one of real-time object-oriented programming models and the communications among them is supported using the TMOSM of distributed real-time middleware.

  • Recently, with the rapid increase in technology and users of smart devices, the smart watch market has grown, and its utility and usability are continuously expanding. The strengths of smartwatches are wearable portability, application immediacy, data diversity and real-time capability. Despite these strengths, smartwatches have limitations such as battery limitations, display and user interface size limitations, and memory limitations. In addition, there is a need to supplement developers and standard devices, operating system standard models, and killer application modules. In particular, monitoring and application of user's biometric information is becoming a major service for smart watches. The biometric information of such a smart watch generates a large amount of data in real time. In order to advance the biometric information service, stable peer-to-peer transmission of sensing data to a remote smartphone or local server storage must be performed. We propose a synchronization method to ensure wireless remote peer-to-peer transmission stability in a smart watch system. We design a wireless peer-to-peer transmission process based on this synchronization method, analyze asynchronous transmission process and proposed synchronous transmission process, and propose a transmission efficiency method according to an increase in transmission amount.
