  • The purpose of this study is to provide basic data on policy development using big data analysis and machine learning algorithms as part of preparing measures to prevent child abuse. In order to analyze big data for developing machine learning algorithms to prevent child abuse, frequency analysis, related word analysis, and emotional analysis were performed after defining academic databases and social network service data as big data. related words, and emotional analysis were conducted. As a result of the study, a preventive child abuse algorithm can be developed by preparing a data collection and sharing network system to prevent child abuse from the perspective of children affected by child abuse, perpetrators, and government authorities. Although it will be possible by institutionalizing infant self-esteem, depression, and anxiety tests with clues that depression and anxiety appear due to a decrease in self-concept in the characteristics of children affected by child abuse. We suggest that continuous progress of big data collection and analysis and algorithm development research to prevent child abuse, and expects that effective policies to prevent child abuse will be realized to eradicate child abuse crimes.

  • To achieve the dental health of children and adolescents which is the objective of the pediatric dentistry, the role of the public service should be increased. The basis of the public service is established by many laws of which the Dental Health Law is most important. The percentages of primary schools that had the school dental health clinic, that implemented the fluoride rinsing program, and that implemented the group toothbrushing after lunch were 7.2%, 57.5%, and 46.9%, respectively, and the percentages of primary school children that received the dental health education and that received the fissure sealing were 48.0% and 12.4%, respectively(2006). About 42% of infants and preschool children from 0 to 6 years received preventive dental care in the last one year, at the nursery or kindergarten(18%) or at the health center(1%)(2005). The percentage of the health centers that implemented water fluoridation was 11.3%, and the percentage of the population who drank the fluoridated water was 5.7%(2006). It was suggested that the school dental health administration should be unified, that dental health teachers should be employed, and that the comprehensive dental health care should be supplied to all the children and adolescents through the circuit school dentists and the school dental hospitals in the long term. Also, the dentist in charge system for the children and adolescent was suggested.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of case-based learning about infants and toddlers on healthcare department students, using a video in an emergency care environment. A total of 57 students from a healthcare department of D university in J city were enrolled. They were divided into two groups: The experimental group (n=29) and the control group (n=28). This study is pre-post designed with a non-equivalent control group. The experimental group received a 1-week education for a duration of 3 weeks (3 sessions in total) with 180 minutes per session. The control group received a traditional curriculum of lecture. Before and after the education, we measured the knowledge and skill confidence of emergency care toward infants and toddlers, the academic self-efficacy, and problem solving ability. Data collection and intervention were carried out from November to December of 2014. Data were analyzed with x2-test, paired t-test, unpaired t-test with SPSS version 20.0 Program. The experimental group showed a significantly higher improvement of skill confidence of emergency care toward infants and toddlers (P<001), as well as preferred task difficulty among sub-items of academic self-efficacy (p=.029), approach avoidance style (P=.001), and problem solving confidence (p=.040) among sub-items of problem solving ability on preference compared with the control group. In this study, a case-based learning was verified to be an effective teaching method to enhance professional competency of healthcare department students. The findings from this study suggest that a case-based learning using various educational contents should be developed, expanded, and carried out to promote better learning.

  • Considering that few studies had paid attention to the living characteristics and social environment surrounding amblyopes, the present study surveyed the parents of children aged 3 to 12 and diagnosed-with amblyopia to analyse the time when the children were first diagnosed-with amblyopia, the characteristics of their living environment and the socio-environmental factorsand to delve into correlations. For the purpose of this study, 104 parents of patients in 4 hospitals in Seoul, Gyeonggi and Incheon consented to participate in the survey from September 2 to November 23: 2013. As for the time when the children were first diagnosed with amblyopia: the age of 4 accounted for the highest percentage(28.8%). The older the parents were: the later the children were diagnosed with amblyopia (p<.01). The higher the education of parents, the earlier the diagnosis of amblyopia(p<.05). The present findings-will be conducive to decreasing the number of patients who have no choice but to live-with low vision for life by missing some timely visual acuity tests and ophthalmological examination and particularly to developing a social safety net that can realize national medical welfare for the low-income families and the socially disadvantaged class. With the help of information technology.

  • Recognizing the importance of early childhood education, the government is preparing measures at the national level, including expanding the scope of free education for infants, linking early childhood education to elementary schools, unifying the system in charge of early childhood education, printing the cost of operating a full-time system for double-income couples, and policies for low-income infants. In Korea's childcare policy, the need for childcare has increased due to the increase of free double-income couples, the increase of nuclear families, and the increase of divorce rates. Despite the overall increase in the child care budget, Korea's child care policy shows many problems in its efficiency due to the burden of childcare facilities and childcare fees for caregivers. After looking into the theoretical contents of the free childcare policy and the corresponding child care support policy, we would like to consider ways to improve the free childcare policy.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the availability of family-friendly systems for female workers with children under elementary school, and to verify that the availability of family-friendly systems can mitigate the negative effects of workplace-home conflicts on family and work-life satisfaction. To this end, data of 538 female employees with children younger than elementary school students were analyzed using the sixth data of the Korean Women Manager Panel. According to the analysis, the type of family-friendly system such as time flexibility system, career flexibility system, and worker support system all showed significant adjustment effect in relation to workplace-family conflict and work life satisfaction. The career flexibility system was the only one that showed a control effect on family life satisfaction. To help talented female workers work for their children without severing their careers, the government proposed active support for businesses and the government to help them use the family-friendly system.

  • The Integrated Center for Early Childhood Education and Care established 595 centers in 2013 that are integrated kindergarten and nursery centers. The Japanese government revised the law for the Center for Early Childhood Education and Care in 2012 and published the standards for equipment, management, and curriculum for early childhood education and care in April 2014. Presently the standards for equipment and management for integrated centers for early childhood education and care is based on a higher level than kindergarten and nursery centers. Therefore, the quality of education and care that the kindergarten and nursery centers are currently providing can be expected to continue. However childhood education and care curriculum is excessively emphasized education. Because infants and toddlers of 0-5years are spending most of the day in integrated centers for early childhood education and care, the contents related to childcare should be strengthened.

  • The purposes of this study are to develop spatial factors for children's libraries and fulfill the evaluation of importance of expert and user groups for it. So, this study developed spatial evaluation factors by analyzing materials of domestic/international groups and associations and precedent studies, drawing spatial factors and organizing them. Next, for the spatial factors developed to 12 evaluation areas and 127 detailed indexes, an importance was evaluated for 4 expert groups; children's librarians, people majoring in early childhood education, elementary school's librarians, people in charge of architecture, etc. and 3 groups; infants, elementary school's lower grades, elementary school's high grades, etc. The evaluation results are as follows. First, the expert groups approved an importance of indexes by evaluating all of the 12 evaluation areas and 120 indexes of 127 detailed indexes as more than 3.0. Second, the user groups also approved an importance of indexes by evaluating all of 12 evaluation areas and 125 detailed indexes of 127 detailed indexes as more than 3.0. Third, as the result of evaluating an importance between expert groups and user groups, there was a difference between two groups in 2 areas among the 12 evaluation areas.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study is to investigate the material in middle school and high school textbooks covering child care and children's health for medically inaccurate content and to make sure that the correct information is given to students. Methods : We have examined 47 kinds of textbooks on the subjects 'Home economics' and 'Technology and home economics' published in 2007 to find out how much importance is placed on children's health and childcare and to search for incorrect definitions, inaccurate facts or insufficient explanations. We have also analyzed the credentials of the writers of these textbooks. Results : Textbooks of middle school cover psychological and physical changes during adolescence and nutrition, and those of high school cover marriage and childcare. These materials covering health made up 27.5%, 11.7% of middle & high school texts. Age definitions of neonate and infant were incorrect. Inaccurate facts were mostly about fontanelles, primitive reflexes, breastfeeding and weaning. There also were wrong informations on the umbilical cord care and developmental milestones during infancy. The childhood immunization schedules and the growth curves were not up to date. Most of the authors major in home economics and the others were school teachers. There was no evidence of any review by a medical society or an expert. Conclusions : When writing about children's health and childcare in textbooks, a board-certified pediatrician or The Korean Pediatric Society should be consulted to provide accurate medical information to middle and high school students.

  • This study analyzed Korean children's books that include ethnically and racially diverse characters, focusing on representation of ethnic minority and cultural sensitivity. Drawing from fiction recommendations by Happy Morning Reading from 2005 to 2017, only 32 books out of 3,214 books, less than 1%, include people with racially and ethnically diverse background. Among the 32 books, 23 featured educative messages inspired by the belief of social justice; four could be categorized as so-called 'melting pot' books, five depicted stories featuring characters that respect different cultures from their own. The issue tackled in the stories differed with the economical standing of the character's country of origin. When a character or her/his parent is from a developing country, the main issues of the book were racial discrimination, bullying, hostility against foreign-born parents, or harsh experience of migrant workers. On the other hand, when a character or her/his parent is from a developed country, the plots often surround the character's hopes, wishes, or personal worries. Only one book was illustrated by a person with immigration background; the others were all written and illustrated by Koreans with no immigration background.
