  • Feeding habits of Hippocampus mohnikei (4.1~10.4 cm SL) collected from an eelgrass bed in Dongdae Bay, Korea were studied. H. mohnikei was a carnivore fish which consumed mainly gammarid amphipods. Its diets also included a small amount of caprellid amphipods, tanaids, copepods, mysids, and eelgrass. Gammarid amphipods were the most important prey organisms to the diet of all size classes of H. mohnikei despite smaller H. mohnikei (<4.5 cm SL) fed copepods. H. mohnikei fed on larger sizes of prey as their size increased. The dietary breadth of H. mohnikei were decreased with increasing their size.

  • Feeding habits of Syngnathus schlegeli were studied by using samples collected from the eelgrass bed in Kwangyang Bay, Korea from January 1994 to December 1994. Syngnathus schlegeli was a carnivore which mainly consumed copepods and epiphytal gammarid amphipods. Its diets included small quantities of caprellid amphipods, tanaids and mysids. It showed ontogenetic changes in feeding habits. In its initial feeding stage, copepods were major food organisms. However, gammarid amphipods were heavily selected with the incretment of the fish size. Food availability in the eelgrass bed changed seasonally. Its main food items were changed according to variations of food availability. Copepods were mainly consumed in spring, and gammarid amphipods in summer and fall.

  • Feeding Habits of Acanthogobius flavimanus collected from the eelgrass bed in Kwangyang Bay from January to December 1994 were studied. A. flavimanus was a carnivore which consumed mainly polychaetes, crabs, shrimps, gammarid amphipods and fishes. Its diets included small quantities of ophiuroids, gastropods, bivalves, caprellid amphipods, isopods and tanaids. It showed ontogenetic changes in feeding habits. Small individuals fed mainly on polychaetes and amphipods. While the consumption of polychaetes and amphipods decreased with increasing fish sin, the consumption of shrimps, crabs and fishes increased. A. flavimanus fed diverse prey organisms in adult stage. The relative proportion of the major prey items changed with season. Although the consumption of polychaetes, shrimps and gammarid amphipods was relatively high in spring and autumn, A. flavimanus fed various prey organisms in nearly equal proportions in the other seasons.

  • Feeding habits of Acentrogobius pflaumii collected from the eelgrass bed in Kwangyang Bay from January 1994 to December 1994 were studied. Acentrogobius pflaumii was a carnivore which consumed mainly gammarid amphipods, polychaetes and gastropods. Its diets included minor quantities of cope pods, tanaids and crabs. It showed ontogenetic changes in feeding habits. Individuals of 1~2cm SL preyed heavily on gammarid amphipods. However, polychaetes and gastropods were selected with increasing fish size. Although gammarid amphipods, polychaetes, and gastropods were major prey organisms for all seasons, the relative proportion of these food items changed with season. Consumption of gammarid amphipods and polychaetes was relatively high in summer, and consumption of gastropods was relatively high in winter.

  • Feeding habits of Pseudoblennius percoides collected from the eelgrass bed in Dongdae Bay from January to December 2005 were studied. P. percoides was a carnivore which mainly consumed fishes and caridean shrimps. Its diets included small quantities of mysids, amphipods (gammarid amphipods and caprellid amphipods), copepods, cephalopods, polychaetes, and crabs. P. percoides undergoes significant size-related changes; smaller fish (<3.0 cm SL) prey mainly copepods, gammarid amphipods, and mysids while the proportion of caridean shrimps and fishes increases with fish size. Fishes and caridean shrimps were major prey organisms for all seasons. Dietary breadth of P. percoides was lower with fish size and seasons.

  • Diel changes in the feeding habits of Rudarius ercodes were investigated in an eelgrass bed of Jindong Bay, Korea. The main food components for R. ercodes (1.6~ 4.3 cm SL) were gammarid amphipods, eelgrass, polychaetes and urochordates. Most dietary items were inhabitants of an eelgrass bed. Diel variations in diet and feeding activity occurred. The diet of R. ercodes underwent changes from eelgrass and gammarid amphipods (omnivore) at day to mainly gammarid amphipods, polychaetes, and urochordates (carnivore) at night. Rudarius ercodes probably took detached eelgrass leaves and grazed live eelgrass during day, whereas feeding on gammarid amphipods, polychaetes, urochordates, and bivalves were facilitated by nocturnal movement and activity of these prey during night. The feeding activity of R. ercodes was also correlated with periods of high tides.
