Deinterlacing Method for improving Motion Estimator based on multi arithmetic Architecture (다중연산구조기반의 고밀도 성능향상을 위한 움직임추정의 디인터레이싱 방법)

  • To improved the multi-resolution fast hierarchical motion estimation by using de-interlacing algorithm that is effective in term of both performance and VLSI implementation, is proposed so as to cover large search area field-based as well as frame based image processing in SoC design. In this paper, we have simulated a various picture mode M=2 or M=3. As a results, the proposed algorithm achieved the motion estimation performance PSNR compare with the full search block matching algorithm, the average performance degradation reached to -0.7dB, which did not affect on the subjective quality of reconstructed images at all. And acquiring the more desirable to adopt design SoC for the fast hierarchical motion estimation, we exploit foreground and background search algorithm (FBSA) base on the dual arithmetic processor element(DAPE). It is possible to estimate the large search area motion displacement using a half of number PE in general operation methods. And the proposed architecture of MHME improve the VLSI design hardware through the proposed FBSA structure with DAPE to remove the local memory. The proposed FBSA which use bit array processing in search area can improve structure as like multiple processor array unit(MPAU).

Design of UWB/WiFi Module based Wireless Transmission for Endoscopic Camera (UWB/WiFi 모듈 기반의 내시경 카메라용 무선전송 설계)

  • Ultra-wide-angle wireless endoscopes are demonstrated in this paper. The endoscope is composed of an ultra-wide-angle camera module and wireless transmission module. A lens unit with the ultra-wide FOV of 162 degrees is designed and manufactured. The lens, image sensor, and camera processor unit are packaged together in a $3{\times}3{\times}9-cm3$ case. The wireless transmission modules are implemented based on UWB- and WiFi-based platform, respectively. The UWB-based module can transmit HD video to a computer in resolution of $2048{\times}1536$ (QXGA) and the frame rate of 15 fps in MJPEG compression mode. The maximum data transfer rate reaches 41.2 Mbps. The FOV and the resolution of the endoscope is comparable to a medical-grade endoscope. The FOV and resolution is ~3X and 16X higher than that of a commercial high-performance WiFi endoscope, respectively. The WiFi-based module streams out video to a smart device with th maximum date transfer rate of 1.5 Mbps at the resolution of $640{\times}480$ (VGA) and the frame rate of 30 fps in MJPEG compression mode. The implemented components show the feasibility of cheap medical-grade wireless electronic endoscopes, which can be effectively used in u-healthcare, emergency treatment, home-healthcare, remote diagnosis, etc.

  • This paper is to introduce a lighting source controller using high brightness LED to create a clear and reliable condition for an accurate measurement and testing, which is a core technology in clinical image system and mechanical automation system. This controller is designed to supply a stable power in a constant-current system by installing a high brightness LED driver, and to improve the reproducibility of brightness by using 32-bit ARM processor core, dividing brightness quantity into 256 levels, making the remote control and the external interface possible, and preventing and digitizing the brightness inaccuracy caused by errors of resistance values. This controller enables the lighting range to be wide and possible in a low lighting level compared to analog, adds the RS-485 communication function, and makes it for the users to control the on-off function and the dimming level by receiving date from an external device.

  • In this paper, we propose a fingerprint verification algorithm for the embedded system based on the minutia extracted using the image quality, the minutia structure, and the Sequency and the orientation of ridges. After the pre- and the post-processing, the true minutia are selected, thus it shows high reliability in the fingerprint verification. In matching process, we consider the errors caused by shift, rotation, and pressure when acquiring the fingerprint image and reduce the matching time by applying a local matching instead of a full matching to select the reference pair. The proposed algorithm has been designed and verified in Arm920T environment and various techniques for the realtime process have been applied. Time taken from the fingerprint registration through out the matching is 0.541 second that is relevant for the realtime applications. The FRR (False Reject Rate) and FAR (False Accept Rate) show 0.079 and 0.00005 respectively.

  • Recently, the diverse needs of the drivers for in-vehicle infotainment systems are increasing rapidly. As a result, the infotainment systems are equipped with more convenient and human-friendly high-tech features. In this paper, we designed and implemented in-vehicle multimedia infotainment system based on embedded system that was applied various multimedia to in-vehicles. The proposed system can support independent display on each screen for the multi-channel multimedia source based on one processor(1 CPU). Therefore, our system can be reduced costs compared to other systems. This system not only displays the video and audio data in storage devices but also displays CAM, T-DMB, and DVB-T multimedia contents which are supplied in real-time services. Also, our system could multi-screen displays multimedia data in smart phone using Wi-Fi. We expect that in-vehicle infotainment systems like AVN(Audio video navigation) and RSE(Rear Seat Entertainment) could be used in various applications and reduced costs.

  • In this paper, we propose the hardware architecture of two-dimensional discrete wavelet transform (2D DWT) and quantization for using JPEG2000. Color 2-D DWT processor is proposed that is to apply to JPEG 2000 Hard-wired Encoder. JPEG 2000 DWT processor uses the Daubechies' (9,7) bi-orthogonal filter, and we design by minimizing error of the DWT transformer by ${\pm}1$ LSB during compression and decompression. We designed the DWT filters that using by using shift and adder structure instead of multiplier structure which raise the hardware complexity. It is improve the operation speed of filters and reduce the hardware complexity. The proposed system is designed by the hardware description language Verilog-HDL and verified by Synopsys Design Analyzer using TSMC 0.25${\mu}m$ ASIC library.

  • Projector-based visual systems are widely used for VR and experience display applications. But the illumination irregularity on the screen surface due to the screen material and its light reflection properties sometimes deteriorates the user experience. This phenomenon is particularly troublesome when the participants of the head tracking VR system such as CAVE or the motion generation experience system continually move around the system. One of reason to illumination irregularity is projector-screen specular reflection component to participant's eye's position and it's analysis needs high computation complexity. Similar to calculate specular lighting term using GPU's programmable shader, Our research adjusts every pixel's brightness in runtime with given 3D screen space model to reduce illumination irregularity. For doing that, Angle-based brightness compensate function are considered for specific screen installation and modified it for GPU-friendly compute and access. Two aspects are implemented, One is function access transformation from angular form to product and the other is piecewise linear interpolate approximation.

  • Catastrophic disasters are sprouting out recently, i.e., the radiation leaks and the hydrofluoric acid gas leaks, etc. The restoration work for these kinds of disasters is very harmful and dangerous for human beings to handle themselves, thus allowing manless robots to fly the reconnaissance planes over to the disaster stricken areas and do the necessary work instead. For this endeavor and purpose, we created and tested an intelligent robot that can inspect those areas, using Mbed (ARM processor) technology temperature sensors and gas sensors aided by CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) cameras. Also, HTTP Server, PC, androids and their combined efforts allow their remote controlled operation from far away with timing control. These intelligent robots can be on duty for 24 hours, minimizing the accidents and crimes and what not, and can respond more quickly when these misfortunes actually happen. We can anticipate the economic effects as well, derived from the reduced needs for hiring human resources.

  • The measuring systems of auto-parts are most of greater part very expensive. This paper tries to study to make a low-cost measuring equipment there's several kinds of parts in automobile. In this study, we take aircon-switch called magnet coil-housing as the object of measurements. The measurements of this product is currently in difficult situations at factory. In the case of the mesuring objects being big sizes and camera sensor having under 410000 pixels, the key point is the number of pixels not to be changed whenever the same object is measured under the same position. We modified and used fuzzy c-means algorithm to get mostly without the change of the numbers of pixels exactly. Also, the standardized ruler is necessary to measure the length of the object but it is not easy to get the precised ruler. Therefore, the standard length has been taken as the mean value of the pixels in the previous passed objects manually obtained at factory. The results are displayed on monitor and transferred these signals to the microprocessor through RSC-232 port to determine a good or bad of products.

  • Recently, ubiquitous sensor network(USN) techniques have been applied to electric power facility management. This paper dealt with the designed and fabricated ubiquitous sensors which monitor transformers and lightning arresters installed in overhead distribution systems. The sensors consist of a 8-[bit] microprocessor unit, a wireless communication nodule specified in IEEE 802.15.4, and associated electronics. A Rogowski coil was fabricated to measure load of transformer and surge current without saturation having good linearity up to 1000[A]. A zero-phase current transformer with a high relative permeability of $10^5$ at 180[Hz] was used to detect small leakage current of $50[{\mu}A]{\sim}1[mA]$ flowing lightning arrester, and the frequency bandwidth of the module is ranges from 12[Hz] to 1.24[kHz] at -3[dB].
