The Longitudinal Effect of Leisure on Happiness and Health in Midlife (중년기 여가생활이 행복과 건강에 미치는 영향에 대한 종단 연구)

  • Leisure is an important role on happiness and health in midlife. Nevertheless, there has been little research using a longitudinal method in Korea to identify the influence of leisure on happiness and health. Current study examined the effect of leisure satisfaction and time for leisure activities on happiness(SHS) and health-related variables(psychological symptoms, physical symptoms, and quality of sleep) in middle aged adults(40-65 years) by longitudinal data. Two surveys were conducted with 10 months' interval and total 145 respondents(M=49.45) participated in both surveys. Hierarchical regression analysis was employed to investigate that both leisure satisfaction and time for leisure activities in the first time have an effect on happiness and health-related variables in the second time after controlling for each happiness and health variables in the first time as well as demographic variables. We found that leisure satisfaction influenced beneficially on happiness(SHS), psychological symptoms, and quality of sleep after 10-month. Similarly, time for leisure activities had effect on happiness(SHS), psychological symptoms, and physical symptoms after 10-month. The implication for study were discussed.

  • 최근 여유로운 삶을 추구하는 사람들이 늘어나면서 여가생활, 문화생활에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 그러나 사용자의 정해진 일정 사이의 자투리 시간에 즐길 수 있는 문화콘텐츠를 찾기 위해서는 일일이 공연, 전시, 관람 등의 일정을 확인해야 하는데, 이 일이 번거로워 문화생활을 즐기는 것을 포기하는 경우가 많다. 본 논문에서는 문화데이터 API를 활용하여 사용자의 일정에 맞춰 이용할 수 있는 문화데이터를 추천해주는 캘린더의 개발내용에 대하여 기술한다. 본 캘린더를 활용함으로써 사용자들이 자투리시간을 이용하여 문화생활을 즐길 수 있고, 다양한 문화생활을 즐기면서 여가시간을 보다 효율적으로 사용할 수 있다.

The Relationship between Bodyguard Leisure Types and Attitude toward Leisure (경호.경비요원의 여가 유형과 여가 태도의 관계)

  • The 5 day workweek has become widespread, and more recently, the 40 hour workweek is planned to be implemented to the Korean industry by the government by 2012. It is possible that in the future, we may begin to complain about too much leisure, rather than too much work. There is a need then, for types options in leisure activity, brought about by personal choices and interests. The use of leisure time is a very personal matter. It is deeply related to types with the quality of life. Bagozzi (1981) developed a model discerning among attitude, intention and activity, that attitude affects behavioral intention, and behavioral intention affects activity. So, as behavioral activity has a deep relationship to behavioral intention, participation intention according to leisure types leads to participation in leisure activity. Sports activity and hobby and cultural activity appear to have high participation and it seems that this is reflected in behavioral attitude. Among the types of leisure satisfaction, sport activity satisfaction is associated with a more positive attitude to leisure than other types. With respect to background variables for attitude toward leisure according to leisure satisfaction, the biggest differences in attitude toward leisure were associated with sports activity.

Relationship between Leisure Constraints, Participation in Sports for All and Subjective Happiness among Private Guards (민간경비원의 여가제약과 생활체육 참가 및 주관적 행복감의 관계)

  • This study is to examine the relationship between leisure constraints, participation in Sports for All and subjective happiness among private guards. To attain the goal of the study described above paragraphs, private guards held in Seoul were set as a collected group. Then, using cluster random sampling method, finally drewout and analyzed 193 peoples in total. The result of reliability analysis check up was here below; Chronbach's ${\alpha}=\;.725$. The conclusion drawn from this study is as follows: First, leisure constraints influences on the participation experience in Sports for All. Second, leisure constraints influences on the participation degree in Sports for All. The increase of leisure constraints in peripheral aspects results in the decrease of participation term of Sports for All. And the increase of leisure constraints in individual, peripheral aspects results in of participation intensity in Sports for All. Third, leisure constraints influences on subjective happiness. Fourth, leisure constraints results in the retributive effect on participation in Sports for All and subjective happiness. Namely, leisure constraints results in the indirect effect on subjective happiness through the participation in Sports for All is an important variable intermediating the relationship between leisure constraints and subjective happiness.

Analysis of Factors Affecting Travel Time Change Using the Time Use Survey Data in Seoul (서울시 통행시간 변화의 요인분석: 생활시간조사자료를 중심으로)

  • Changes in the life style might vary trip purposes, ultimately leading to the change in the travel behavior. Therefore, this study analyzed the factors affecting travel time change by using the time use survey data in Seoul, surveyed by the Statistics Korea in 1999~2014. We developed multiple linear regression models for travel time, considering individual, household and time-related variables as independent variables. The models were separately estimated weekday and weekend. the model results show that the household, individual, and time related variables have an significant effect on the travel time. In addition, travel time is more influenced by individual characteristics thn household ones. Each activity time positively affects the travel time, indicating that travel is derived demand. The variable that have the greatest influence on the travel time is the activity time for leisure.

The Impact of Introduction of Five-day School Week on Adolescents' Time Use (주 5일 수업제 도입이 청소년의 시간사용에 미치는 영향)

  • This paper examines the impacts of introducing Five-day school week in South Korean on adolescents' time use. Exploiting the exogenous variation in the adolescents' time at school on Saturday, I estimate the causal effect of change of adolescents' discretion time on their time use. The main findings are as follows. The introduction of the five day school week increased the adolescents' discretion time and their time spent on sleeping, passive leisure(mainly watching television). A one-minute decrease in the adolescents' time at school increase their sleeping time by 0.46 minute and passive leisure time by 0.26 minute.

The Sixth-Grade Students' Conceptions of a Scientist's Time Use (초등학교 6학년생들의 과학자의 생활시간에 대한 인식)

  • This article aims to (a) investigate children's images of a scientist's life style by comparing children's drawings about a scientist's schedule with those about a company employee's schedule in a weekday and on Sunday; and (b) examine the usefulness of 'Drawing A Scientist's Schedule (DASS)' test as a new instrument of learners' conceptions of a scientist and his/her work. To do those, thirty sixth- grade children participated in this study. The children, 15 boys and 15 girls, were selected from a classroom of an elementary school located in Gongju city. The children's drawings were analyzed in conjunction with individual interviews. The interviews facilitated the clarification of any ambiguous attributes of the drawings by questioning after their completion. Several significant conclusions can be drawn from this work: First, the children conceived that a scientist has more mandatory time, and less necessary and leisure time than does a company employee. Interestingly, many children thought that a scientist has similar life style on Sunday to that in a weekday, unlike a company employee. Second, in case of necessary time use in a weekday and on Sunday, the difference between a scientist and a company employee results from their sleeping time. Also, the children showed more various conceptions of a scientist's sleeping time than those of a company employee's sleeping time. Third, in case of mandatory time use, the children conceived that a scientist spends more time for his/her occupational work and less time for his/her housework activities than does a company employee. Fourth, the children's drawings showed that there is difference between a scientist's and a company employee's leisure time use and activities. Finally, the DASS test indicated its possibility and usefulness as an instrument for investigating learners' images on a scientist and his/her work. The instrument exhibited several distinctive children's conceptions that is difficult in identifying by using the DAST, a popular instrument.

An Analysis of the Using Pattern of Leisure Time for Elderly (노인의 여가생활시간 소비패턴분석)

  • This study analyze using pattern of the Korean elderly leisure time to know their leisure lifestyle. In order to do this study, we analysed the time use dairy which were collected by Korean National Statistical Office in 1999 and analysis of data was done through mean of time, percentage of acting people hourly. The result of this study were as follows : 1) The elderly spend leisure time average 6 hours 34 minute in a day and enjoy leisure activities from A.M. 11:00 to P.M. 12:00 and from P.M. 8:00 to P.M:. 10:00 mainly. 2) The elderly spend leisure time for acquaintance, using mass media, sports leisure activity and dilettante life. Especially the elderly associate with more others than their family, use more TV than others and spend time for break and amusement as dilettante life.
