  • Non-destructive technique to measure internal structure and constant distribution of material can be widely used to exploration of mineral resources, identification of underground cables and buried pipelines, and diagnostic imaging in medical area. In this paper, we considered 2-dimensional EM scattering problem. Radiation pattern in far field is estimated by using some measured information obtained from near-field solutions.

  • This research is about the inherent optical properties(IOPs) of algae which is collected from Nam-Hae for basic research of red tide remote sensing technique development. 21 kinds of red tide organisms were cultivated to investigate IOPs of them in the level of laboratory, and specific absorption coefficient of phytoplankton($a^*$) and backscattering coefficient of phytoplankton(${b_b}^*$) are estimated by using spectrophotometer. Absorption spectrums according to species appeared to range from 0.005 to 0.06 ($m^2{\cdot}mg^{-1}$), and the shapes of spectrums were also different. The range of ${b_b}^*$ appeared to be $10^{-2}{\sim}10^{-4}\;m^2{\cdot}mg^{-1}$, which had about 100 times differences between species, and the shape of spectrum have significant difference between species. These results will input as a remote sensing reflectance model input parameter from ocean color.

  • For inverse scattering problems reconstructing cross-sectional permittivity distributions of dielectric cylinders, the angular spectral inverse technique using the moment method with pulse basis function suffers from large reconstruction error even if very small noise due to requiring the higher spectral informations on the larger cross-section of the cylinder. To reduce the number of higher-order spectra, this paper presents an improved inverse technique in angular spectral domain applying the moment procedure with a series-expansion basis function for the induced field in each enlarged cross-sectional cell. By choosing adequate spectra and averaging over the enlarged cells with a suitable weighting function, the reconstruction profiles reveal fine enough to suppress the noise effect significantly.

  • The nonuniqueness of solutions to inverse scattering problems for the reconstruction of cross sectional permitivity distributions on dielectric cylinder is illustrated in view of numerical analysis based on the spectral inverse scattering scheme with the moment-method procedures. It is also shown that some additional treatmenents such as multiple measurements, various incidences, etc. are not effective to assure the uniqueness.

  • A method of reflection-transmission type ultrasonic inverse scattering image was presented using linearly arrayed transducers in inner surface of half-cylinder. In this method, to reduce the number of data, the mirror effect using a reflector behind object and pulse wave with finite frequency band, To verify the proposed method, a computer simulation was performed for organic phantom specimen, As the results. it was verified that the reconstructed image was satisfactory even when the limitation view angle was limited to around 30 deg.

  • In the beam pattern synthesis problem using line source, the relationship between source distribution function and beam pattern may be represented by Fourier transform pair. In this paper, a general method to synthesize the line source distribution for a desired lobe-like beam pattern is presented by developing the nonlinear inversion method based on an iterative sampling technique. This method can be applied to the synthesis of continuously distributed dielectric constants satisfying the desired inverse scattering coefficient patterns when illuminating by TE-polarized and TM-polarized plane waves to arbitrary dielectric material. Furthermore this method can also be applied to the synthesis of transmission line with arbitrary reflection coefficient patterns. Some bandstop spatial filter and dispersive transmission line filter are illustrated for generality.

  • A new design method of the microwave multisection impedance transformer is proposed. This method is based on the inverse scattering theory using the frequency domain reflection coefficient of the transformer to be designed. In the first step, the permittivity profile of a virtual one-dimensional dielectric medium is reconstructed using the desired reflection coefficient. In the second step, the transformer which is equivalent to the reconstructed dielectric medium in view of reflection characteristics is synthesized. Theoretically, this method can be used to design the impedance matching transformers with arbitrary passband characteristics within the limit of the Bode-Fano criteria[1]. Our approach is examined for two design examples to show that it is valid.

  • Several dielectric pipes buried in the lossy half space are reconstructed from the scattered fields measured along the interface between the air and the lossy ground. Iterative inversion method by using the hybrid optimization algorithm combining the genetic and the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm enables us to find the positions, the sizes, and the medium parameters such as the permittivities and the conductivities of the buried pipes as well as those of the background lossy half space even when the dielectric pipes are close together. Illposedness of the inversion caused by the errors in the measured scattered fields are regularized by filtering the evanescent modes of the scattered fields out.
