  • 전조등의 밝기 변동에 대한 운전자의 시인성 및 뇌파측정, 심리평가를 행하고 이를 바탕으로 전조등 밝기변화의 한계값과 운전자의 안전성을 고려한 평가 알고리즘을 개발하였다. 전조등의 밝기 변화 한계치는 심리평가의 설문지 작성을 통한 주관적 평가를 바탕으로 밝기 변화, 눈 깜박임, 불쾌감 등에 대한 한계값을 제시하였다. 그리고 뇌파측정을 바탕으로 정신적, 시각적 스트레스에 대한 한계값을 제시하였으며, 운전자의 시인성 측정을 바탕으로 차량을 장애물의 위협 없이 안전하게 정지하기 위한 한계값을 제시하였다. 안전성 평가 알고리즘은 장애물을 인식하고 브레이크 페달을 밟기 시작하기 까지 최대한 허용할 수 있는 시간인, 여유 시간 이내에 전압변동을 완료하고 최초의 정상 전압으로 복귀하는 경우와 그렇지 않은 경우를 적용할 수 있는 2종류의 알고리즘을 개발하였다.

A Study on Driver's Psychological Responses to VMS Traffic Information Using Driving Simulator (가상주행 실험을 통한 VMS 교통정보의 이용자 심리적 반응에 관한 연구)

  • The variable message sign(VMS) is a representative traffic information service medium which has the largest users and is provided and operated by a governmental agency. In this paper, we focused on psychological responses of individuals who use VMS traffic information in the light of the need for VMS to provide user-oriented service. A total of t재 scenarios were plotted to conduct our experiment on a virtual test track. A stress index analysis on VMS location, the first scenario, showed the lowest stress value at the point of 1.5 kilometers before the exit. A stress index analysis on the contents of VMS information (communication, time, and speed), the second scenario, showed the lowest stress value at time information.

The Analysis of Driving Workload and Gamma Waves on Curved Sections in Expressway (고속도로 커브구간에서 운전자의 운전부하와 감마파 특성분석에 관한 연구)

  • Previous studies show that driver mental workload plays a significant role in the occurrence of traffic accidents. This study also analyzes driving workload under different road conditions especially with the brain wave data collected by a driving simulator. We use a logistic regression model to explain the relationship between driving workload and gamma brain waves. The results show that beta band of brain waves becomes broader with more curved sections while alpha band and gamma band become narrower. Since driving workload is negatively correlated with gamma band, it can be concluded that driving condition with less curved section is beneficial for reducing driving stress and increasing driving comfort.

  • We examined previous studies of the correlation analysis of heart rate variability as a method to reduce the stress caused by outside noise during driving, and we investigated whether there are electrocardiographic changes when drivers play music, which provides a stable sound source amid the noise. Because the number of cars increases every year, drivers and passengers show an increase in stress caused by outside noise. The stress from outside noise while a person is driving can cause several disorders, such as anxiety, immunosuppression, depression, and heart disease. Subjects in this study operated a vehicle simulator to reduce the stress from outside noise and were given different auditory stimuli, and we studied the drivers' responses to the stimuli. Repeated-measures analysis of variance revealed a significant differences between subjects exposed to different auditory stimuli (ρ < 0.05). Through post hoc analyses, we examined these differences. We found significant differences between factor 1 (stability) and factor 2 (simulation driving), between factor 1 (stability) and factor 3 (driving + police siren), and between factor 1 (stability) and factor 4 (driving + police siren + music). In addition, the factor that produced the highest level of sympathetic nervous system activity was factor 4 (driving + police siren + music), followed by factor 3 (driving + police siren), factor 2 (driving), and factor 1 (stability). In conclusion, even when a police siren was heard during driving, there were no significant differences on electrocardiograms (ECGs). In addition, even when the siren was heard over the music, there was no difference on the ECGs (ρ < 0.01). In future studies, investigators should determine which types of music help stabilize the heart rate during driving.

A Study on Psychological Responses and Evaluation of Degree of Satisfaction for Drivers to Traffic Informations Using Driving Simulator (차량시뮬레이터를 이용한 교통정보제공 유형에 따른 이용자 심리적 반응 및 만족도 평가에 관한 연구)

  • At present, the characteristics of drivers are not properly considered when informations are provided via VMS even though the Variable Message Signs(VMS) are one of the key information provision medias on the roads. In this study, the driver's psychological response(stress index) was evaluated using a driving simulator for the position of the VMS provided, the contents of the VMS provided, the size of characters on VMS, and types of VMS expression. It was appeared that the stress is the least when the position of the VMS provided 1.5km proceeded from exit, the contents of the VMS provided are time information and types of VMS expression are character form respectively and the size of characters on VMS is appeared not important. In addition, the change of the users' satisfaction level was measured when increasing the numbers of VMS on unit distance and the size of characters. The size of character was almost not effected in similar to the result of stress index and the satisfaction level increased when increasing the number of VMS on the unit distance. The results of this research can be utilized as basic data for the ITS system design and operation stages.

  • Recent Automotive technology is driven from mechanical device to the electronic components which improve the vehicle's safety and convenience. The future competitiveness of the car will come from safety issues and energy efficiency, convenience and the application of the technologies. In this study, various techniques for driver drowsiness detection are introduced and compared with each others. The advantages and disadvantages of commercially available technologies and developed technologies are compared. To enhance the detection resolution, multiple sensing technologies are introduced in this paper. The feasibility of two drowsiness detection methods, that is, existing camera image recognition method and bio signal analysis method, are tested. The direct drowsiness detection by the camera image of eyes and driver's vital signs detected indirectly are combined and analyzed by the developed noble algorithm for stress, fatigue, drowsiness detection with a more accurate high-drowsiness detection.

  • 본 논문의 목적은 우리들의 현실적 노면표지 형태가 그 강도, 종류 및 출현빈도 측면에서 드러내는 지속적 증대 내지 강화 경향성을 문제점으로 제기하면서, 이런 노면표지 형태와 운전행동 간의 관련성에 대한 심리학적 제반 이론들을 고찰해보고 아울러 여기서 상호 연관적 특성을 밝혀주는 하나의 적절한 모델을 개발해보고자 하는 데에 두었다 이 모델에서는 운전자의 사고예방이나 안전운행이 곡 필요한 수준의 노면표지 자극화(stimulation)를 통해 조성된 쾌적한 교통환경에서 보다 용이하게 가능하다는 점이 전제되고 있다. 우리가 인간행동을 총체적으로나 효과적으로 분석하는 데 있어서는 일반심리적이거나 행동주의적 제반 이론 관점이 다소 미흡하다는 점이 지적되었다. 반면에 보다 거시적이고 종합적인 통찰에 중점을 두고있는 형태주의 심리학이나 장 이론적 시각은 행동분석 시에 비교적 결실적인 것으로 밝혀졌다 노면표지 자극의 양상여하가 운전자에게 스트레스, 정보과부담, 과도한 심리적 각성상태 등으로 인해 부정적인 영향을 미친다는 점에서는 이런 문제점이 환경심리학적 고찰측면에서도 관심의 대상이 되고 있다. \"노면표지 조성화 양 관점 모델\"에서 시사되고 는 터이지만. 이 모델에서의 노면표지 형태가 이론적인 면에서 \"정서-인지적\" 인간관에 근거를 두고있어 궁극적으로 이것이 옳다면, 그것은 곡 필요한 최소한의 수준에 머물러야 한다는 것이다. 올바른 운전행동, 다시 말해 교통법규 준수 행동은 노면표지 양상 측면의 각종 자극적 강화대책보다도 오히려 실효성 있는 교통교육, 확실한 적발 단속과 엄중한 처벌대책에 상대적으로 훨씬 더 큰 비중을 두고있는, 바로 그런 운전자의 의식개혁을 통해 비로소 제대로 정착될 수 있기 때문이다. 이 모델의 타당성 여부는 후속적 실증연구를 통해 해명되어질 수 있을 것이다.

Psychological Literature on Driving Behavior to Review the Studies of Traffic Psychology since 2004 in Korea (교통행동 연구의 경향성 분석을 위한 문헌고찰 - 2004년 이후 한국교통심리학의 연구경향분석)

  • This study analysed the published papers dealing with traffic behaviors since 2004 in south Korea. The following information was coded for each papers; year of publication, source, authors, main topic, and subtopic. The annual numbers of publication in 2004 and 2005 showed 6 articles and 7 articles. Since 2006, The annual numbers were increasing more than 10 papers. It means that the researches on traffic behavior were rich. The driver was main topic of 73.2% of articles. Cognition & Perception, Fatigue and Stress, and Alcohol were the main interest sub-topics dealing with main topic driver. Elderly driver was 10.4%, the interest in elderly drivers grew with population aging. And the dominant publications were Journal of traffic safety research, Journal of Korean Psychology Association, and Journal of the Koean Data Analysis Society with 60% of all articles for last 10 years.

  • As the number of automobile registrations increases and luxury expectations grow, consumers are increasingly interested in indoor environment of vehicles. Therefore, manufacturers have an increasing interest in improving the indoor comfort as well as automobile performance. Research on indoor automobile comfort can help manufacturers increase driver satisfaction and reduce driver stress and discomfort, thereby reducing the risk of traffic accidents. Using electroencephalogram (EEG) measurements, we investigated the change in comfort and comfortable temperature according to the ventilating seat temperature change for both men and women. Results showed that the sensation of comfort was statistically significantly higher at 25℃ than at 28℃. Secondly, there was no statistically significant difference in temperature-based comfort feeling between male and female subjects. In the future, if the correlation between the driver's comfort feeling and the change in ventilating seat temperature is analyzed, it is possible to reduce traffic accidents caused by human error and reduce the electric energy consumption of the automobile.

A Study on the Development of a Structural Equation Model between the Driver's Negative Emotion and Driving Behavior Based on Emotion Regulation Strategies (정서조절 방략을 반영한 운전자의 부정적 정서와 운전행동 간의 구조모형 개발에 관한 연구)

  • Many a number of policies have been tried to reduce auto accidents so far, but it is obvious that further studies are still needed to find a more fundamental and multi-dimensional preventive measure with effect. The National Mental Health Statistics shows that the most profound forms of negative emotions, that is, depression and anxiety, have been increasing, but studies on such a topic are scarce to find. Therefore, we conducted a structural analysis between the negative emotions, including depression and anxiety, of drivers and their driving behaviors using a Structural Equation Modeling(SEM) technique. The review of past literature and studies indicated that not all of human emotions manifest themselves as the ultimate behaviors because they go through emotion regulation Strategies. For this reason, the purpose of this study was set to analyze the structural model developed in this study reflecting the emotion regulation strategies. The result of our analysis showed that the driver's negative emotion had a more significant influence on dangerous driving behaviors than safe ones, and especially, the expressive suppression strategy was found to be the highest factor. Also, the total effect analysis with the negative emotional factors showed that expressive suppression had more significant influence compared to that of cognitive reappraisal. The implication of this study might provide a better understanding on driving behaviors of the drivers and could be used as a fundamental study for future policy development to reduce traffic accidents.
