  • If we reduce the number of vertexes to decrease bit rate in polygon-based shape coding, the distortion of approximated contour increases rapidly. On the other hand, if we reduce the distortion, the number of vertexes increases rapidly and many bits are required to encode the vertexes. To improve this problem, in this paper we propose the approximation vertex search method. The encoder in the proposed method searches the type of distortion patterns that is the most similar to the shape which polygon edge and contour segment form and then encodes it. And then, the decoder mathematically finds the approximated vertexes from decoded distortion pattern information. Therefore, the proposed algorithm results in encoding many vertexes at a low bit rate and having the smoother shape than conventional method. As shown in computer simulation, the proposed method has less distortion than conventional method. It costs less bit rate by $10{\sim}20%$ than conventional algorithm in same distortion.

  • This paper presents the new architecture of an adaptive predistortion linearizer using the polynomial type predistorter. In the proposed linearizer, most of the processes, including the predistortion, are performed with a digital signal processor(DSP). The recursive least squares(RLS) algorithm is employed for the optimization process to minimize the errors between the predistorter and postdistorter output signals. Simulation results demonstrate that the adjacent channel power ratio(ACPR) is improved by greater than 40 dB at the band edge with linearization. The convergence and reconvergence performance of the linearizer is also satisfactory.

  • An adaptive predistorter linearizer suitable for the DSP implementation is proposed. Predistortion is performed by the DSP instead of the analog predistorter. RLS algorithm is employed for the optimization process to minimize the errors between the predistorter and postdistorter output signals. Computer simulation results for our linearizer show good performance.

  • In this paper, a new current-memory circuit is proposed that reduces the clock feedthrough(CFT) error voltage causing total harmonic distortion(THD) increment in switched-current(SI) systems. Using PMOS transistor in CMOS complementary, the proposed one reduces output distortion current due to the CFT errorvoltage. A proposed current-memory is designed using a 1.2.mu.m CMOS process anda 1MHz sinusoidal signal having a 68.mu.A amplitude current is applied as input (sampling frequency:20MHz). It hasbeen shown from the simulation that the output distortion current effected by the CFT error voltage is reduced by approximately 10 times the error voltage of conventional one, THD is -57dB in case ofappling 1kHz frequency input signalwith 0.5 peak signal-to-bias current ratio.

  • This paper deals with noise suppression of multi-channel data captured by microphone array using multi-channel Wiener filter. Multi-channel Wiener filter does not rely on information about the direction of the target speech and can be partitioned into an MVDR (Minimum Variance Distortionless Response) spatial filter and a single channel spectral filter. The acoustic transfer function between the single speech source and microphones can be estimated by subspace decomposition of multi-channel Wiener filter. The errors are incurred in the estimation of the acoustic transfer function due to the errors in the estimation of correlation matrices, which in turn results in speech distortion in the MVDR filter. To alleviate the speech distortion in the MVDR filter, diagonal loading is applied. In the experiments, database with seven microphones was used and MFCC distance was measured to demonstrate the effectiveness of the diagonal loading.

  • In general, the accelerogram of earthquake ground motion or the accelerogram obtained from dynamic tests contain various errors. In these errors of the accelerograms, there are instrumental errors(magnitude and phase distortion) due to the response characteristics of accelerometer and the digitizing error concentrated in low and high frequency components and random errors. Then, these errors may be detrimental to the results of data processing and dynamic analysis. An efficient method which can correct the errors of the accelerogram is proposed in this study. The correction of errors can be accomplished through four steps as followes ; 1) using an interpolation method a data form appropriate to the error correction is prepared, 2) low and high frequency errors of the accelerogram are removed by band-pass filter between prescribed frequency limits, 3) instrumental errors are corrected using dynamic equilibrium equation of the accelerometer, 4) velocity and displacement are obtained by integrating corrected accelerogram. Presently, infinite impulse response(IIR) filter and finite impulse response (FIR) filter are generally used as band-pass filter. In the proposed error correction procedure, the deficiencies of FIR filter and IIR filter are reduced and, using the properties of the differentiation and the integration of Fourier transform, the accuracy of instrument correction and integration is improved.

  • We developed a software for simulations and analyses of the Image Navigation and Registration (INR) system, and compares the characteristics of Image Motion Compensation (IMC) algorithms for the INR system. According to the orbit errors and attitude errors, the capabilities of the image distortions are analyzed. The distortions of images can be compensated by GOES IMC algorithm and Modified IMC (MIMC) algorithm. The capabilities of each IMC algorithm are confirmed based on compensated images. The MIMC yields better results than GOES IMC although both the algorithms well compensate distorted images. The results of this research can be used as valuable asset to design of INR system for the Communication, Ocean, Meteorological Satellite (COMS).

  • Gravity anomalies observed in shipborne survey are usually distorted by bad weather conditions and unexpected vessel movement. These distorted data should be removed because they may mislead the data interpretation. However, it is not possible to perfectly remove all erroneous data. Cross-over point correction, which is generally used, only reduces the errors at cross-over points, and thus the data still contain error values. To resolve this drawback, Rauch-Tung-Striebel(RTS) filter was adopted to minimize all errors in the data and at cross-over points. After applying this method, the range of anomaly variation is reduced from 15 mGal to less than 2 mGal, and errors at the cross-over points are minimized from 4.21 mGal to 2.95 mGal. The results imply that RTS filter is very useful to reduce errors in the data and corss-over points.

  • The accuracy of MR sensor-based electronic compass is influenced by the temperature drift and DC offset of the MR sensor and the OP-amp, the magnetic distortion of nearby magnetic materials, and the compass tilt We design the 3-axis MR sensor and accelerometers-based electronic compass which is compensated by the set/reset pulse switching method on the temperature drift and DC offset, by the execution of hard-iron calibration routine on the magnetic distortion, and by the execution of the Euler rotational equation on the compass tilt. We qualitatively analyze the measured azimuth error on the execution of sensitivity calibration routine which is the normalization process on the different sensitivity of each MR sensor and the different gain of each op-amps. This compensation and analytic result make us design the one degree accuracy electronic compass.
