Interaction Scale between Teachers and Infants for childcare Teachers(ISTI) was constructed based on the research data completed by the Bradley, Caldwell & Corwyn's IT-CC-Home and kinds of Interaction Scales with a participation Infants childcare teachers and Child Studies professor, Child Studuies doctoral course students. The results of this study were; First, the study found that the 29 items of the ISTI were categorized into four factors by 205 Infants for childcare teachers: Involvement, Variety, Responsivity, Permission. Second, these factors exhibited a high correlation interactively. Third, the ISTI showed a high correlation with teachers' performance scale. Further ISTI is a vaild and reliable scale for the measurement of Interaction Scale between Teachers and Infants for childcare Teachers.
The purpose of this study was to verify the influence of musical activities on social and emotional behavior of infants, through providing musical activities to the infants who were cared in a nursery and observing the interactions between peer group, or a therapist and an infant derived during them. The subject is 24 infants who are under 2 years of age(25~36months) at two nurseries located in Bundang area, and 13 infants among them are randomly assigned as study group and 11 infants as control group. Pretest and posttest about social and emotional behavior are performed, and ITSEA developed by Brggs-Gowan and Carter(2001) and amended by Shin Ji Yeon(2004) was used as an evaluation tool. Infants' changes of interaction behaviors during musical play were also analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively, and for the analysis, infant's social play behavior examination tool developed by Holloway and Reichhart-Erickson(1988) was adopted. Based on time sampling method, each item of this tool was evaluated. Each session was performed for 15 minutes, and 60 times of analysis about interactions per session was conducted at every 15 seconds. The analysis result was showed with a table and a graph, and described qualitatively about behavior changes. When compared social and emotional positive behavior average figures and negative behavior average figures between study group and control group, this study showed that the positive behavior figure of study group was increased and the negative behavior figure was decreased. While concentration and empathy among positive behaviors increased meaningfully, aggression, defiance, separation anxiety and rejection to new things among negative activities also decreased meaningfully. The conclusion of this study is as follows. First, interactions with peers or a therapist based on music and musical experience make an effect on strengthening positive behavior among social and emotional behavior and decreasing negative behavior. Second, music has influence on negative behaviors more than positive behaviors of an infant, and produces a good effect on sub behaviors of negative behaviors specially.
This study was aimed at developing a scale to evaluate Korean home environments for infants and toddlers for the purpose of being used by teachers caring for infants and toddlers. The subjects of this study were 250 mothers of 0- to 2-year-olds. Mean, SD, $x^2$, Cramer's V, factor analysis, Pearson correlations, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ were calculated in order to analyze the outcomes of this study. As a result, 38 items of the scale were found to be satisfactory in terms of item distribution and item discrimination. Four factors with 21 items were extracted from the factor analysis : 'developmental stimulus', 'responsivity', 'encouragement of verbal interaction', and 'arrangement of daily routines'. Our analysis of the correlation of this scale with SES, HOME, and children's developmental outcomes showed acceptable concurrent validity. Internal consistency of this scale was high. These results identify this scale as a valid and reliable measure of the Korean home environment for infants and toddlers.
In this study, authors investigated the attachment of toddlers to their mothers and teachers and overall development based on their gender differences. The subjects of the study are 80 toddlers who are 25~36 months, their mothers, and teachers. We analyzed our data using t-test and two way ANOVA, and the results are as follows. First, the groups categorized by the types of the attachment between the toddlers and the mothers and the gender difference demonstrated the developmental distinctions, respectively. The interactional effects of the two factors emerged in communication and basic living. Second, the groups categorized by the types of the attachment between the toddlers and the teachers and the gender difference demonstrated the developmental distinctions, respectively. The interactional effects of the two factors emerged in gross motor skills, fine motor skills, and cognition. Third, with respect to the types of multiple attachments to mothers and teachers, toddler development brought meaningful differences. We discussed the importances of the attachment of the toddlers and the role of teachers based on the results of our research and proposed future projects and suggestions.
The purpose of this study was to analyze toddlers' verbal and nonverbal interaction with their peers and caregivers according to the class size of child care centers in Seoul. The subjects of this study were 20, two-year-old(M=32.5 month) toddlers with peers and caregivers from child care centers in different class sizes, but with same caregiver-toddler ratio. Verbal and nonverbal interactions were videotaped during one hour indoor free play per child in the center. According to the class size, the results were as follows : 1) Toddlers in the small class played more cooperatively with peers, and uttered more regulative or directive words than those in the large class. 2) Toddlers in the large class were more aggressive than those in the small class. 3) Caregivers in small class expressed more empathetic behaviors to a toddler than those in large class.
This research was performed to examine the ratio of blindness to the child care environment and compare the evaluation of it among principals, teachers and mothers. Data were collected from questionnaires completed by respondents of this research were 37 principals, 37 teachers and 261 mothers of infants and toddlers at child care centers in Incheon, Korea. Cross tabulation, one-way ANOVA and Duncan's Multiple Range Test were utilized to analyze the data. In almost all of the items about the child care environment, mothers showed higher degrees of blindness than principals and teachers. In most of the items, mothers'evaluations were higher than those of principals and teachers. As a result, the researchers recognize a pressing need far programs far parents to improve the quality of child care.
The socio-emotional behaviors of 2-year-olds were examined by multiple attachments to mothers and child care providers in the context of home and child care centers. Participants were 100 children (mean age: 30.2 months), their mothers, and 27 child care providers. Attachment security was assessed with attachment Q-set. Children's social interaction with peers and teachers were rated every 10 seconds during 10 minute observation periods for 4 days, totaling40 minutes per child. Mothers and child care providers completed the Infant Toddler Socio-Emotional Assessment (ITSEA). Results showed that secure attachment relationships with child care providers partly compensated for insecure attachments with mothers at home. In the context of the child care center, secure attachments with child care providers were more important determinants of the development of socio-emotional behaviors than secure attachments with mothers.
This study investigated the difference between infant verbal and nonverbal interactions with a partner (teacher or peer). The subjects were 20 two-year-old infants 00 boys and 10 girls, mean age 31.3 months). Verbal and nonverbal interactions were videotaped during one hour of indoor free play per child in the Center. In verbal interaction, (1) boys spoke to themselves more than girls did, and (2) girls gave orders (imperatives, requests, and prohibitions) to peers and teachers more than boys did. In non-verbal interactions, (1) girls nodded to teachers more than boys did, (2) boys came closer to peers more than girls did, and (3) girls refused by gestures to peers more than boys did. In conclusion, the majority of the boys could be classified as peer-oriented and physically active in their interactions.
Objective: This study examined the correlation between variables influencing teacher sensitivity to infant classes in Educare Center teachers and teacher sensitivity, by classifying their personal psychological, socio-psychological, and work environment variables. Furthermore, it aimed to inquire the extent to which these variables influence teacher sensitivity. Methods: The study included 236 Educare Center teachers in charge of infant classes working in infant-caring facilities. Based on stepwise multiple regression analysis, a significance test was conducted for each variable. Results: Firstly, according to the correlations regarding teacher sensitivity to infant classes, for sensitive interaction, emotional stability showed significant positive correlation, while there were significant negative correlations with relationships with the director, colleagues, and parents; mean working hours in other places; and mean daily personal time. For insensitive interaction, there were significant negative correlations with emotional stability and mean daily break time, while there were significant positive correlations with relationships with the director, colleagues, and parents. Secondly, regarding the influences on teacher sensitivity to infant classes, for sensitive interaction, the most significant influences consisted in the relationships with colleagues and parents. On the other hand, for insensitive interaction, the most significant influences were the relationship with colleagues and emotional stability. Conclusion: Reducing interpersonal relationship stress and increasing the emotional stability of Educare Center teachers will increase their sensitivity level. Furthermore, the quality of care will be improved.
This study examined the relationship among supervision behaviors, self-efficacy, and job stress of childcare teachers for infants. This study also investigated whether the childcare teachers' supervision behaviors affected self-efficacy and job stress and whether their self-efficacy acted as a mediating effects on job stress and supervisory behaviors. The participants were 292 childcare teachers for infants in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The instruments utilized were the parent supervision attributes scale, Korean occupational stress scale, and teacher self-efficacy scale. The data analyzed by means of Pearson's correlation coefficients and hierarchical regression analysis. A hierarchical multiple regression analysis, Which Baron & Kenny first proposed, was conducted. The significance of the mediation effect was verified by the Sobel test. The results were as follows: First, the childcare teachers' supervision behaviors had a positive correlation with the teachers' self-efficacy, while the teachers' supervision behaviors and self-efficacy had a negative correlation with job stress. Second, job stress appeared to have a negative on supervision behaviors. Self-efficacy appeared to have a positive effect on supervision behaviors. Third, the mediating effect of self-efficacy was verified in the relationship between supervision behaviors and job stress. The more self-efficacy the childcare teachers had, the more supervision behaviors they performed. The greater their self-efficacy, the more the childcare teachers were able to control job stress. Therefore, by enhancing the self-efficacy of childcare teachers, their level of supervision behaviors should increase and their level of job stress should decrease.
