Evaluation of Ductility Factors for MDOF Systems in Special Steel Moment Resisting Frames (철골 연성 모멘트 골조에 대한 다자유도 시스템의 연성계수 평가)

  • Ductiluty factor has played an important role in seismic design as it is key component of response modification factor(R). In this stuty, ductility factors() are calculated by multiplying ductility factor for SDOF systems() and MDOF modification factors(). Ductility factors() for SDOF systems are computed from nonlinear dynamic analysis undergoing different level of displacement ductiluty demands and period when subjected to a large number of recorded earthquake ground motions. The MDOF modification factors() are proposed to account for the MDOF systems, based on previous studies. A total of 108 prototype steel frames are designed to investigate the ductility factors considering the number of stories(4, 8 and 16-stories), framing system(Perimeter Frames, PF and Distributed Frames, DF), failure mechanism(Strong-Column Weak-Beam, SCWB and Weak-Column Strong-Beam, WCSB), soil profiles(SA, SC and SE in UBC 1997) and seismic zone factors(Z=0.075, 0.2 and 0.4 in UBC 1997). It is shown that the number of stories, failure mechanisms (SCWB, WCSB), and soil profiles have great influence on the ductility factors, however, the structural system(Perimeter frames, Distributed frames), and seismic zones have no influence on the ductility factors.

Analysis of Structural and Thermal Parameters for Evaluating Fire Resistance of Steel Beams (철골보의 내화시간 평가를 위한 구조 및 열적 변수해석)

  • This paper proposes a versatile formula which can be used to evaluate the fire resistant time of steel beams under various design conditions. Towards this end, the key parameters which affect the fire performance of steel beams were first determined through thermo-mechanical considerations, and classified into two groups: structural parameters and thermal parameters. Then the degree of influence of each parameter on the fire performance was investigated through a fully coupled thermo-mechanical analysis up to the occurrence of run-away deflection. The accuracy of the numerical model used was verified using an available full-scale fire test before conducting an extensive parametric analysis. Multiple linear regression analysis was performed to obtain the formula which can be used to predict the fire resistance time of steel beams under various design conditions. The statistical analysis showed that the proposed formula is very robust. The application of the formula in practical fire design under the current code was illustrated in detail. The economy and other advantages of the proposed formula were clearly shown.

Elastic Interactive Shear Buckling Behavior of Trapezoidally Corrugated Steel Webs (제형파형강판 복부판의 탄성 연성전단좌굴 거동)

  • Corrugated webs have been used for composite prestressed concrete box girder bridges. Innovative steel plate girders using corrugated webs have been proposed. It has been found that analytical and experimental researches conducted to determine the strength of trapezoidally corrugated webs can fail with respect to three different buckling modes: local, global, and interactive shear buckling. Shear buckling capacity equations based on classical and orthotropic plate buckling theories have been proposed,but these equations show some differences. In this paper, geometric parameters that influence interactive shear buckling behavior with interaction effects are identified via extensive bifurcation buckling analysis using the finite element meth.

  • 대공간 구조물과 초고층 빌딩에 있어 건축물의 자중 감소에 대한 요구가 늘어나고 있으며 이에 대한 가장 효과적인 방법 중 하나는 경량 콘크리트를 사용하는 것이다. 본 연구는 최외단 철근의 순인장 변형률에 따른 경량콘크리트 보의 휨 거동 및 휨 성능을 평가하는 것에 그 목적이 있다. 크기와 형상이 동일한 보통중량 콘크리트 보 1개와 경량 콘크리트 보 4개의 총 5개 시험체를 제작하여 최외단 철근의 순인장 변형률을 변수로 실험을 수행하였으며 이를 통해 순인장 변형률에 따른 경량콘크리트 보의 강도와 연성의 변화를 분석하였다. 실험 결과 최외단 철근의 순인장 변형률이 증가할수록 시험체의 연성비는 증가하였으며 최대하중과 강성은 감소하였다. 특히 순인장 변형률 0.005 이상에서 연성지수 2 이상을 확보할 수 있었다.

Parametric Study on the tendency of Stiffness Variation using Variable Stiffness Mechanism (변수변화에 따른 가변강성 메커니즘의 강성변화 경향성에 관한 연구)

  • In general, a system can be stable when it is designed with a rigid material. However, the use of a rigid system can be limited, such as grasping a glass or using a small surgical instrument. To resolve this limitation, a variable stiffness mechanism was developed using a flexible material. Previous research verified the variable stiffness mechanism where flexible segments and rigid segments were connected alternately in series. However, research into the design parameters of the variable stiffness structure is needed to satisfy the desired stiffness. Therefore, a variable stiffness structure was tested by varying the design parameters to confirm the trend of the stiffness variation. When the radius of the structure becomes larger, the stiffness increases. The stiffness increased with decreasing length of the flexible segments. Under the same design parameters, the length of the flexible segments had a greater effect on the stiffness than the length of the rigid segments. In addition, the stiffness was estimated using the pseudo rigid body model and was compared with the experimental results. This parametric study can be used as a design guideline for designing the variable stiffness mechanism to satisfy the desired stiffness.

FE Analysis on the Structural Behavior of the Single-Leaf Blast-Resistant Door According to Design Parameter Variation (설계변수에 따른 편개형 방폭문의 구조거동 유한요소해석)

  • Steel-concrete single-leaf blast-resistant doors are protective structures consisting of a steel box and reinforced concrete slab. By the domestic blast-resistant doors, the structure is not designed efficiently because few studies have examined the effects of variables, such as the blast pressure, rebar ratio, and steel plate thickness on the structural behavior. In this study, the structural behavior of the doors was analyzed using the FE method, and the support rotation and ductility ratio used to classify the structural performance were reviewed. The results showed that the deflection changes more significantly when the plate thickness increases than when the rebar spacing is a variable. This is because the strain energy absorbed by the door is reduced considerably when the plate thickness increases, and as a result, the maximum deflection becomes smaller. According to a comparison of the calculated values of the support rotation and the ductility ratio, the structural performance of the doors could be classified based on the support rotation of one degree and ductility ratio of three. On the other hand, more explosion tests and analytical studies will be needed to classify the damage level.

A Parameter Study of Internally Confined Hollow Reinforced Concrete Piers (내부 구속 중공 RC 교각의 매개변수 연구)

  • The hollow RC(Reinforced concrete) pier has the merit of lightweight pier compared with solid RC pier. However, the hollow RC pier shows a low ductile behavior due to brittle failure of inside concrete. To overcome this problem, the internally confined hollow reinforced concrete column has been developed. In this study, the behavior of internally confined hollow RC piers were evaluated with safety ratio, ductility, total material cost, the total weight of the pier, etc. The chosen parameters for the study are hollow ratio, thickness of internal steel tube, intervals between vertical re-bars, numbers of horizontal re-bars, and strength of concrete. As a result of parameters study, the usage of a minimum necessary thickness of the internal steel tube is the most effective.

Topology Design Optimization of Nonlinear Thermo-elastic Structures (비선형 열탄성 연성구조의 위상 최적설계)

  • In this paper, we have derived a continuum-based adjoint design sensitivity of general performance functionals with respect to Young' modulus and heat conduction coefficient for steady-state nonlinear thermoelastic problems. An adjoint equation for temperature and displacement fields is defined for the efficient computation of the coupled field design sensitivity. Through numerical examples, we investigated the mesh dependency of the topology optimization method in the thermoelastic problems. Also, comparing the dominant loading cases of thermal and mechanical ones, the loading dependency of topology design optimization in coupled multi-physics problems is investigated.

Ductility Capacity for Concrete Filled Steel Circular Tubes Reinforced by Carbon Fiber Sheets(CFSs) (탄소섬유쉬트로 보강된 콘크리트충전 원형강관기둥의 연성능력)

  • This paper presents the experiment results for a CFT column confined by carbon fiber sheets(CFSs) under an axial load. Nine specimens were constructed and axial compression tests were conducted. The main experiment parameters were diameter-thickness ratio(D/t), reinforcing CFSa, and the attachment of a cushion gap between surface of steel tube and CFSs. The load-displacement curves of the specimens were obtained from the compression tests. Finally, it was concluded that the CFT column with a gap had grater ductility capacity improvement that the CFT column confined by CFSs.

An Experimental Study on the Structural Behavior of Reinforced Concrete Beam with External Adhesion of CFRP Grid (격자형 탄소섬유강화플라스틱의 외부부착 보강에 따른 철근 콘크리트 보의 구조적 거동에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • The study presents the ductility reinforcement effect of the RC bending member using the CFRP Grid as an experimental result. Experimental variables include a non-reinforced RC bending member (ORI), a bottom reinforced RC bending member (REB), and an RC bending member reinforced at the bottom and side (REBS). The experiment was carried out with four points bending test. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the maximum bending strength increased by 17-20% through reinforcement. In addition, the ductility index calculation results confirmed that the ductility index of REB and REBS increased by 2 and 3 times, respectively, compared to the ORI.
