Development of the Ship Resistance Calculation Program for Prediction of Towing Forces for damaged Ships (손상 선박의 예인력 추정을 위한 선박 저항 계산 프로그램 개발)

  • One of the primary purposes of tugs is for the towing of other ships in salvage operations. In order to conduct such a task safely, the tug should be capable of generating the appropriate towing forces. Therefore the prediction of resistance against a towed ship during towing operation is a very important and essential procedure. This paper studies the ship resistance calculation program to predict towing force. The calculation program consists of the functions that calculate basic hull resistance in calm water, added resistance due to wind, drifting, hull roughness, waves, shallow water and currents. All predictions are calculated by statistical and empirical methods by graph or formula. The calculation results made by this program are compared with the results from the U.S. Navy's Towing Manual. These results confirm that this computer program is quite capable of appropriately predicting the resistance of damaged ships.

A Study on the Calculation of Resistance of the Ship to be Towed and Towline Tension (선박의 예인저항 및 예인삭의 장력 계산에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, calculation methods of resistance of the ship to be towed and towline tension are discussed. When the vessel is fallen into dead ship condition then appropriate towing force have to be estimated to move the vessel from accident place to safe area. In this research, resistance of the ship to be towed and the tow hawser were considered to estimate total towline tension. Polynomial interpolation method is also applied to estimate additional hydrodynamic resistance of towline. Finally, UI program to calculate the resistance and total towline tension is developed. The developed program based on the research results is effective and convenient to use.

A Study on the Relation between Towing Force of Tow Vessel and Towing Point and Behavior of Towed Ship (예인력과 피예인선의 예인 지점과 거동에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, an analysis results of towing force and towing points which are dominating factors to determine the behavior of towed ship are introduced. The towing force and towing points to achive the desired posture and its position of the towed vessel are derived based on simplified dynamics and linearization method. LQR algorithm for posture control is applied to linearized system and numerical simulation is also executed. Force based on COG(cneter of gravity) and gain of controller to achieve desired posture for target vessel are obtained by using Riccati matrix equation and pseudo inverse matrix is applied to analyze the relation between the derived force and its towing point. Based on this analysis method, towing force need to move the towed vessel from its initial position to target position can be calculated. The towing method including towing point and direction is also considered on this method. Finally, the relation between towing force and towing point is confirmed from the analysis and the results can be applied to arrangement of tug boats during salvage works.

  • This paper suggested an error detection process based on multimedia computer supported cooperative works (CSCW) for industry safety environment. This system is suitable for detecting software fault for multimedia CSCW. It is necessary of detecting an error for the system to be protected by reactivity of media service instance instead of breaking process of session. This paper describes a performance analysis of an error detecting system of function comparison of proposed method with other method based multimedia CSCW for explosives as an example of industry safety environment.

A Comparative Study of Sea Trials and Production Processes for Propulsion Type Working Boats with a Tuna Purse Seiner (다랑어 선망어선 탑재용 보조 작업선의 추진기 형태 변화에 대한 제작과정 및 해상시운전 비교 연구)

  • In Korea, much research and development have occurred to enhance the technological competitiveness of tuna purse seining fisheries. Due to these efforts, fishing efficiency has been improved with the development of radar, sonar and global positioning systems for fish detection and revisions to the hull forms of tuna purse seiners. However, for skiff boats, net boats and speed boats, which are auxiliary working boats mounted on tuna purse seiners, technology has lagged behind relative to the modernization of the main vessel. In this study, the hull of an existing propeller-based net boat with steel wire net to protect tuna was changed to the hull of a water jet propulsion vehicle to reduce resistance and improve maneuverability. As a result, a prototype of a water jet propulsion option was produced according to the aluminum structure strength standards specified by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, and safety was confirmed by performing a drop test. Moreover, through a sea trial test, an existing net boat was shown to have a speed of 12.0knots and a towing force of 2,545 kgf at 2,500 RPM. The prototype had a speed of 26.7 knots and a towing force of 2,011 kgf at 3,200 RPM, which satisfied the towing capacity standards of auxiliary working boats mounted on tuna purse seiners.

  • It is important that effective and rapid response should be taken in the initial stage of the tanker accidents. A towing simulation system is essential to train in-site salvors for tile effective response in the tanker accidents. Training this system will help the marine environment to be protected from the oil pollution which could be proceed further by the secondary accidents. It this study, the towing simulation system using the TIS(Towing vessel Information System) was established, and ground reaction force was calculated using the simplified methods. This system will be useful for evaluation of towing procedures of oil tankers in stranding.

  • 울산신항 북방파제(제3공구)축조공사에서는 국내 최초로 선박제조용 F/D(Floating Dock)선을 적용하여 케이슨 제작 및 거치공사를 실시하였으며, 공장형 슬립폼 제작장(IP-CCV)를 적용한 경우 보다 공기단축 및 원가절감의 효과가 있었다. F/D선 공법 순서는 작업부두에 F/D선 접안, 케이슨 제작, F/D선 진수장 이동, F/D선 및 케이슨 진수, 케이슨 예인 및 거치의 순서로 시행되었으며, 현재 턴키공사의 설계특화 내용으로 활용되어 시공안정성 향상 및 공기, 공사비 절감 방안으로 적용되고 있다. 향후 남북관계가 원만히 해결되어 동해안 항만개발이 가속화되면 국외특허공법(IP-CCV)에 의존없이 경쟁력있는 공법이라 판단된다.

  • 해양플랜트 구난기술은 상당 부분 선박구난과 동일하여 수중절단, 인양, 계류, 기름의 이송 및 예인 등은 공통적으로 적용이 가능하다. 그러나 구조물이 복잡하고 대형이며, 심해 설치 등의 특성이 있으므로 해양플랜트 구난작업에는 유형별 구조에 대한 정확한 이해가 필요하다. 해양플랜트 설치, 이송 및 해체 분야에 대한 기술은 구난 분야에도 적용이 가능하므로 해양플랜트 특성에 적합한 구난기술 개발 방향을 제안하였다.

Experimental Investigation on the Embedding Motion and Holding Power of Anchor According to Initial Position (앵커의 초기 투묘 상태에 따르는 파주운동과 파주력 특성에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • The vessel should prevent dragging anchor against the external forces by utilizing the anchor and secure the stability of it. A fundamental understanding on the embedding motion and holding power of the anchor is necessary to perform the safe operating of anchor work. In this study, the embedding motion and holding power of the anchor according to an initial position in an experimental tank of 6m long in sand are tested by using two types of different anchor models(ASS and AC-14), which are generally applied to the commercial vessel nowadays. The anchor flukes seem to rotate and to be embedded into soil up to the maximum depth and maintaining a constant depth in case of the same direction and perpendicular to the towing direction, regardless of the form of an anchor. In case of the opposite direction to the towing direction, it is noted that the coefficient of holding power becomes smaller than the other initial positions.
