Feasibility of Backfire Control and Engine Performance with Different Valve Overlap Period of Hydrogen-Fueled Engine with External Mixture (흡기관 분사식 수소기관의 밸브오버랩 기간 변화에 따른 기관성능과 역화억제 가능성)

  • 고효율의 실현이 가능한 흡기관 분사식 수소기관의 역화 억제 가능성을 파악하고자 밸브 오버랩 기간의 변화에 따른 제반 기관성능과 역화가 발생되는 역화한계 당량비를 실험적으로 해석하였다. 실험에는 기계식 연속 가변밸브 타이밍 시스템이 부착된 연구용 수소기관을 사용하였다. 밸브 오버랩기간은 배기밸브 개폐시기를 고정하고 흡기밸브 캠의 위상각을 조절하여 변화시켰다. 해석결과 밸브 오버랩 기간의 감소에 따른 제반기관성능은 통상의 기관과 유사하지만 역화한계 당량비가 확장되어 초기 단계이지만 수소기관의 역화발생에 밸브오버랩 기간이 관여하는 것이 보였다. 기관 회전수 1600 rpm, WOT의 실험 조건에서 밸브 오버랩 기간을 $20^{\circ}CA$에서 $0^{\circ}CA$로 감소시킨 경우 역화한계당량비는 약 45% 정도 확장되고 정미 토크는 16% 감소했다.

  • In order to verify the feasibility of expansion of back-fire limit equivalence ratio in the hydrogen-fueled engine with external mixture, the characteristics of performance and combustion are experimentally analyzed with change of intake/exhaust valve timings under the fixed valve overlap period of $0^{\circ}$ CA(non-valve overlap period). These characteristics are also tested for the change of exhaust valve closing timing while intake valve opening timing is fixed to clear the main cause of back-fire occurrence. As the results, the less valve overlap period center is retarded, the more back-fire limit equivalence ratio increases and back-fire does not occurred after TDC. In addition, it was shown that the control of back-fire is dependent on intake valve opening timing than valve overlap period.

  • Residual gas fraction in an engine cylinder affects engine performance, efficiency and emission characteristics. With high residual gas fractions, a flame speed and maximum combustion temperature are decreased and these are deeply related with combustion stability especially at idle and NOx emission at relatively high engine load. In this work, the residual gas fraction was calculated by an engine simulation code, which was validated by the experimental data (cylinder pressure and emissions) obtained from 4-cyliner spark ignition engine. A comparison between experimental and computational calculation results was made. The residual gas is generated mostly at low engine speed by the larger pressure difference between the intake and exhaust port. As the valve overlap duration was increased, the amount of residual gas in the cylinder, the amount of HC emission in the exhaust gas and the variation of power output increased.

  • In this study, a zero-dimensional two zone model is developed to investigate the effects of valve overlap period and valve lift on combustion and gas exchange process in SI engine. The simulation results show that the predicted data has good agreements with experimental ones. The useful information of combustion and gas exchange process such as residual gas fraction, cylinder pressure, mass flow rate and volumetric efficiency can be obtained and the effects of engine variables on combustion processes and performances can be evaluated.

  • To grasp a feasibility of back fire control by valve overlap period, back fire limit equivalence ratio was estimated with valve overlap period which has the same supply energy and positive intake pressure as valve overlap period $300^{\circ}\;CA$. As the result, it was shown that the smaller valve overlap period has the higher back fire limit equivalence ratio under valve overlap period $300^{\circ}\;CA$ as well as VOP $0^{\circ}\;CA$. This result means that expansion of back fire equivalence ratio by decreasing valve overlap period was caused by decrease of back flow duration of flame from in-cylinder to intake port than decrease of lower supply energy.

  • To analyze the influence of valve overlap period on a backfire occurrence, the single cylinder research engine with MCVVT(Mechanical Continuous Variable Valve Timing) system is developed and backfire limit equivalence ratio defined as fuel-air ratio equivalence ratio at which backfire occurs is examined according to various valve overlap period. The MCVVT is the system to control valve overlap period by mechanical device. It is estimated that the lower valve overlap period has the higher backfire limit equivalence ratio though the same energy is supplied. When the valve overlap period is changed from 30$^{circ}$ CA to 0$^{circ}$ CA, backfire limit equivalence ratio is increased 74%, approximately. It means that valve overlap period is concern in backfire occurrence, and may be one of the methods for controlling back fire occurred in a $H_2$ engine.

  • 차세데 홈네트워크 환경하에서는 다양한 데이터 통신 무선기기들이 홈/오피스에서 공존할 것이다. 예를들어 무선랜, 블루투스(Bluetooth), 지그비(Zigbee), 무선 USB, UWB(Ultra Wideband) 등이 함께 주파수를 공유하게 될 것이며, 특히 ISM 대역은 서비스, 산업, 의료용 등으로 다양한 응용이 가느하기 때문에 전파 간섭이 예상된다. 본 논문에서는 IEEE 802.11b 무선랜(WLAN)과 IEEE 802.15.4 저전력 저속 무선팬(WPAN) 무선기기에 대하여 간섭실험을 하였으며 두 무선기기가 상호 공존할 수 있는 공유 조건에 대해 분석하였다. 무선랜(WLAN)과 무선팬(WPAN)의 주파수 대역이 완전히 오버랩된 경우 간섭 레벨과 무선팬의 패킷 전송 횟수를 변화 시켜 상호간의 간섭 영향 저도를 측정하고 상호 무선기기간의 간섭 결과를 바탕으로 상호 무선기기간의 주파수 공유 조건을 제시하고자 한다.

  • To develop a hydrogen fueled engine with external mixture which uses in high reliability, low cost and low pressure, the single cylinder research engine with MCVVT(Mechanical Continuous Variable Valve Timing) system is developed and its basic characteristics analyzed. The MCVVT developed has high reliability and the valve timing change is possible in wide range continuously. Though the mechanical loss due to MCVVT system is increased a little, back-fire suppression research for valve overlap period is no difficulty. It's also confirmed that the hydrogen-fueled engine has lower torque and is possible high lean burn. As fuel-air equivalence ratio is high, as thermal efficiency is remarkable increasing.

  • The age of synthetic correspondence against "development period shortening, high quality" is about to come. While the product is becoming complexation gradually and also diversification, life cycle of product gets shorted. Under the infinity competition age, the certain answer of "the survival of the fittest" is that the enterprise itself must be able to shorten development and delivery term, reduce product development and life cycle cost, and satisfy customer in performance and value. From this point of view, concurrent engineering's theory, which develops the process of product in the manner of repetition, parallel, and synchronousness, is realized as a important strategy instrument in construction. This study investigates and analyzes several examples in order to apply concurrent engineering successfully, and presents the decision-making model through the simulation about the factor affecting in each process.

A Numerical Study of Hydraulic Fractures Propagation with Rock Bridges (Rock bridges를 고려한 수치 해석적 수압파쇄 균열거동 연구)

  • Rock bridge in rock masses can be considered as one of several types of opening-mode fractures, and also it has been known to have a great influence on the stability of structures in rock mats. In the beginning of researching a rock bridge it used to be studied only in characteristics of its behavior, as considering resistance of material itself. However the distribution pattern of rock bridges, which can affect the stability of rock structures, is currently researched with a fracture mechanical approach in numerical studies. For investigating the effect of rock bridges on the development pattern of hydraulic fractures, the author analyzed numerically the stress state transition in rock bridges and their phenomena with a different pattern of the rock bridge distributons. From the numerical studies, a two-crack configuration could be defined to be representative of the most critical conditions for rock bridges, only when cracks are systematic and same in their length and angle. Moreover, coalescence stresses and onset of propagation stresses could be known to increase with decreasing s/L ratio or increasing d/L ratio. The effect of pre-existing crack on hydraulic fracturing was studied also in numerical models. Different to the simple hydraulic fracturing modeling in which the fractures propagated exactly parallel to the maximum remote stress, the hydraulic fractures with pre-existing cracks dial not propagate parallel to the maximum remote stress direction. These are representative of the tendency to change the hydraulic fractures direction because of the existence of pre-existing crack. Therefore s/L, d/L ratios will be identical as a function effective on hydraulic fractures propagation, that is, the $K_{I}$ vague increase with decreasing s/L ratio or increasing d/L ratio and its magnification from onset to propagation increases with decreasing s/L ratio. The scanline is a commonly used method to estimate the fracture distribution on outcrops. The data obtained from the scanline method can be applied to the evaluation of stress field in rock mass.s.
