A Study on the Combustion Characteristics of the Small Scale Cyclone Incinerate System for Sludge (슬러지용 소형 사이클론 소각 시스템의 연소특성에 대한 연구)

  • The performance of the small scale cyclone incinerate system (100kg/hr) to process the sewage sludge containing high moisture is evaluated. The incinerate system design is based on properties of the domestic sewage sludge. The combustion characteristics of the incinerate system is tested and analyzed with the various operation conditions of the moisture level, the sludge feed rate and the auxiliary fuel feed rate. The pressure loss of the whole system is appeared relatively small of 700mmAq under the normal operating condition and the temperature distribution of the incinerator internal combustion is maintained less than 1000C. Auxiliary fuel of 4.7 1/hr is required to incinerate 100kg sludge which include 87% moisture. Because the inside temperature of the incinerator is maintained less than $1000^{\circ}C$, it is predicted that the most NOx measured is produced not from the heat during the combustion process but from the oxidation of the N ingredient in the sludge. From the component analysis of ash, the organic matter is not entirely detected. Accordingly, it is estimated that the complete combustion has been accomplished in the incinerator.

  • In the case of cubesat, a PCB-based deployable solar panel advantageous in terms of weight reduction and electrical circuit design is widely used considering the limited weight and volume of satellites. However, because of the low thermal conductivity of PCB, there is a limit relative to heat dissipation. In this paper, the thermal gap pad is applied to the contact between the PCB-based solar panel and the aluminum stiffener mounted on the outside of the panel. Thus, the heat transfer from the solar cell to the rear side of the panel is facilitated. It maximizes the heat dissipation performance while maintaining the merits of PCB panel, and thus, it is possible to improve the power generation efficiency from reducing the temperature of the solar cell. The effectiveness of the thermal design of the 6U cubesat's deployable solar panel using the thermal gap pad has been verified through on-orbit thermal analysis based on the results, compared with the conventional PCB-based solar panel.

  • Composite materials are substances that are configured to have excellent physical properties by combining the properties of a single substance, and are in the limelight as materials that exceed the performance of metals and polymers. However, it has the disadvantages of long cycle time and high unit price, and much research is being performed to overcome these disadvantages. In this study, we developed an epoxy resin curing agent that can shorten the time required for mass production of composite materials, and tried to expand the applicability of objections by imparting flame retardancy. The epoxy resin used as a basic substance utilized two types of bisphenol F and resorcinol structure, which was further modified using 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenantrene-10-oxide (DOPO) to impart flame retardancy. Triethylphosphate (TEP) and bis [(5-ethyl-2-methyl-1,3,2-dioxaphosphorinan-5-yl)methyl] methyl phosphonate P,P'-dioxide (FR-001) were used as additives, seven kinds of compositions were blended, thermal characteristics (gelation time, glass transition temperature) and flame retardant performance were evaluated. We successfully developed an epoxy matrix that can be applied to high pressure resin transfer molding (HP-RTM) process.

Thermoreflectance Microscopy for Thermal Analysis of Electronics (전자소자 열분석을 위한 열반사 현미경 기술)

  • With the advent of technologies based on big data, the trend of electronics towards high performance and high integration density continues. However, this development of electronics suffers from overheating issues, which seriously threaten the reliability of the devices. To develop effective strategies for thermal management, it is crucial to accurately evaluate the temperature distribution and design the heat dissipation path within the device in the operating condition. This paper introduces thermoreflectance microscopy that can observe the temperature distribution of a device with high spatial and temporal resolutions in a non-contact way. Specifically, the working principle and various forms of thermoreflectance microscopy are presented along with the latest research trends to improve the temperature, space, and time resolutions. We further review several examples in which thermoreflectance microscopy is applied to investigate the temperature and thermal characteristics of electronic devices.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the thermal safety for dry transport of a shipping cask. Analysis condition was based on an ambient temperature of 38$^{\circ}C$ for normal heat condition. The cask was designed to carry 4PWR spent fuel assemblies with a burnup of 38,000 MWD/MTU and 3 years of cooling time. Thermal analysis was carried out by using the COBRA-SFS code. The fuel cavity was considered to be filled with air, nitrogen or helium gas for dry transport. The results of analysis showed that the maximum temperatures of fuel rod cladding in air and helium cavity would be 277$^{\circ}C$ and 226$^{\circ}C$, respectively, for 3 years of cooling time. These values were less than the specified temperature to maintain the thermal integrity of fuel assembly for dry transport.

  • Wearing face masks is an effective measure to prevent COVID-19 infection. Infrared thermal image based temperature measurement and identity recognition system has been widely used in many large enterprises and universities in China, so it is totally necessary to research the face mask detection of thermal infrared imaging. Recently introduced MTCNN (Multi-task Cascaded Convolutional Networks)presents a conceptually simple, flexible, general framework for instance segmentation of objects. In this paper, we propose an algorithm for efficiently searching objects of images, while creating a segmentation of heat generation part for an instance which is a heating element in a heat sensed image acquired from a thermal infrared camera. This method called a mask MTCNN is an algorithm that extends MTCNN by adding a branch for predicting an object mask in parallel with an existing branch for recognition of a bounding box. It is easy to generalize the R-CNN to other tasks. In this paper, we proposed an infrared image detection algorithm based on R-CNN and detect heating elements which can not be distinguished by RGB images.

Computational Simulation of Lightning Strike on Aircraft and Design of Lightning Protection System (항공기 낙뢰 전산 시뮬레이션 및 보호시스템 설계)

  • The safety of aircraft can be threatened by environmental factors, such as icing, turbulence, and lightning strike. Due to its adverse effects on aircraft structure and electronic components of aircraft, lightning strike is one of the biggest hazards on aircraft safety. Lightning strike can inject high voltage electric current to the aircraft, which may generate strong magnetic field and extreme hot spots, leading to severe damage of structure or other equipment in aircraft. In this work, mechanism of lightning strike and associated direct and indirect effects of lightning on aircraft were studied. First, on the basis of aircraft lightning regulations provided by Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP), we considered different lightning waveform and zones of an aircraft. A coupled thermal-electrical computational model of ABAQUS was then used for simulating flow of heat and electric current caused by a lightning strike. A study on fuel tank, with and without lightning protection system, was also conducted using the computational model. Finally, electric current flow on two full scale airframes was analyzed using the EMA3D code.

  • 복잡한 전자부품의 조립시에 필요한 열적 디자인에 관한 정보는 오래전부터 실험을 통하여 얻어지고 있다. 실험적 데이터를 이용하여 무차원 파라미터로 표시된 실험결과는 꼭 같지는 않지만 현상적으로는 비슷한 상황에 응용될 수 있다. 여기서는 학술문헌에 나타나 있는 자연대류에 관한 실험적인 상관관계식들과 프레임에 수직으로 꽂혀있는 균일가열 전자회로기판의 모델에서 얻어진 무차원 자료들을 비교하고자 한다. 대부분의 자료들은 수정채널 Rayleigh수(Ra")가 15~100범위에 속하며, 이러한 범위는 부품이 조밀하게 배치된 기관이 서로 좁은 채널을 이루고 있으며, 동시에 상당한 전력을 소비하고 있는 경우에 해당한다. Wirt와 Stutzman, Bar-Cohen과 Rohsenow의 일반상관관계식은 AT'||'&'||'T Bell 연구소에서 개발된 전자기기를 이용하여 수집한 실험데이터를 잘 표현하고 있으며 10 < Ra" <1,000범위에서 추천될 수 있다. 두개의 유사한 상관관계식과 비교할 때 상당히 좋은 예측을 보였으며 또한 Sparrow와 Gregg의 연구결과와도 잘 일치하므로 Ra" < 10인 경우에 Aung의 완전발달층류의 채널유동방식, Ra" > 1,000인 경우에는 Aung등의 단일 수직평판 근사식이 추천될 수 있다.   • Cryogenic LNG(Liquefied Natural Gas) which is stored in the cylindrical storage tanks of $100,000m^3$ has very complex flow phenomena and the changes of thermal properties with exterior conditions and operation modes. These complex thermofluid behaviors are affected by the storage, exterior conditions of LNG, design specifications and heat transfer characteristics of tanks. Also, those have influence on the stable storage and supply of LNG in the storage tanks. Thus this study peformed the analysis on the 2-D heat transfer of the tank with exterior conditions, on the Cool Down Process in order to cool down the LNG Storage Tank at the initial normal state, and on the Filling Process considered for incoming and rising of LNG. The analysis on the Mixing LNG Storage was studied too. At last, the visualized program on the complex thermofluidodynamic analysis was developed on the basis of the above analyses. The development of this program becomes to be used to the basic design of the commercial tanks as well as to assure technical skill of the analysis on the thermal stability of the stored LNG in the LNG Storage Tank.

A Study on the Fault Analysis of the Voltage Controller for the Combat Vehicle Generator (전투차량 발전기용 전압조정기 내열성 향상을 위한 고장분석 연구)

  • In this study, we investigated the cause of a voltage controller failure that occurred in the operation of a combat vehicle and attempted to establish a solution for the failure. The failure in the voltage controller was found to be related to thermal resistance, which could be identified by disassembly analysis and a high temperature operation test. Especially, in the disassembly analysis, there was damage caused by high temperature such as soot on the molding material and cracking of the resisters. In addition, in the high temperature operation test, the test results show that the internal temperature of the voltage controller was relatively higher than the external temperature. This means that the voltage controller failure could be attributed to the excessive heat and insufficient thermal resistance. In order to improve the thermal resistance of the voltage controller, several designs with changing circuits and structures were devised. Improvement of thermal resistance was verified by measuring reduction of internal temperatures in the high temperature comparison test.
