Effects of the Fall Prevention Education Program (FPEP) for Caregivers in Elderly Care Facilities on Fall-related Knowledge, Fall-related Burden, and Caring Behaviors for Fall Prevention (노인요양시설 요양보호사를 위한 낙상예방교육프로그램이 낙상관련 지식, 낙상관련 부담감 및 낙상예방 돌봄행위에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of the study was to examine the effects of the Fall Prevention Education Program (FPEP) on those providing direct care in elderly care facilities regarding fall-related knowledge, fall-related burden, and caring behaviors for fall prevention. The FPEP developed in the study was implemented for 80 minutes per session and four sessions in total. Participants included a total of 47 subjects, 24 in the experimental group and 23 in the control group. The program was implemented from July 16 through August 31, 2012. Data were analyzed using ${\chi}^2$-tests, Fisher's exact probability tests, independent t-tests, and analyses of covariance using the SPSS/Win 19.0 program. According to the pre-and post-test, the experimental group participated in the program showed an increase in fall -related knowledge (t=6.71, p<.001), a decrease in fall-related burden (t=-2.31, p=.026), and an increase in caring behaviors for fall prevention (F=49.50, p<.001) as compared to the control group. The results of the study demonstrated that the FPEP developed for those providing direct care in elderly care facilities was an effective intervention for decreasing fall-related burden and increasing fall-related knowledge and caring behaviors for fall prevention.

Effects of a Prevention Program for Media Addiction on Television Addiction, Internet Addiction, Cellular Addiction, and Impulsiveness in Elementary School Students (매체 중독 예방 프로그램이 초등학생의 텔레비전 중독, 인터넷 중독, 휴대전화 중독 및 충동성에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study was done to develop a prevention program for media addiction in elementary school students, and to examine its effects on television addiction, internet addiction, cellular phone addiction, and impulsiveness. Methods: The study was designed using a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The participants were 58 elementary school students (29 in the experimental group and 29 in the control group). Students in the experimental group were given the prevention program for media addiction. The data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 19.0 program. Results: Students in the experimental group reported a significant decrease in television addiction compared to students in the control group. Conclusion: The results of the study indicate that the prevention program for media addiction was effective in decreasing television addiction in elementary school students.

Meta-analysis of the Interventions for Preventing Falls by the Elderly in the Eight Countries: Comparison Between Aged 70's and 80's (외국의 노인 낙상 예방 프로그램 메타 분석: 70대와 80대 고령자 집단의 비교)

  • The purpose of this research is to meta-analyze on a comparative basis interventions for preventing falls by the elderly in their 70's and 80's in the eight countries. Eleven studies conducted by RCT were found via Medline in Ovid, PsychInfo and Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews. Use of Review Manager shows that interventions in the 70's group are effective (OR=0.65, 95%) but that those in the 80's group are not (OR=1.57, 95%). Furthermore, the effectiveness of the 70's treatment group is not durable. This paper has three policy implications: First, new intervention programmes for preventing falls by the 70's group should be developed toward increasing durability. Second, existing programmes for the 80's group should be amended to enhance effectiveness. Lastly, new programmes that include cognitive-behavioural components should be designed for elderly individuals suffering from mental diseases.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the research trend of the dementia prevention program in the elderly. Between 2000 and 2018, the Korean Research Information Service (Riss), Google Scholar Search, DBpia, Korea Academy of Science Information (Dissemination Prevention), Dementia Prevention Program, Dementia, The purpose of this study was to investigate the dementia prevention program for the elderly. Based on the analysis criteria and methods of the 404 papers, 36 papers were finally selected. The results of this study are as follows: First, as a result of analysis of the basic structure of the research data and program implementation structure, And, when applied quantitative research method, 25 cases showed a much higher tendency. As a result of analyzing trends of the implementation structure of dementia prevention program for the elderly, 11 were the most in the nursing home (elderly welfare hospital), and the proportion of elderly women was higher than that of male elderly. 65 years of age or older. Second, as a result of analyzing the type of intervention program for dementia prevention program, Third, the Korean version of the MMSE-K tool, which measures cognitive function, is the most frequently used dementia prevention program measurement tool and the result of analysis of effectiveness, Significant improvement in cognitive function. The results of this study suggest that the prevention of dementia for the elderly should be avoided from a fragmentary program and improve the cognitive function, mental behavior and lifestyle of the elderly, improve the healthy aging and quality of life, Suggesting that a program is required.

Meta-Analysis on the Effect of School Violence Intervention Program (학교폭력 예방 프로그램의 효과에 대한 메타분석)

  • The purpose of this study was using a meta-analysis to estimate effect size of school violence prevention program. Using an objective and systematic method, meta-analysis has advantages that prove intervention's amount and direction. Meta-analysis facilitates comprehensive analysis. Through the data collection, 33studies were selected and 129 effect size were calculated as analysis objects. The overall effect size of school violence prevention program was 0.624. In the human characteristic, the affective domain had the largest effect size. Next were the physical domain, cognitive domain, the social domain and the complex domain. Analysis on age of participant, high grade elementary students group had the largest effect size. Next were the high school students, middle school students and the lower grade elementary students group. Analysis on intervention periods, tertiary prevention had a largest effect size. Next were secondary prevention and primary prevention. Based on the findings, implications for future study were discussed.

Dementia Prevention Programs among Koreans: A Systematic Review (치매예방프로그램에 대한 체계적 문헌고찰 (국내문헌을 중심으로))

  • Due to the increasing global prevalence of dementia, such as Alzheimer disease, there is a growing public health concern about its prevention. The purpose of this study was to conduct a systematic review for a narrative synthesis and critical appraisal of current published research related to dementia prevention programs among Koreans. To conduct a systematic review, the data bases KoreaMed, Riss4u and 9 Nursing Journals were searched using the key words dementia prevention and cognitive function. Articles published between 2000~2014 and related to dementia prevention programs were reviewed. Two hundred-fifty references were searched but only 29 studies met our inclusion criteria to review. We found that dementia prevention programs focused on: exercise, 11 studies (37.9%); multi-therapy, 9 studies (31.0%); and cognitive enhancement activity, 4 studies(13.8%). The majority of studies (n=19, 65.5%) included adults over 65 while two studies targeted adults over 75. The current literature indicates that future research is needed to develop and provide appropriate and effective dementia prevention programs among Korean older adults.

  • This study was to examine the effects of fall prevention educational program on the related knowledge, attitude, and self-efficacy of nurses working in Comprehensive Nursing Care Unit, general hospital. A quasi-experiment with a nonequivalent control group non-synchronized design was used, Participants included a total of 40 nurses as the subjects (Intervention: n=20, Control: n=20) working in Comprehensive Nursing Care Unit, general hospital, Seoul. Data were collected form March through May, 2017. Data were analyzed by using the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. Intervention group showed significant higher knowledge (F=189.03, p<.001), attitude (F=761.74, p=.003), and self-efficacy (F=188.50, p=.002) scores than them of control group. The fall prevention educational program was an effective intervention for improving the related knowledge, attitude, and self-efficacy of nurses working in Comprehensive Nursing Care Units, general hospital. Therefore, the results show the necessity of developing and applying the systemic nursing intervention to improve preventive behavior on falls.

The Effect of Resiliency Training Program for Child Protection Agency Counselors to Prevent Secondary Traumatic Stress (아동보호전문기관 상담원을 대상으로 한 이차외상스트레스 예방을 위한 레질리언스 훈련 프로그램의 효과 연구)

  • The objective of this study is to find out the effect of the secondary traumatic stress prevention program for counselors at child protection agencies. The quasi-experiment design was used for pre-test, post-test, and for follow-up test, performed 3 months after the program. Experimental group consisted of 9 counselors, while the comparison group consisted of 10 counselors. As a result, it was revealed that secondary traumatic stress prevention program was effective in decreasing the secondary traumatic stress and depression of the counselors, and also effective in increasing stress coping even though it was not statistically significant. Follow-up test did not present statistically significant changes in secondary traumatic stress, depression, and stress coping. It was found that, to achieve continued effect of the program, much longer and sustained program is required. Based on these findings, the necessity and application of the secondary traumatic stress prevention program were suggested.

Trends in Domestic and Foreign Studies on the Effect of Preventing Cervical Cancer Program in Parents (부모 대상 자궁경부암 예방교육프로그램 효과에 관한 국내·외 연구동향)

  • This study aimed to analyze previous studies on cervical cancer preventive education programs for parents. Data from January 2007 to November 2017 were searched via PubMed, Science Direct and CINAHL in foreign search databases, and RISS and Dbpia in domestic search databases. A total of 329 papers were searched, and 7 papers were finally selected based on the selection criteria and the exclusion criteria. Power point(PPT), leaflet, brochure and text messages were used as method for program education and among which, PPT were used the most. As a result of education program effect, it is found that parent's knowledge on HPV and intention for preventive inoculation became increased and rate of actual inoculation indeed higher. This analysis indicates there is a big need for cervical cancer preventive education program developing for parents in Korea and accordingly, various study for programs are expected to be performed.
