Halloysite nanotubes (HNTs), the multiwalled clay mineral with the composition of Al2Si2O5(OH)4·nH2O, have been highlighted as a low-cost adsorbent for the removal of dyes from wastewater. Although a powder of halloysite presents a high specific surface area, forming media are significantly considered due to sludge-clogging induced by the water-bound agglomeration. However, higher firing temperature to achieve the structural durability of the media and lower utilization rate due to longer penetration depth into the media act as hurdles to increase the dye-adsorption capacity. In this work, the retention of the adsorption capacity of halloysite was evaluated with methylene blue solution after the heat treatment at 750 ℃. In order to improve the utilization rate, tubular media were fabricated by extrusion. The images taken by transmission electron microscopy show that HNTs present excellent structural stability under heat treatment. The HNTs also provide superb capacity retention for MB adsorption (93%, 18.5 mg g-1), while the diatomite and Magnesol® XL show 22% (7.65 mg g-1) and 6% (11.7 mg g-1), respectively. Additionally, compositing with lignin enhances adsorption capacity, and the heat treatment under the hydrogen atmosphere accelerates the adsorption in the early stage. Compared to the rod-type, the tubular halloysite media rapidly increases methylene blue adsorption capacity.
In this study, adsorption characteristics of coconut shell-based granular activated carbon (CS-GAC) on Basic Blue 3 (BB3) were evaluated. As the dosage of CS-GAC increased, the removal efficiency of BB3 tended to increase and the initial dye concentration of 50 mg/L was completely removed at 0.2 g dosage. Adsorption equilibrium achieved within 270 and 420 min at the initial concentrations of 25 and 50 mg/L, respectively, and the experimental data were represented by the pseudo-second-order model. The maximum uptakes ($q_{max}$) predicted by the Langmuir model were 34.45, 46.63 and 53.10 mg/g at 298, 308 and 318 K, respectively. The $q_{max}$ value increased as the temperature increased. Also, the Gibbs free energy (${\Delta}G$) was changed to -7.37, -8.19 and -10.40 kJ/mol with increasing temperature. The enthalpy change (${\Delta}H$) and the entropy change (${\Delta}S$) were 34.47 kJ/mol and 0.15 J/mol K, respectively. Therefore adsorption of BB3 by CS-GAC was spontaneous and endothermic.

Chemically functionalized plant oils, namely maleinized acrylated epoxidized soybean oil(MAESO), were used as a new bio based binders for photoelectrodes of dye-sensitized solar cells. The photocatalysts were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscope(FE-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer(EDS), X-ray diffraction(XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) and nitrogen adsorption analyses. The surface area and number of appropriate pores were increased in the $TiO_{2}$ particles prepared using the plant oil binders in comparison with the P-25 photocatalyst, due to the larger number of functionalities. The functional groups of OH on the surface of the $TiO_{2}$ particles increased from 9.9% to 16.62%.
This study was carried out to treat the aqueous solutions containing reactive dyes(RB19, RR120 and RY179) by the Ozone demand flask method and adsorption process using activated carbon fiber(ACF) which are one of the main pollutants in dye wastewater. Ozone oxidation of three kinds of the reactive dyes was examined to investigate the reactivity of dyes with ozone, competition reaction and ozone utilization on various conditions for single- and multi-solute dye solution. Concentration of dyes was decreased continuously with increasing ozone dosage in the single-solute dye solutions. Competition quotient values were calculated to investigate the preferential oxidation of individual dyes in multi-solute dye solutions. Competition quotients(CQi) and values of the overall utilization efficiency, ${\eta}O_3$, were increased at 40mg/l of ozone dosage in multi-solute dye solutions. ACF(A-15) has much larger specific surface area$(1,584m^2/g-ACF)$ in comparison with granular activated carbon adsorbent (F400, $1,125m^2/g-GAC$), which is commonly used, and most of pores were found to be micropores with pore radius of 2nm and below. It was found that RB19 was most easily adsorbed among the dyes in this study. In the case of PCP (p-chlorophenol) and sucrose, which are single component adsorbate, adsorption capacities of ACF(A-15) were in good agreement with the batch adsorption measurement, and saturation time predicted of ACF columns for these components was also well agreed with practically measured time. But in the case of reactive dyes, which have relatively high molecular weight and aggregated with multi-components, adsorption capacities or saturation time predicted were not agreed with practically measured values.

In this study, the photocatalytic degradation of rhodamine B (RhB), methyl orange (MO) and methylene blue (MB) was carried out under visible light irradiation using CdS and CdZnS/ZnO photocatalysts prepared by a simple precipitation method. This study focused on examining the effect of physicochemical properties of dye and photocatalyst on the reaction pathway of photocatalytic degradation. The prepared photocatalysts were characterized by XRD, UV-vis DRS and XPS. Both the CdS and CdZnS/ZnO photocatalysts exhibit an excellent absorption in the visible light and the UV light regions. It was observed that the photocatalytic degradation of MO proceeds via the same reaction mechanism on both the CdS and CdZnS/ZnO photocatalysts. However, the photocatalytic degradation of RhB and MB was found to proceed through a different reaction pathway on the CdS and CdZnS/ZnO catalysts. It is interesting to note that MB dimer was formed on the CdS catalyst at the beginning of the photocatalytic reaction, while the MB monomer was degraded during the overall photocatalytic reaction on CdZnS/ZnO. The above results may be mainly ascribed to the difference of band edge potential of the conduction band in the CdS and CdZnS/ZnO semiconductors and the adsorption property of dye on the catalysts.
In order to develop a dye coloring technology on Conchiolin layer in cultured pearls, appropriate dyes were selected, their solubilities in various solvents were studied, and adsorption and desorption experiments were performed. Solubilities of several basic dyes known to suitable for the pearl coloring, i.e., Rhodamine 6G(R6), Rhodamine B(RB) and Methylene Blue(MB), in several solvents (distilled water, methanol, ethanol, and acetone) were investigated. Among these dyes, R6 was chosen as a dye for single component adsorption and desorption experiment due to the relatively good solubility in various solvents tested. Solubilities of dyes were judged to be enough to color the pearls since dye concentrations in pearl coloring are, in general, not so high. The internal surface area of the pearl layer is believed to be directly related to the dye adsorption, the single-point internal surface area of the pearl layer measured at the nitrogen relative pressure of 0.3 was found to be $0.913m^2/g$, and the BET internal surface area, $1.01m^2/g$ The most probable diameters of micropores and macropores were found to be $40{\AA}$and $5000{\AA}$ respectively, from the pore size distribution data. Adsorption isotherm was well fitted to the Langmuir isotherm model, resulting in q=$\frac{1.62C}{1+1.09C^{.}}$

In this paper, it is investigated the characteristics of DSSC(Dye Sensitized Solar Cell) with cell area(0.25, 1, 2.25 $cm^2$) and dye absorption time(12, 24, 36 h). Thus, we obtain the following results by using the EIS, UV-VIS, I-V measurement. When the cell area increases, the efficiency decreases to 21~32 percent because of the increase about 40~$60{\Omega}$ of internal impedance regardless of dye absorption time. When the absorption time increases up to 24 hours, the efficiency increases to over 40 percent cause of the reduction of internal impedance regardless of cell area. When the dye absorption time becomes 36 hours, the internal impedance increases and at the same time, in the range of 600~700 nm, as the optical absorption reduces. Therefore, the efficiency decreases to 19~31 percent. When it is absorbed the dye for 24 hours in the smallest cell area which is 0.25 $cm^2$, the DSSC has the best efficiency (7.11 %).
The adsorption behavior of Eosin Y on activated carbon (AC) in batch system was investigated. The adsorption isotherm could be well fitted by the Langmuir adsorption equation. The kinetics of adsorption followed the pseudo-second-order model. The temperature variation was used to evaluate the values of free energy (${\Delta}G^{\circ}$), enthalpy (${\Delta}H^{\circ}$) and entropy (${\Delta}S^{\circ}$). The positive value of enthalpy change ${\Delta}H^{\circ}$ for the process confirms the endothermic nature of the process and more favourable at higher temperature, the positive entropy of adsorption ${\Delta}S^{\circ}$ reflects the affinity of the AC material toward Eosin Y and the negative free energy values ${\Delta}G^{\circ}$ indicate that the adsorption process is spontaneous. With the increase of the amount of AC, removal efficiency of Eosin Y was increased, but adsorption capacity was decreased. And adsorption capacity was increased with the decrease of particle size. With the increase of the amount of AC, removal efficiency of Eosin Y was increased, but adsorption capacity was decreased. And adsorption capacity was increased with the decrease of particle size.

Cotton fabric was treated with Cationon UK(tertiary ammonium salt) to improve the dyeability to black tea colorants. In order to investigate the efficacy of Cationon UK for improving dyeing properties of cotton fabric, the effect of Cationon UK treatment conditions and dyeing conditions on dye uptake of the cotton fabrics treated with Cationon UK were examined and the colorfastness to washing, perspiration, rubbing and light was also evaluated for practical uses. Cationized cotton treated with Cationon UK showed high dye uptake at lower dyeing concentration and shorter dyeing time, compared with untreated. Dyeing temperature did not affect significantly dye uptake and the maximum dye uptake was obtained at pH 5. Most colorfastness was relatively good, showing 4/5∼5 rating.
Transition-metal oxide semiconductors have various band gaps. Therefore, many studies have been conducted in various application fields. Among these, methods for the adsorption of organic dyes and utilization of photocatalytic properties have been developed using various metal oxides. In this study, the adsorption and photocatalytic effects of $WO_3$ nanomaterials prepared by hydrothermal synthesis are investigated, with citric acid added in the hydrothermal process as a structure-directing agent. The nanostructures of $WO_3$ are studied using transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy images. The crystal structure is investigated using X-ray diffraction patterns, and the changes in the dye concentrations adsorbed on $WO_3$ nanorods are measured with a UV-visible absorption spectrophotometer based on Beer-Lambert's law. The methylene blue (MB) dye solution is subjected to acid or base conditions to monitor the change in the maximum adsorption amount in relation to the pH. The maximum adsorption capacity is observed at pH 3. In addition to the dye adsorption, UV irradiation is carried out to investigate the decomposition of the MB dye as a result of photocatalytic effects. Significant photocatalytic properties are observed and compared with the adsorption effects for dye removal.
