  • Previous research in leisure motivation has been limited in terms of its overwhelming interest in beneficial outcomes of leisure activities, its short of coverage on wide range of modern leisure activities, and its lack of cultural perspectives. In order to overcome those limitations, the present research conducted a survey in which motives to participate in 48 leisure activities and frequency and importance of the activities were assessed. We categorized 7 categories of leisure activities (skill-involved, social, personal hobby, goal-oriented, relaxing, digital, and voluntary) and 7 categories of leisure motives (achievement, intimacy, psychological comfort, sensation-seeking, secondary, self-promoting, and no-fun). On the basis of the categorizations, momentary leisure motives and individual differences of the leisure motives were conceptualized and tested as a preceding factor of selection of leisure activities. This conceptualization was discussed in its practical implication of leisure education, consulting, and policy.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide basic information on leisure participation and leisure exploration of community-dwelling stroke patients through a multi-dimensional leisure participation evaluation tool. As a result of study, the most involved leisure activities were in order of watching TV, communicating, and exercise alone. Most of the satisfaction level of leisure participation was 7-10 points, but exercise alone was 5.2 points due to the purpose of health management. Leisure exploration was the most frequent exercise alone and sports, and interest was 8-10 points. • The purpose of this study is to analyze leisure satisfaction and leisure performance according to whether elderly people are performing their preferred leisure activities. For the analysis, we used sample from the 6th (2015) panal data as Korean Retirement and Income Study(KReIS). The results of this study were as follows. First, the total data of 4,197 elderly (2,212 young-old and 1,985 old-old) were analyzed. As a result, weekday and weekend leisure time of the old-old (7.64 hours / 7.81 hours) than the young-old (6.83 hour / 7.39 hour) was increased and resting activites (over 70% of watching TV and listening to the radio) accounted for more than 80% of the both elderly leisure activities. Leisure performance were higher in old-old who did not perform preferred leisure activities during weekdays. Leisure performance on weekends was higher in old-old regardless of whether they had preferred leisure time. Average of leisure performance was high in both groups and they responded leisure satisfaction was moderate. In the case of need for leisure change, young-old was higher than oid-old regardless of preference leisure performance and day of the week. However, the responses of the both groups are closed to those that do not want to change. Based on the results of this study, it should be practiced such as develomenting program and introduction of health management system considering leisure constraints to improve leisure satisfaction and continuance of leisure activities for young-old and old-old. We also emphasize the need for a systematic survey scale that takes into account the qualitative aspects of leisure activities as well as the subjective factors influencing leisure participation.

The social leisure activity shows more clear and positive purpose and more higher quality of life than private leisure. But it also has limited time and require more money. Elderly chronic stroke presents passive and limited leisure activity and shows low satisfaction about leisure. But the leisures that needed more physical movements show higher quality of life. So leisure activity program which is able to support and assist the limited body function will be helpful to increase the quality of life of elderly chronic stroke.

  • The 5 day workweek has become widespread, and more recently, the 40 hour workweek is planned to be implemented to the Korean industry by the government by 2012. It is possible that in the future, we may begin to complain about too much leisure, rather than too much work. There is a need then, for types options in leisure activity, brought about by personal choices and interests. The use of leisure time is a very personal matter. It is deeply related to types with the quality of life. Bagozzi (1981) developed a model discerning among attitude, intention and activity, that attitude affects behavioral intention, and behavioral intention affects activity. So, as behavioral activity has a deep relationship to behavioral intention, participation intention according to leisure types leads to participation in leisure activity. Sports activity and hobby and cultural activity appear to have high participation and it seems that this is reflected in behavioral attitude. Among the types of leisure satisfaction, sport activity satisfaction is associated with a more positive attitude to leisure than other types. With respect to background variables for attitude toward leisure according to leisure satisfaction, the biggest differences in attitude toward leisure were associated with sports activity.
