Techno-economic Evaluation of an Ethanol Production Process for Biomass Waste (바이오매스 폐기물의 에탄올 생산 공정의 기술경제성 평가)

  • Extensive efforts from all over the world have been made to solve energy problems, such as high oil prices, global warning due to the depletion of oil. Among them, biofuel has been drawing attention as a clean energy, which can replace fossil fuels. However, conventional biofuels were often converted from eatable biomass such as sugar cane, corn and soy which should be replaced with uneatable biomass. In this study, a techno-economical evaluation of the gasification of biomass waste with mixed alcohol synthesis process was performed. Considering available domestic biomass wastes, a 2000 ton/day conversion plant were assumed to produce 533000 L/day ethanol. Also, financial data from previous studies were evaluated and used and economical sensitivities with various operation conditions were established. Economic analysis were conducted by the payback period and internal rate of return (IRR) and net present value (NPV). Sensitivity analyses of raw material costs, initial investment, the major process cost, ethanol price changes and operating costs were all performed.

  • 최근 화석 연료의 과다 사용에 따른 에너지 자원 고갈 및 환경오염에 대한 우려가 증가함에 따라 비화석연료 기반의 재생가능하고 지속가능하며, 환경친화성이 높은 에너지에 대한 관심이 급증하고 있다. 농산폐기물, 폐목재, 에너지작물, 도시고형폐기물, 미세조류, 거대조류 등 육상 및 해상에서 발생하는 바이오매스는 재생가능한 에너지원으로서 화석원료와는 달리 사용 후 발생하는 이산화탄소를 다시 흡수하는 탄소중립(carbon-nutral)의 특성을 갖고 있어 전세계적으로 많은 주목을 받고 있다. 바이오연료 중 당질계원료를 이용하는 바이오에탄올 및 식물성유지를 이용하는 바이오디젤은 현재 상업적인 생산이 이루어지고 있으나, 이들 1세대 바이오연료는 식량자원과의 경쟁이라는 원천적인 한계를 가지고 있고, 분자구조식에 산소를 포함하고 있기 때문에 기존 화석원료에서 출발하는 가솔린, 항공유 및 디젤과 비교하였을 때 에너지 함량이 낮은 단점이 있다. 따라서 기존 1세대 바이오연료에서 탈피하여, 식량자원과 경쟁이 없으며, 또한 분자구조식에 산소를 적게 포함하거나 아예 포함하지 않는 바이오연료("drop-in" 바이오연료) 생산에 많은 관심이 집중되고 있다. 이 글에서는 최근 그린공정으로 대표되는 초임계 유체를 이용한 "drop-in" 바이오연료를 제조하기 위한 바이오매스 액화의 기술동향을 소개하고자 한다.

Shock Tube and Modeling Study of Ethanol Ignition (에탄올 점화 과정에 관한 충격관 실험 및 모델 연구)

  • The ignition of ethanol-oxygen-argon mixture was studied in reflected shock waves over the temperature range of 1281-1625 K and the pressure range of 0.69-1.06 bar. The ignition delay time was measured by the sudden increase of pressure profile and the radiation emitted by OH radicals. The relationship between the ignition delay time and the concentrations of ethanol and oxygen was determined in the form of mass-action expressions with an Arrhenius temperature dependence. In contrast to the behavior observed in methanol, ethanol acts to inhibit rather than accelerate its own ignition. Several kinetic mechanisms proposed for ethanol oxidation at high temperatures have been tested by the computer simulation.

  • 지금까지 인류의 생활을 영위하기 위해 사용되어온 에너지 자원은 주로 화석연료가 대부분이었다. 대부분의 화석연료는 석유와 석탄으로 구성되어 있으며 그 중에서 석유는 인류의 생활에 없어서는 안될 매우 중요한 에너지 자원이 되었고 여러 방면에서 사용되고 있다. 그러나 대부분의 석유 매장량은 중동지방에 집중되어 있고 매장량이 한정되어 있다. 특히 석유는 국제 정세에 의해 중동지방으로부터의 원유공급이 불확실해질 수 있고 각 지역으로 석유공급을 할 때 관련되는 비용이 높은 문제점을 가지고 있다.(중략)

  • As the interest on the air-pollution is gradually rising up at home and abroad, automotiv e and fuel researchers have been working on the exhaust emission reduction from vehicles through a lot of approaches, which consist of new engine design, innovative after-treatment systems, using clean (eco-friendly alternative) fuels and fuel quality improvement. This research has brought forward three main issues : evaporative, performance, air pollution. In addition, researcher studied the environment problems of the bio-ethanol, bio-butanol, bio-ETBE (Ethyl Tertiary Butyl Ether), MTBE (Methyl Tert iary Butyl Ether) fuel contained in the fuel as octane number improver. The researchers have many dat a about the health effects of ingestion of octane number improver. However, the data support the con clusion that octane number improver is a potential human carcinogen at high doses. Based on the bio-fuel and octane number improver types (bio-ethanol, bio-butanol, bio-ETBE, MTBE), this paper dis cussed the influence of gasoline fuel properties on the evaporative emission characteristics. Also, this p aper assessed the acceleration and power performance of gasoline vehicle for the bio-fuel property. As a result of the experiment, it was found that all the test fuels meet the domestic exhaust gas standards, and as a result of measurement of the vapor pressure of the test fuels, the bio - ethanol : 15 kPa and the biobutanol : 1.6 kPa. thus when manufacturing E3 fuel, Increasing the biobutanol content reduces evaporation gas and vapor pressure. In addition, Similar accelerating and powering performance was shown for the type of biofuel and when bio-butanol and bio-ethanol were compared accelerated perf ormance was improved by about 3.9% and vehicle power by 0.8%.

  • Currently, bioethanol, a fuel additive for transportation, is produced mainly by using biomass (first generation) such as corn and sugar canes. First generation biomass can cause various problems in terms of increase in agricultural prices and ethical reasons. To address these problems, a nonedible lignocellulosic biomass can be utilized. Agricultural byproducts such as straw, bagasse, and forest byproducts from the wood processing industry. Therefore, production of wood based bioethanol can be an effective utilization route of second generation biomass, and its raw materials are more abundant than first generation resources. Furthermore, it is possible to secure cheap raw materials. One of the biggest advantages of using biofuels is that it contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gases by minimizing the environmental impact, unlike fossil fuels. In this study, we investigated the greenhouse gas reduction effects that can be achieved through the use of Lignocellulosic bioethanol and government policies on renewable energy currently being implemented in ASEAN countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines). In these four countries, policies and incentives related to biofuels have been developed. It is expected that the reduction ratio of carbon dioxide emission and the mixed biofuel will be gradually increased in the future.

  • 국제 유가의 상승으로 대체 에너지개발의 필요성이 대두되고 있는 지금 수송연료인 디젤의 대체 원료로 바이오디젤이 부각되었다. 차세대 대체연료인 바이오디젤의 합성 원료의 국산화로 수급의 안정성과 농가소득향상을 위해서 국내산 유채 착유기의 개발 및 유지의 함량을 측정하고 바이디젤로서의 적용가능성을 살펴보며 유박에서의 유지 추출 Biomass활용방안을 도출한다 국내산 유채 착유기 및 착유기술 평가를 통해 중소형 유채 착유기의 제작과 기본 조건을 도출을 위해 유채 착유실험을 진행하였다. 유채유의 착유온도에 따른 물성변화와 산가, 수분, 착유율의 변화와 영향을 확인하기 위해 roaster의 온도를 고온과 저온으로 나누어 착유하여 각각의 물성 실험과 산가, 수분, 착유율을 측정 비교하였다. 유채유는 저온보다 고온에서 착유량이 높으나 많은 검질과 높은 산가로 인해 바이오디젤 합성과정에 많은 어려움을 나타내었다. 유채의 유박을 바이오디젤과 에탄올로 각각 Extraction.한 결과 바이오디젤보다는 에탄올이 적용 가능성이 높음을 확인하였다.

Effect of Ambient Conditions on the Spray Behavior and Atomization Characteristics of Biodiesel-ethanol Blended Fuels (분위기 조건이 바이오디젤과 에탄올 혼합연료의 분무 거동 및 미립화 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • The aim of this work is to investigate the effect of ambient conditions on the spray behavior of biodiesel-ethanol blended fuels. In order to analyze the spray behavior, spray tip penetration and spray cone angle were obtained from the visualization system and the effects of ethanol blending are compared macroscopic characteristics with the numerical results. It was reveled that the ethanol contents in biodiesel-ethanol blended fuels affect the spray tip penetration a little and increased the spray cone angle. Increased ambient pressure induced the decrease of the spray tip penetration, and the increased ambient temperature lead to the increase of the spray tip penetration. In addition, the increased ambient temperature promoted the vaporization and atomization of spray with the effect of increasing ethanol fuel.
