The examination using diagnostic x-ray equipment is one of the most useful diagnostic equipment for identifying information in the human body in diagnostic radiology. For this reason, the number of examinations has recently increased a lot. Increasing the number of examinations will accelerate the aging of the device. In addition, this makes them aware of the importance of quality control for the diagnostic x-ray device. Particularly, in a diagnostic x-ray device, quality control refers to an act of always maintaining a certain level of image quality by identifying and correcting all problems that may lead to reduction of the diagnosis area in advance. Therefore, this study summarizes and reports general information about quality control in examinations using diagnostic x-ray equipment.

With the increase in the number of cases of silicone implant insertion either for cosmetic surgery or breast reconstruction after mastectomy, it is not unusual to encounter patients with silicone implants in clinical settings. Recently, the first case of breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma was reported in Korea. In addition to previously known complications, such as implant rupture or contracture, the number of implant-associated imaging examinations has also increased. Considering this background, radiologists should have sufficient knowledge about the type of examination required in patients who have undergone implant insertion and imaging findings to correctly identify implant-associated complications. In this article, various complications of silicone implants are discussed, including various imaging findings, which radiologists should know.

Purpose This study aimed to determine the incremental value of using a structured report (SR) for US examinations of the pediatric appendix. Materials and Methods Between January 2009 and June 2016, 1150 pediatric patients with suspected appendicitis who underwent US examinations of the appendix were included retrospectively. In November 2012, we developed a five-point scale SR for appendix US examinations. The patients were divided into two groups according to the form of the US report: free-text or SR. The primary clinical outcomes were compared between the two groups, including the rate of CT imaging following US examinations, the negative appendectomy rate (NAR), and the appendiceal perforation rate (PR). Results In total, 550 patients were included in the free-text group and 600 patients in the SR group. The rate of additional CT examinations decreased by 5.3% in the SR group (8.2%, p = 0.003), and the NAR decreased by 8.4% in the SR group (7.8%, p = 0.028). There was no statistical difference in the appendiceal PR (37.6% vs. 48.0%, p = 0.078). Conclusion The use of an SR to evaluate US examinations for suspected pediatric appendicitis results in lower CT use and fewer negative appendectomies without an increase in appendiceal PR.
Ultrasonography is effective for imaging superficial organs, such as the scrotum. Using a highfrequency transducer, ultrasonography can identify the location and characteristics of scrotal lesions with high accuracy. The primary role of ultrasound (US) in the evaluation of a scrotal mass is to determine if it is intratesticular or extratesticular. Additional clinical information and other imaging options may be needed to diagnose benign tumors and pseudo-tumors. MRI is an effective problem-solving tool in cases with nondiagnostic US findings. CT is helpful for staging testicular cancer and localizing undescended testis. This review covers the imaging features of testicular and extratesticular tumors.

This study proposes a new skull lateral examination, and provides an improved examination environment for patients and radiologists. The study was divided into three groups. One group was divided into the SID (source to image receptor distance) 110 ㎝ and 180 ㎝ in the skull lateral posture, the other group The other group was divided into an position in contact with the detector and an position without contact with the detector, and the other group was divided into male and female groups, considering that the difference in shoulder width between adult males and females would affect the dose and image quality. For dose evaluation, the ESD (entrance surface dose) was measured at the EAM (external auditory meatus), and the conditions were applied equally at 70 ㎸p, 200 ㎃, and 10 ㎃s. For image quality evaluation, SNR (signal to noise ratio) and CNR (contrast to noise ratio) were measured in frontal sinus, EAM, and sella turcica. As a result of ESD comparison, when sid 110 ㎝ to sid 180 ㎝ was changed among the three groups, ESD values decreased the most to 729.18±4.62 μ㏉ and 224.18±0.74 μ㏉ at 180 ㎝ (p<0.01). The values of SNR and CNR were statistically significant (p<0.01), but there was no qualitative difference. This shows that when the SID is 180 ㎝, it is possible to reduce the dose without lowering the image quality. So, It is suggested that the SID 180 ㎝ is used without contacting the detector when examining the skull lateral.

Jaundice in children have various etiologies. Among them, physiological jaundice is a very common disease observed in more than half of full-term neonates. When jaundice persists or develops after 2 weeks of age, the total/direct bilirubin is measured in consideration of the possibility of cholestasis. In case of cholestasis, imaging studies differentiate biliary atresia and other disorders of the extrahepatic bile ducts. In this review, we briefly presented the major differential diseases of cholestasis in children and introduced diagnostic imaging techniques, including normal findings.

The Kasai portoenterostomy is the first-line treatment for the restoration of the flow of bile to the small intestine in patients with biliary atresia. Various complications can occur after Kasai portoenterostomy, including ascending cholangitis, biliary cirrhosis, and portal hypertension. Of these potential complications, ascending cholangitis in the most common. In cases of patients having uncontrolled complications due to progressive liver cirrhosis, portal hypertension, or progressive hyperbilirubinemia, liver transplantation is the indicated as treatment plan. Lifelong follow-up, particularly involving imaging studies, is important for the identification of various complications arising from biliary atresia after Kasai portoenterostomy. Additionally, imaging studies play a crucial role in the evaluation of potential liver donors and recipients. US is a key imaging modality utilized in the management of patients who undergo Kasai portoenterostomy, while CT and MRI are imperative to obtaining an accurate diagnosis.
Vasculitis is a systemic disease, characterized by inflammation of the vascular wall. Although rare, it is sometimes life-threatening due to diffuse pulmonary hemorrhage or acute glomerulonephritis. Besides primary vasculitis, whose cause is unknown, numerous conditions such as autoimmune diseases, drugs, infections, and tumors can cause secondary vasculitis. Vasculitis displays various non-specific symptoms, signs, and laboratory findings; hence, diagnosis of the disease requires integration of various results including clinical features, imaging findings, autoantibody tests, and pathological findings. In this review, we have discussed the clinical, radiologic, and pathological features of vasculitis. Further, we elaborated the imaging findings and differential diagnosis of typical vasculitis that frequently involves the lung and introduced a new international classification of vasculitis, the Diagnostic and Classification Criteria in Vasculitis.

MRI plays a crucial role in bone marrow (BM) assessment, and has very high sensitivity in diagnosing marrow disorders. However, for radiologists who may not frequently encounter pediatric imaging, distinguishing pathologic BM lesion from normal BM can be challenging. Conditions involving the BM in pediatric patients, such as leukemia and metastatic neuroblastoma, often manifest with diverse musculoskeletal symptoms and may be diagnosed using musculoskeletal MRI examinations. Accurate interpretation of pediatric MRI requires not only an understanding of the normal composition of BM but also an awareness of age-related developmental changes in the marrow and familiarity with conditions that commonly involve pediatric BM. We aim to describe the composition of normal BM and outline the normal and abnormal MRI findings in pediatric BM. Additionally, we aim to present clinical cases of malignant BM disorders including leukemia, neuroblastoma metastasis, and other malignant BM disorders.
