Evaluation of Granite Melting Technique for Deep Borehole Sealing (심부시추공 밀봉을 위한 화강암 용융거동 평가)

  • The granite melting concept, which was suggested by Gibb's group for the closing of a deep borehole, was experimentally checked for KURT granite. The granite melting experiments were performed in two pressure conditions of atmospheric melting with certain inorganic additives and high pressure melting formed by water vaporization. The results of atmospheric tests showed that KURT granite started to melt at a lower temperature of $1,000^{\circ}C$ with NaOH addition and that needle shaped crystals were formed around partially melted crystals. In high pressure tests, vapor pressure was increased by adding water with maximum pressure of about 400 bars. KURT granite was partially melted at $1,000^{\circ}C$ when vapor pressure was low. However, it was not melted at vapor pressures higher than 200 bars. Therefore, it was determined that high pressure with a small amount of water vapor more effectively decreased the melting point of granite. Meanwhile, high temperature and high pressure vapor caused severe corrosion of the reactor wall.

Melting Characteristics for Radioactive Aluminum Wastes in Electric Arc Furnace (아크 용융로에서 방사성 알루미늄 폐기물의 용융특성)

  • The characteristics of the aluminum waste melting and the distribution of the radioactive nuclides have been investigated for the estimation on the volume reduction and the decontamination of the aluminum wastes from the decommissioning of the TRIGA MARK it and III research reactors at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute(KAERI). The aluminum wastes were melted with the use of the fluxes such as flux $A:NaCl-KCl-Na_3AlF_6$, flux B:NaCl-NaF-KF, flux $C:CaF_2$, and flux $D:LiF-KCl-BaCl_2$ in the DC graphite arc furnace. For the assessment of the distribution of the radioactive nuclides during the melting of the aluminum, the aluminum materials were contaminated by the surrogate nuclides such as cobalt(Co), cesium(Cs) and strontium(Sr). The fluidity of aluminum melt was increased with the addition of the fluxes, which has slight difference according to the type of fluxes. The formation of the slag during the aluminum melting added the flux type C and D was larger than that with the flux A and B. The rate of the slag formation linearly increased with increasing the flux concentration. The results of the XRD analysis showed that the surrogate nuclide was transferred to the slag, which can be easily separated from the melt and then they combined with aluminum oxide to form a more stable compound. The distribution ratio of cobalt in ingot to that in slag was more than 40% at all types of fluxes. Since vapor pressures of cesium and strontium were higher than those that of the host metals at the melting temperature, their removal efficiency from the ingot phase to the slag and the dust phase was by up to 98%.

  • Electrospinning has gained interests as a polymer processing technique for nanofiber fabrications. It is well known that both polymer solutions and polymer melts can be electrospun. Among them, melt electrospinning is environmentally friendly technique due to the absence of solvent. However, the diameter of melt-electrospun fibers is typically thicker than solution-electrospun fibers. By using a home-made melt-electrospinning device, micron-sized fibers with smooth and even surfaces were electrospun successfully. We demonstrate that low-density polyethylene fibers can be reduced in diameter with a viscosity-reducing additive such as low molecular weight polyethylene monoalcohol and polyethylene wax. The diameter was further reduced by blending it with oxidized polyethylene wax due to polarity increment. Additionally, parameters affecting the diameter were analyzed such as an applied voltage and a spinning distance.

  • 항균성 및 원적외선 방사량이 높은 원적외선 방사 항균 글라스 및 글라스 세라믹스의 양산화를 위한 유리 용융에 있어 대량용융의 가능성을 확인할 수 있었으며, 열처리온도는 5Li₂Oㆍ36CaOㆍ20TiO₂ㆍ27P₂O/sub 5/와 1Ag₂Oㆍ4Li₂Oㆍ36CaOㆍ20TiO₂ㆍ27P₂O/sub 5/ 조성에서 최적핵형성온도가 620℃, 최적결정성장온도가 각각 78℃, 800℃였다. 원가절감을 위산 건식법과 습식법의 결정상분석의 결과 피크의 차이는 거의 없었다. 이온교환의 경우 5.0mol AgNO₃수용액에 담지한 시편에서는 많은 LTP 결정상이 AgTP 결정상으로 변환되기 시작하여 1.0omol 농도의 AgNO₃ 수용액에서는 결정상의 주피크가 AgTP 절정상으로 변이 되었다. 이 결과로 AgNO₃ 수음액 0.5mol 농도 이상의 이온교환시 항균특성에 있어서도 매우 유리하리라 예상되어진다.

  • 전기방사는 submicron 이하 크기의 섬유를 부직포형태인 3차원으로 적층된 웹상으로 얻을 수 있는 방법으로 최근 많은 연구가 되고 있다[1-3]. 전통적인 방사방법인 용융방사와 melt blown 방사 방법으로 제조되는 피치계 탄소섬유는 우수한 방사성을 갖는 프리커서 피치를 이용해야 하고 이러한 방법으로 제조되는 탄소섬유나 활성탄소 섬유는 주로 직경 10-15 um 내외의 것이 대부분이어서 상대적으로 직경이 크기 때문에 굽힘 강도가 낮아 압축가공이 취약하다. (중략)

  • Sodium octylbenzenesulfonate(SOBS)와 sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate(SDBS)를 폴리프로필렌(PP) 용융액에 각각 균일하게 서로 다른 함량으로 섞어 넣은 후에 용융압착법 으로 PP 필름을 제조하였다. 저장 점성도(η') 저장탄성률(G') 및 손실 탄성률(G")을 진 동식 레오미터를 사용하여 170~195$^{\circ}C$에서 측정하였다. 실험온도 범위내에서 첨가제를 함유 한 PP와 순PPrks에 Cole-Cole 플롯(G'에 대한 G"의 log-log 플롯)에는 차이가 없었다. 그러나 광범위한 전단속도에서 SOBS의 첨가량이 8%를 넘어서면서 η'과 G'은 증가하였 다. 이러한 현상은 PP 중에서의 첨가제의 응집효과로 설명되었으며 이것은 SOBS와 SDBS 를 함유하는 PP 필름의 시차 주사열량법 및 주사전자 현미경 관찰결과로 확인되었다. SDBS를 8% 미만 함유하는 PP로부터 섬유의 용융방사가 가능하였으나 SDBS3% 이상 함 유PP 방사섬유는 연신 과정중에 섬유의 절단이 이따금 일어났다. PP 기질내에 있어서의 SDBS의 뜨거운 물에대한 견뢰성을 SDBS와 C. I. Basic blue 41사이의 이온결합 형성 거동 에 바탕을 두어 가시분광법에 의하여 검토하였다.

  • The processes for the smelting of a metal product and the solidification of a molten salt were developed respectively to treat the products from the electrochemical reduction process. The method for the separation of a metal product in a magnesia container from the residual. salt and consequent smelting of it to a metal ingot by the multi step heating in vacuum was proposed. The new concept using a dual vessel and a salt valve was also suggested for the solidification of a molten salt into a regular size and shape which is suitable for the transport and measurement. The results obtained in the study will be applied to the design of the hot cell demonstration system of the Advanced Spent Fuel Conditioning Process of KAERI.
