System Level Space Environment Testing of Satellite Digital Transponder (디지털 위성중계기에 대한 시스템 단위의 우주환경 검증 시험)

  • EQM Model Digital transponder applying the Korean's own designing and manufacturing technology has gone through a series of trials and errors during the development. In particular, lack of thermal designs expedience for the vacuum causes variety of errors in designing, assembling transponder and setting up the test at the first thermal vacuum test (TVAC). Since the first TVAC test could not accomplished its aims successfully, so the second TVAC should be performed as make up test with revised Digital transponder. In this paper, the defects that identified in the first TVAC are analyzed and applied solutions and its results at the second TVAC are presented. Using the lessons from the first and second TVAC, we will be able to make more reliable digital transponders in the next phase of project. In addition it also be useful as a reference when we design another satellite payloads.

Fips : Dynamic File Prefetching Scheme based on File Access Patterns (Fips : 파일 접근 유형을 고려한 동적 파일 선반입 기법)

  • A Parallel file system is normally used to support excessive file requests from parallel applications in a cluster system, whereas prefetching is useful for improving the file system performance. This paper proposes a new prefetching method, Fips(dynamic File Prefetching Scheme based on file access patterms), that is particularly suitable for parallel scientific applications and multimedia web services in a parallel file system. The proposed prefetching method introduces a dynamic prefetching scheme to predict data blocks precisely in run-time although the file access patterns are irregular. In addition, it includes an algorithm to determine whether and when the prefetching is performed using the current available I/O bandwidth. Experimental results confirmed that the use of the proposed prefetching policy in a parallel file system produced a higher file system performance.

  • Experimental analysis of the spray characteristics of the movable sleeve injector, which can simultaneously control the area of the annular gap and the pintle gap, has been studied and a method for controlling the uniform performance over a wide thrust range has been studied. It is confirmed that the design flow rate is not satisfied when the constant pressure difference is set regardless of the opening distance of the sleeve. In order to improve this, the differential pressure in the annular gap and the pintle gap was applied differently according to the opening distance. It was confirmed that the design flow rate was satisfied within the operating range and thrust control was linear from 25% to 100% in linear sleeve area.

  • The 3D absolute displacement monitoring system has been developed to analyze the tunnel convergence measured under construction of underground structures and to manage effectively the measured data. The system is comprised of the total station, the anchor-typed target pin and the 3D absolute displacement measurement and management program. In this paper, the types and specifications of the 3D total station were presented. The anchor-typed target pin, an improved model of traditional one, was developed and its sightable distance and measurement accuracy were checked by field tests. Also a 3D absolute displacement measurement and management program, TEMS 3D, was developed to provide some analysis tools including the trend and influence lines. L/C ratio, S/C ratio and the like. The developed system was applied the construction stage of a railway tunnel for testing purpose. It is verified that the developed system is capable of predicting weak zones ahead of tunnel face by comparing with results of TSP (Tunnel Seismic Prediction) survey.

  • We propose a new method to reduce the complexity of excitation codebook search. The preselected excitation pulses by the coarse search method can be updated to pulses with higher quality performance measure. The excitation pulses can arbitrarily be deleted and inserted among the searched pulses until the overall performance achieves. If we use this excitation pulse search method in AMR-WB, the complexity required for excitation codebook search can be reduced to half the original method while the output speech maintains equal speech quality to a conventional method.

  • Compressive sensing (CS) has to face with two challenges of computational complexity reconstruction and low coding efficiency. As a solution, this paper presents a novel spatially scalable Kronecker two layer compressive sensing framework which facilitates reconstruction up to three spatial resolutions as well as much improved CS coding performance. We propose a dual-resolution sensing matrix based on the quincunx sampling grid which is applied to the base layer. This sensing matrix can provide a fast-preview of low resolution image at encoder side which is utilized for predictive coding. The enhancement layer is encoded as the residual measurement between the acquired measurement and predicted measurement data. The low resolution reconstruction is obtained from the base layer only while the high resolution image is jointly reconstructed using both two layers. Experimental results validate that the proposed scheme outperforms both conventional single layer and previous multi-resolution schemes especially at high bitrate like 2.0 bpp by 5.75dB and 5.05dB PSNR gain on average, respectively.

  • The ATM Forum has been focusing on flow control mechanism for ABR traffic management. The goal of this activity is to efficiently manage the leftover network bandwidth and fairly distribute it among contending ABR VC so that communication links can be optimally utilized. ABR traffic is difficult to predict traffic shape because it has bursts and variable behavior. Also it's sensitive to lose but not to delay. This behavior makes difficult to UPC function in network and cause of congestion in switch, thus performance is degraded. To resolve this problem, various flow control mechanism has been worked in the ATM Forum. Especially, the rate-based flow control mechanism for ABR traffic has been standardized in the ATM Forum, Sept. 1994. Thus, various flow control mechanism has been working which likes EFCI, ER, VS/VD. VS/VD control is superior than existed ER control because it isolate different networks from each other. In this paper, we propose an expanded VS/VD flow control algorithm and compare with existed VS/VD flow control algorithm. Simulation result shows that this algorithm improve a problem in aspect of delay and fairness.

Enhanced TCP Congestion Control Mechanism for Networks with Large Bandwidth Delay Product (대역폭과 지연의 곱이 큰 네트워크를 위한 개선된 TCP 혼잡제어 메카니즘)

  • Traditional TCP implementations have the under-utilization problem in large bandwidth delay product networks especially during the startup phase. In this paper, we propose a delay-based congestion control(DCC) mechanism to solve the problem. DCC is subdivided into linear and exponential growth phases. When there is no queueing delay, the congestion window grows exponentially during the congestion avoidance period. Otherwise, it maintains linear increase of congestion window similar to the legacy TCP congestion avoidance algorithm. The exponential increase phase such as the slow-start period in the legacy TCP can cause serious performance degradation by packet losses in case the buffer size is insufficient for the bandwidth-delay product, even though there is sufficient bandwidth. Thus, the DCC uses the RTT(Round Trip Time) status and the estimated queue size to prevent packet losses due to excessive transmission during the exponential growth phase. The simulation results show that the DCC algorithm significantly improves the TCP startup time and the throughput performance of TCP in large bandwidth delay product networks.

  • This paper presents techniques of 2-D scattering center extraction and 2-B ISAR(Inverse SAR) image formation for scattering wave which is scattered by a target. In general, 2-D IFFT is widely used to obtain 2-D scattering center and ISAR image of targets. But, this method has drawbacks, that is poor in a resolution aspect. To overcome these shortcomings with the FT(Fourier Transform)-based method, various techniques of high resolution signal processing were developed. In this paper, algorithms of 2-D scattering center extraction and ISAR image formation such as 2-D MEMP(Matrix Enhancement and Matrix Pencil), 2-D ESPRIT(Estimation of Signal Parameter via Rotational Invariance Techniques) are described. In order to show the performances of each algorithm, we use scattering wave of the ideal point scatterers and F-18 aircraft to estimate 2-D scattering center and abtain 2-D ISAR image.

Design and Performance Analysis of a Fuel Transfer Jet Pump in the Smart UAV Fuel Supply System (스마트무인기연료공급시스템 연료이송 제트펌프의 설계 및 성능해석에 관한 연구)

  • Design and performance analysis of the jet pump to transfer fuel between tanks in the smart UAV fuel supply system were carried out through one dimensional flow analysis and the flow analysis using a commercial CFD code. From the analysis results, it was proved that the jet pump was designed with the flow ratio of 2.23 that is the fundamental requirement of the jet pump design. The comparison results showed that the primary nozzle pressure is higher in the CFD analysis than in one dimensional flow analysis, mainly due to the underestimated loss coefficient of the primary nozzles. Consequently, the loss coefficients of the jet pump components should be determined more precisely for the design of the jet pumps with high performance.
