Automatic Mesh Generation with Quadrilateral Finite Elements (사각형 유한요소망의 자동생성)

  • An automatic mesh generation scheme has been developed for finite element analysis with two-dimensional, quadrilateral elements. The basic strategies of the method are to transform the analysis domain into loops with key nodes and the loops are recursively subdivided into subloops with the use of best split lines. Finally by using the basic loop operators, the meshes are completed. In this algorithm an eight-node loop operator is proposed, which is useful in the area where the change of element size is large and the splitting criteria for subdividing the loops have also been modified to the existing algorithms. Lines, arcs, and cubic spline curves are used to define the boundaries of analysis domain. Sample meshes for several geometries are presented to demonstrate the robustness of the algorithm.

  • 퍼지 이론과 계산기하학적 수법에 의한 자동요소 생성법, 해석코드 및 상용 솔리드 모델러를 유기적으로 통합한 자동화된 설계시스템을 개발하였다. 본 시스템은 여러 가지 복합현상과 관련된 실제 구조물에 대한 설계기능을 갖고 있다. 정전장 해석, 변형해석 및 모드해석 등과 같은 해석하고자 하는 물리적인 현상에 의존한 형상모델이 자동적으로 유한요소모델로 변환되어 해석을 수행한다. 또한 신경망의 기능을 도입, 통합시킴으로써 설계해의 영역을 유용하게 제시하여 준다. 개발한 시스템은 정전 마이크로머쉰의 성능 평가에 적용하여 그 효용성을 검증하였다.

A Remeshing Criterion for Large Deformation Finite Element Analysis (대변형 유한요소해석에서 요소망의 재구성을 위한 기준)

  • In this paper, a remeshing criterion has been suggested in order to order to automate the remeshing decision during finite element analysis of metal forming. In order to use for the remeshing decision, two of remeshing criteria have been investigated. One is the use of error estimates based on errors in stresses and strain rate of the finite element solution and the other is the use of geometric characterisreics of distorted elements. As a result, the strain rate error estimate in power norm based on the former is found to give more valuable information about remeshing decision than the ones based on the latter. Examples are given to demon- strate the usefulness of the suggested eroor estimate as a remeshing criterion.

  • A seamless analysis of complex geometry is one of greatly interesting topic. However, there are still gaps between the industrial applications and fundamental academic studies owing to time consuming modeling process. To resolve this problem, an auto mesh generation program based on grid-based approach has been developed for IT-product in the present study. At first, base mesh and skin mesh are generated using the information of entities which extracted from IGES file. Secondly the provisional core mesh with rugged boundary geometry is constructed by superimposing the skin mesh as well as the base mesh generated from the CAD model. Finally, the positions of boundary nodes are adjusted to make a qualified mesh by adapting node modification and smoothing techniques. Also, for the sake of verification of mesh quality, the hexahedral auto mesh constructed by the program is compared with the corresponding tetrahedral free mesh and hexahedral mapped mesh through static finite element analyses. Thereby, it is anticipated that the grid-based approach can be used as a promising pre-processor for integrity evaluation of various IT-products.

  • A unstructured tetrahedral mesh generation algorithm has been presented. To make better meshes in interior region using an advancing front technique, a connecting operator has been developed in addition to the existing operators. Before applying digging operators that generate new nodes inside of a meshing region, a connecting operator is employed that uses existing nodes which satisfy certain conditions for producing well-conditioned elements if possible. By introducing this new operator, tetrahedral meshing process becomes more robust and produces better quality of meshes.

  • The use of the finite element method for biomechanical analysis is increasing rapidly in recent years. Since biomechanical models are usually in very complex shapes, it takes a lot of time and efforts to build reasonable finite element models. In this paper, a new tetrahedral meshing algorithm from the series of 2-D computed tomography(CT) images has been proposed. In this scheme, the planar sections of three-dimensional objects and the side surfaces between two planar sections are triangulated first, and then an advancing front algorithm is employed to construct tetrahedral elements by using basic operators. A sample finite element model for thoracic vertebra is presented.

  • 한글 폰트를 만드는 데는 자음+모음 조합으로 약 11,500자 정도의 글자가 필요하다. 디자이너가 글자 하나씩 전부 디자인 하는 것도 굉장한 부담요소이고, 한글폰트를 제작하는데 있어 3개월 이상의 소요 기간과 3000만 원 이상의 비용부담 또한 무시 못 할 요소이다. 게다가 카피라이트 폰트에 대한 저작권 문제 또한 골칫거리다. 그래서 이를 최소한으로 하고자 딥 러닝의 방식중 하나인 GAN(생성적 적대 신경망)을 통해서 디자이너가 399자만 작성하고 나머지는 컴퓨터가 디자이너의 폰트 디자인을 인식하고 자동으로 만들어 주는 프로그램을 고안하였다.

  • In this paper, a tetrahedral mesh generation algorithm which uses a grid based method for interior region and an advancing front method for outer surface region is proposed. In order to apply an advancing front method for outer region of an object, a new operator so called a hole operator has been developed to handle multiple shells. With this grid based approach in the interior region, more stable and uniform meshes can be constructed especially in the interior region.

  • A general approach to automatic generation of triangular meshes on three-dimensional surfaces is presented in this paper. The approach, developed with emphasis on program generality and interface with CAD/CAM systems, is based on the double mapping method and the looping method. The double mapping method is introduced and anew splitting scheme is proposed for the looping method employed for triangular mesh generation on the parametric domain. Several application examples are given.

  • Recently, models in STL files are widely used in reverse engineering processes, CAD systems and analysis systems. However the models have poor geometric quality and include only triangles, so the models are not suitable for the finite element analysis. This paper presents a general method that generates finite element mesh from STL file models. Given triangular meshes, the method estimates triangles and makes clusters which consist of triangles. The clusters are merged by some geometric indices. After merging clusters, the method applies plane meshing algorithm, based on domain decomposition method, to each cluster and then the result plane mesh is projected into the original triangular set. Because the algorithm uses general methods to generate plane mesh, we can obtain both tri and quad meshes unlike previous researches. Some mechanical part models are used to show the validity of the proposed method.
