  • The aim of this study was to suggest the System Architecture for Effective Architectural MEP Pipe Reverse Design(PRD) based on the Point Cloud and derive the consideration. To do this, the requirement and use-cases related to the MEP pipe reverse design work were defined and the architecture for the reverse design automation was proposed. To identify a consideration for finding the architecture issues, a prototype was developed using the architecture and evaluated.

  • An efficient inverse design method based on the MGM(Modified Garabedian-McFadden) method has been developed. The 2-D Navier-Stokes equations are solved for obtaining the surface pressure distributions and coupled with the MGM method to perform the inverse design. The MGM method is a residual-correction technique, in which the residuals are the difference between the desired and the computed pressure distribution. The developed code was applied to several airfoil shapes and the propeller. It has been found that they are well converged to their targeting shapes.

  • A new and efficient inverse design method based on the numerical optimization technique has been developed. The 2-D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations are solved for obtaining the objective functions and coupled with the optimization procedure to perform the inverse design. The steepest descent and the conjugate gradient method have been applied to find the searching direction. The golden section method was applied to compute the design variable intervals. It has been found that the airfoil and the pump impellers are well converged to their targeting shapes.

  • An efficient inverse design technique based on the MGM (Modified Garabedian-McFadden) method has been developed. The 2-D Navier-Stokes equations are solved for obtaining the surface pressure distributions and coupled with the MGM method to perform the inverse design. The solver is parallelized by using the domain decomposition method and the standard MPI library for communications between the processors. The MGM method is a residual-correction technique, in which the residuals are the difference between the desired and the computed pressure distribution. The developed code was applied to several airfoil shapes and the axial blade. It has been found that they are well converged to their target pressure distribution.

  • In this study, a reverse design of the F-theta lens was proposed for a 2D scanner in remote welding applications. The curvature and distance of the lens were set as variables, and the focal length of the lens was set as the marginal ray height. The ZEMAX commercial software was used to perform a simulation with unlimited iterations for the optimization process. The target value was optimized using the internal Merit function with the weight factors of focal length and spot diameter. The number of lenses was four, and the focal length obtained from the results was 135mm that is slightly less than that of the commercial lens, which is set with a focal length of 185 mm. The calculated spot diameters are $1.3{\mu}m$, $6.2{\mu}m$, and $16.1{\mu}m$ for $0^{\circ}$, $12.5^{\circ}$ and $23^{\circ}$ of incident laser beam, respectively. It is expected that an optimized lens design is possible by performing the reverse design of a lens by the ray tracing method.

  • Effective three dimensional modeling becomes essential in a wide range of drawings, such as construction, machinery and design. In particular, it has been developed as the tool enabling reverse design. Three dimensional modeling requires rapidity, accuracy and tangibility. Data acquisition methods for modeling including contact type coordinate measurement machine, LASER scanner, pattern scanner and digital photogrammetry. In this study, we try to analyze modeling techniques as well as introduce three dimensional modeling using pattern scanner. In addition, this study conducts three dimensional modeling using OPTO-Top pattern scanner with distinguished accuracy and rapidity, and then compare efficiency with digital photogrammetry. And, this study attempts to form environment that enables to turn around models on web in three dimensional ways.

  • The present paper describes the optimum inverse design of 2-D linear cascade airfoil. The pressure coefficient of an airfoil surface is taken as the objective function, and non-orthogonal incompressible Navier-Stokes equation is applied to calculate the pressure coefficient. Both of steepest descent and conjugate gradient method have been used to make the objective function go to zero. The 1st order finite differential method is applied to the searching direction and the golden section method is used to compute the searching distance. As a result of the present work, a good convergence to the target airfoil has been obtained.

  • Recent extreme weather events and natural disasters are causing rapid aging of the ancient structures with cultural value. It has threatened the safety and management. The construction design documents are not kept for such long time. Even if they are, they seem to be mismatched with the design structures due to corrosive effects. For these reasons, Korea has been facing difficulties in maintenance, reengineering and safety evaluation. In this study, three dimensional point cloud surface of bobsleigh is obtained using 3D LiDAR scanner. The obtained structure is compared with the original design and found to be highly accurate. The study shows the application of reverse engineering technique and its potential use for other civil structures.
