Development of an Expert System for Optimizing Die and Mold Polishing-II (금형면 자동 다듬질 전문가 시스템 개발에 관한 연구-II-통합 연마 파라미터를 사용한 최적 가공 구현 및 전문가 시스템 구축-)

  • To reduce the cost and increase reliability of die and mold products, automation of the finishing (polishing) process is essential. A major element of automation is a reliable database and a knowledge base for polishing status. This paper presents a polishing expert system which can determine optimal polishing sequences and conditions by using an empirical formula and an experimental database. The simplex method was used for the curve fittings of the experimental results. Also a graphical user interface, which visualizes the optimized results, was developed.

  • 일반적으로는 지립의 작용으로 연마가 진행되기 때문에 기계적인 미세 절삭이 주된 작용을 하고 이 작용에 화학적인 작용이나 국부적인 유동 작용이 복잡하게 더해지는 것으로 생각된다. 그러나 이 연마 메커니즘의 상세한 내용에 대해서는 해명이 시도되고 있지만 불명료한 점이 많은 게 사실이다. 이 때문에 복잡한 연마 메커니즘을 기본으로 설명을 진행하는 것보다 여기에서는 연마의 몇 가지 파라미터 중 연마 공구의 크기에 주목해 비교적 큰 연마 공구(가공물 지름과 같거나 그 이상)를 이용하는 연마 가공 방식과 비교적 작은 연마 공구(가공물 지름의 1/3 이하 정도)를 이용하는 연마 가공 방식으로 크게 나누어 광학 유리의 경면 연마에 관해 개략적으로 설명하겠다. 또 이 밖에 최근 과학 유리의 경면 연마나 연마 이외의 가공에 대해서도 개략적으로 설명하겠다.

  • This paper presents the system modeling, analysis, and controller design and implementation with a inverted pendulum system in order to test robust algorithm for sweeping machine. The balancing of an inverted pendulum by moving pendulum robot like as 'segway' along a horizontal track is a classic problem in the area of control. This paper will describe two methods to swing a pendulum attached to a cart from an initial downwards position to an upright position and maintain that state. The results of real experiment show that the proposed control system has superior performance for following a reference command at certain initial conditions.

  • This study verified the relationship between fracture mechanics parameters and X-ray parameters for normalized SS41 steel with homogeneous crystal structure and M.E.F. dual phase steel(martensite encapsulated islands of ferrite). The fatigue crack propagation test were carried out and X-ray diffraction technique was applied to fatigue fractured surface. The change in X-ray parameters(residual stress, half-value breadth) according to the depth of fatigue fractured surface were investigated. The depth of maximum plastic zone, $w_y$, were determined on the basis of the distribution of the half-value breadth for normalized SS41 steel and that of the residual stress for M.E.F. dual phase steel. $K_{max}$ could be estimated by the measurement of $w_y$.

  • Although polishing process take 30-50% of whole process of manufacturing die and mold it has not been fully automat-ed yet. Considering current trend of manufacturing it is necessary to study on polishing automation. To accomplish automation reliable database must be developed. For developing it polishing mechanism should be defined and a general empirical formula that can be applied widely should be created. In this paper it is found that polishing process must be separated into 2 process such as removing cusp and getting fine surface process and the polishing parameter which is com-posed of major machining parameters and normalization of data can be applied efficiently in making reliable database.

  • This paper describes the development of new sweeping machine based on Cyclone Technology, which maintains constant suction power and uses it in a industrial applications as a method for dust removed from grinding work. The performance of a cyclone separator is determined by the turbulence characteristics and particle-particle interaction. To achieve this goal, we design cyclone technology based dust separator for sweeping machine has been proposed as a system which is suitable to work utilizing dust suction alternative to conventional manual system. and Numerical analysis with computational fluid dynamics(CFD) was carried out to investigate the working fluid that flow into cyclone dust separator in order to design optimal structure of the sweeping machine. The validation of cyclone model with CFD is carried out by comparing with experimental results.

  • A monitoring system is necessary to make the polishing process more reliable in order to ensure the high quality and performance of the final products. Generally, AE (Acoustic Emission) is known to be closely related to the material removal rate (MRR). As the surface becomes rougher, the MRR and AE increase. Therefore, the surface roughness can be indirectly estimated using the AE signal measured during the polishing. In this study, an AE sensor-based monitoring system was fabricated to detect the very small AE signal resulting from the friction between a tool and a workpiece during polishing. The performance of this monitoring system was estimated according to polishing conditions, the relation between the level of the AE RMS and the surface roughness during the polishing was investigated.

Immersion Corrosion Characteristic of SUS420J2 Steel with a Material for Fish Pre-Processing Machinery (어류 전처리 가공기계용 재료 SUS420J2강의 침지부식 특성)

  • 13%Cr martensitic stainless steel has been used mainly with a material for fish pre-processing machinery. However, it has not very nice cutting section because of little of the carbon content. Therefore, SUS420J2 steel that contents 0.3%C with high-strength in spite of the rust is used with a material for fish pre-processing machinery. However, studies on the corrosion characteristics of SUS420J2 steel are relatively rare. Especially, the corrosion phenomenon may cause serious degradation because the fish pre-processing machinery is exposed always to seawater environment. In this paper, the immersion corrosion test was carried out at seawater environment (pH=7.52) on SUS420J2 steel specimens that have various post-treatment conditions and its corrosion characteristics were evaluated. From test results, the specimens such as base metal, vacuum heat treatment, electrolytic polishing and tempering after quenching tend somewhat sensitive from the corrosion. In the case of vacuum heat treatment specimen of continuous immersion during 360 days, the weight loss ratio was high about seven times when compared with the different specimens. On the contrary, SUS420J2 steel specimen that has the heat treatment of tempering after quenching and the electrolytic polishing was less sensitive from the corrosion, and the weight loss ratio was very low.

Electrochemical and Optical Studies on the Passivation of Nickel (니켈의 부동화에 관한 전기화학적 및 광학적 연구)

  • The technique of combined-measurement of reflectance and ellipsometric parameters was used for studying the anodic film formed on nickel surface in basic solutions. An ellipsometer was automated for transient measurements by way of modulating the plane-polarized light with the Faraday effect. Surface film was formed electrochemically by applying a potential step from the reduction potential range to the passivation range on a polished, high-purity, polycrystalline nickel specimen. From that instant, the changes in the reflectance(r) and the ellipsometric parameters(${\Delta},{\Psi}$) of the surface film were recorded by the automatic ellipsometer. Three exact simultaneous equations including these optical signals, ${\Delta},{\Psi}$ and r were solved numerically with a computer in order to determine the optical properties, n, k, and the thickness, ${\tau}$, of the surface film. From the computed results which showed dependence on pH and time, it was found that passivation of nickel can be effectively attained by surface film thinner than $15{\AA}$ and this passivation film has a small optical absorption coefficient. It seemed that a high pH environment enhances the rate of passivation and is favorable for a denser structure of the surface film. The experimental evidence is in accordance with the hypothesis that the composition of the passive film can be approximated by $Ni(OH)_2$ in the early stage of passivation and that as time passes the composition changes partially toward that of NiO through dehydration.

  • The power tools is the product using working power generated by electric motor. Many companies are manufacturing numerous devices. Main features of tools are included various assembled products, small, light and solid and durable enough to match several standards. Fundamental requirements for the product is excellent performance and convenience for use. The quality of them depends on the equipped motor'(s) capability, accuracy of gear and endurance against worn-out. By adapting the state-of-the-art parts, they could be used in the place from home to heavy industry broadly. They can be classified electronic drills, grinders, saws and sanders families for the household appliances. For industrial tools, bore drill, grinder, polisher, and driver drill are classified as special and high priced group. This study presents the strategy of power tool development of BOSCH, BLACK&DECKER and KEYANG. Their products were analyzed in terms of product line and product mix concept. Then they are examined by design elements, such as color, shape and material for housing. As an analysis method, the image scale parameter and criteria were applied to each company's product.
