Study subjects were 20 women university taekwondo athletes. Athletic career and competition participation frequency was assessed by 4-points scale and the higher points indicate the higher level of each variables. Exercise commitment was assessed by Exercise Commitment Scale. The assessment consists of a total of 8 questions, 4 of which are action immersion and 4 of cognitive immersion, and is evaluated using a 5-point Likert scale. The higher the score, the higher the level of exercise commitment. As the results, positive relationship showed both correlation and casual relationship analysis between competition participation frequency and exercise commitment. Negative casual relationship (-) showed between athletic career and exercise commitment. These results indicated that the increase of competition participation frequency affects the exercise commitment and the longer of athletic career indicates the decrease the level of exercise commitment. Thus, to improve the exercise commitment of women university taekwondo athletes, the competition participation frequency and athletic career should be considered.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of the Sport Talent Development Environment on the Achievement Goal in Sport of college athletes. The Sport Talent Development Environment (Martindale et al., 2010) had seven factors, but only four factors (long-term development, lack of quality preparation, communication, lack of understanding) were used after exploratory factor analysis. The Achievement Goals in Sport (Wang et al., 2007) was composed of four factors (mastery approach, mastery avoidance, performance mastery, performance avoidance). The results showed that 1)long-term development factor and communication factor of male athletes were significantly higher than female athletes while lack of understanding factor of female athletes were significantly higher than male athletes, 2)mastery avoidance factor of female athletes was significantly higher than male athletes, and 3)factors of development environment accounted for 27.8% to 34.5%-male athletes and for 13.2% to 22.7%-female athletes variance in the four achievement goals. Therefore, it is important for coaches and sport administrators to take these results into consideration when designing an effective talent development program.

  • Purpose: To evaluate the ultrasonographic (US) findings in both shoulders of asymptomatic high school overhead athletes and compare with healthy control. Materials and Methods: 33 individuals (age: $17.5{\pm}1.4$ years) participated in this study. We recruited two groups of high school male athletes, 13 baseball and 10 volleyball players without shoulder pain for recent 6 months as well as one control group of 10 untrained healthy high school students who were age-matched. Ultrasound measurements of thickness of biceps and supraspinatus tendon and acromio-humral distance (AHD) at 0o abduction were taken in dominant and nondominant shoulders. Results: On US examination, subacromial bursa effusion was observed in 5 of the dominant shoulders and in 1 of the nondominant shoulder of 23 overhead athletes and in none of the asymptomatic controls. The thickness of the biceps and supraspinatus tendons and AHD in both shoulders were significantly greater in the athletes than in the controls (P<0.05). We also found that the thickness of the biceps and supraspinatus tendon and AHD of the dominant shoulder were significantly greater than the non-dominant shoulder in overhead athletes (P<0.05), but there were no differences between baseball and volleyball players. Conclusion: Subacromial effusion could be found even in the asymptomatic stage overhead athlete and the thickness of the biceps and supraspinatus tendons and AHD were significantly greater in the overhead athletes than in the healthy controls. Our data is useful reference guide for the ultrasonographic diagnosis of shoulder pathologies occurring in overhead athletes.
