  • Supercritical fluid processes have gained great attention as a new and environmentally-benign method of preparing the microparticles of energetic materials like explosives and propellants. In this work, RDX (cyclotrimethylenetrinitramine) was selected as a target explosive. The microparticle formation of RDX using supercritical anti-solvent (SAS) recrystallization process was performed and the effect of operating variables on the size and morphology of prepared particles was observed. N,N-Dimethylformamide was used as organic solvent for dissolving the RDX. The size of the RDX particles decreased remarkably up to less than $10\;{\mu}m$ by SAS recrystallization. In the range of operating conditions of the SAS process studied in this work, the finest RDX particles were obtained at 313.15K, 150 bar, and 15wt% RDX concentration in feed solution.

  • Various technical methods are applied for removing water from the water-retaining media, and the energy efficiency is the main concern in those methods. The electroosmotic process is studied as an efficient way for dewatering. An experimental electroosmotic reactor is designed and used for evaluating the effects of operational variables. The operational variables such as the electrical fields and the structure of water-retaining medias were studied. Three different shapes of polarized electric fields in ranges of 0-100 V/cm and 0-10 kHz are used as the source of electric voltage. The effect of electroosmotic process with respect to the structural variation is estimated by filling the electroosmotic reactor with the glass beads in 0.18 mm, 0.35 mm and 1.2 mm in diameters. 6% of water removal is obtained in the simulating electroosmotic reactor of glass beads. The estimated energy consumption in the simulating electroosmotic was 330~490 cal/g-water.

  • Although a lot of research and development has been conducted on the performance improvement of PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) water electrolysis, the research on durability is still in early stage. This study investigated effect of temperature on the water electrolysis durability when driving temperature of the PEM water electrolysis was increased to improve performance. Voltage change, I-V, CV (Cyclic Voltammetry), LSV (Linear Sweep Voltammetry), Impedance, and FER (Fluoride Emission Rate) were measured while driving under a constant current condition in a temperature range of 50~80 ℃. As the operating temperature increased, the degradation rate increased. At 50~65 ℃, the degradation of the IrO2 electrocatalyst mainly affected the durability of the PEM water electrolysis cell. At 80 ℃, the polymer membrane and electrode degradation proceeded similarly, and the short resistance decreased to 1.0 kΩ·cm2 or less, and the performance decreased to about 1/3 of the initial stage after 144 hours of operation due to the shorting phenomenon.

  • Domestic water supply and sewage facilities are rapidly aging and maintenance difficulties such as aging of operation and management personnel are overlapping, so Digital Twin technology is attracting attention as an intelligent means of process management. Digital twin projects for domestic water treatment processes include the smart sewage treatment project promoted by the Ministry of Environment, projects independently promoted by some local governments, and digital twin purification plant projects promoted by K-water. However, the content of digital twin promotion is different for each institution. Therefore, in the water treatment process, technological standardization and step-by-step implementation methods for digital twins must be preceded to reduce trial and error in future business promotion. This study aims to provide an efficient promotion plan by prescribing the digital twin element technology and composition method in the water treatment process and reviewing the contents currently being promoted by the Ministry of Environment, local governments, and K-Water individually.

  • Various methods for removing by-products from chemical reactions are being studied to improve yield of catalytic reaction. Since the water is predominantly generated as a by-product in industrially significant reactions, it is necessary to develop the technology that can reliably remove water over a wide range of temperatures. Although several strategies using absorbents and additional dehydration reactions, have been proposed, they have limitations due to the issues such as additional energy and time consuming steps and sustainability of conversion. Membrane technology, which offers advantages such as easy operation, installation, and low maintenance costs, proves to be a promising approach for enhancing the efficiency of catalysts in various catalytic reactions. Therefore, this review discusses the removal of by-products using membranes and the associated benefits in this context.

  • In this study, the alternative to the energy-intensive conventional vacuum distillation process, an eco-friendly and energy-efficient pervaporation separation was employed in 1,2 hexane diol/water (HDO/water) mixture. The crosslinked PVA-glutaraldehyde was coated inside the alumina hollow fiber membrane (Al-HF). In the HDO/IPA pervaporation separation, optimization of the membrane concerning PVA/GA ratio, curing temperature, and pervaporation operating condition were performed. In the long-term stability test, the sustainable pervaporation separation performance giving flux in the range of 1.90~2.16 kg/m2h, and water content in permeate was higher than 99.5% (separation factor = 68) was obtained from the PVA/GA (molar ratio = 0.08, curing temperature = 80℃) coated Al-HF membrane from HDO/water (25/75, w/w, %) mixture at 40℃. Therefore, this work provides potential and inspiration for PVA-based membranes to mitigate excessive energy requirements in HDO/water separation by pervaporation.

  • The scope of IoT use has expanded due to the development of related technologies, and various sensors have been developed and distributed to meet the demand for implementing various services. Measuring alcohol concentration using a sensor can be used to prevent drunk driving, and to make this possible, accurate alcohol concentration must be measured and safe transmission from the smartphone to the server must be guaranteed. Additionally, a process of converting the measured alcohol concentration value into a standard value for determining the level of drinking is necessary. In this paper, we propose and implement a system. Security with remote servers applies SSL at the network layer to ensure data integrity and confidentiality, and the server encrypts the received information and stores it in the database to provide additional security. As a result of analyzing the accuracy of alcohol concentration measurement and communication efficiency, it was confirmed that the measurement and transmission were within the error tolerance.

  • Statistical and probabilistic method was used in the analysis of data, which is the most effective one in describing the various natures, and the methodology relating the results with the design was developed. Influents and effluents of three treatment plants were analyzed and the focus was made on BOD, COD, SS, IN, TP The fluctuations of influent such as BOD, COD, SS were extremely large and their standard deviations(st.dev) were more than 10 mg/L. but those of TN, TP were small; the st.dev was 6.6 mg/L for TN, 0.6 mg/L for TP, respectively. But, effluent concentration showed consistent pattern regardless of the influent fluctuations, the st.dev was ranged between 0.28 and 4.48 mg/L. Effluent distributional characteristics were as follows; BOD, COD were distributed normally, but SS, TN, and TP, log-normally; unsymmetric and skewed to the right. The coefficient of reliability(COR) based on the results of statistics of data was introduced to evaluate the process performance an4 to reflect the process performance to the process design. The coefficient of reliability relates the design value(the goal) with the standards and it can be used in operating treatment facilities under a certain reliability level and/or in evaluating the reliability of the treatment facilities on operation. Each treated water quality of effluent showed the half of water quality standards in the level of 50% percentile and all treatment plant was achieved 100% probability of water quality standards. It was concluded that the variability of the process performance should be reflected to the design procedure and the standards through the analysis based on the statistics and the probability.

  • Domestic or international existing researches regarding rail damage factors are focused on laying, vehicle conditions, driving speed and driving habits and overlook characteristics of track structure (elasticity, maintenance etc). Also in ballast track, as there is no special lateral spring stiffness of track also called as ballast lateral resistance in concrete track, generally, existing study shows concrete track has 2 time shorter life cycle for rail replacement than ballast track due to abrasion. As a result of domestic concrete track design and operation performance review, concrete track elasticity is lower than track elasticity of ballast track resulting higher damage on rail and tracks. Generally, concrete track has advantage in track elasticity adjustment than ballast track and in case of Europe, in concrete track design, it is recommended to have same or higher performance range of vertical elastic stiffness of ballast track but domestically or internationally review on lateral spring stiffness of track is very minimal. Therefore, through analysis of service line track on site measurement and analysis on performance of maintenance, in this research, dynamic characteristic behaviors of commonly used ballast and concrete track are studied to infer elasticity of service line track and experimentally prove effects of track lateral spring stiffness that influence curved rail damage as well as correlation between track elasticity by track system and rail damage to propose importance of appropriate elastic stiffness level for concrete and ballast track.
