  • The Korean government is planning to introduce the Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) system to replace the currently used Feed-in-Tariff (FIT) system which is a subsidy-based mechanism to foster the renewable energy industry. The RPS system is a market-oriented system in which the power companies are obliged to use renewable energy sources to produce electricity by a certain ratio of their production level. They can either produce for themselves or simply purchase the REC (renewable energy certificate) in the market to implement. The objective of this article is to compare the RPS system with the current FIT system in terms of the implementing cost to achieve the policy goal to expand the share of renewable energy m the total power generation. The analysis is conducted using Linear Programming models. The results of this study imply several policy suggestions to successfully introduce the RPS system.

  • Vehicle idle has become an increasing quality concern for automobile manufacturers because of its impact on customer satisfaction. As demand for better fuel economy increases, automobile manufacturers are continuously looking for any benefits from different driving conditions. Combustion variability in spark ignition engines was recognized that the stability of engine at idle is affected by the factors of fuel injection timing, ignition timing and air-fuel ratio. Therefore in this research, the results will be shown the effects of stability and the variations at idle according to fuel injection timing, ignition timing and air-fuel ratio as the basic parameters.

An Analysis of $CO_2$ Emission Structure in Korean Industry Using Hybrid IO Table (하이브리드 산업연관표를 이용한 우리나라 $CO_2$ 배출 구조 분석)

  • To analyze the direct and indirect $CO_2$ emission structure according to industries in Korea, a hybrid IO table quantifying the section of energy in the IO table is needed. However, the results of the recent researches revealed differences in the total amount of $CO_2$ emission by researchers in addition to significant standard deviation in industrial distribution. This study intends to make comparative analysis of the existing method of making an IO table for energy and environment and presents an improvement scheme to contribute to an improvement in calculation of the total amount of $CO_2$ emission and estimation of the emission by industries in Korea. For this purpose, division was made into use as raw materials of energy and that as fuel and a new hybrid IO table was made by removing confounding factors caused by the product tax and subsidies. As a result, the oil and coal industry emitted 5.2 times less $CO_2$ after removing energy inputted as raw materials from the transaction table than before. The amount of $CO_2$ emission estimated by using the IO table based on basic price was found to be 2.7% less than by using the IO table based on the producer price.

The Survey of Total Mixed Ration Plant in Korea (국내 TMR 배합소에 대한 실태조사)

  • This experiment was carried out to show a reform measures by grouping for problems by the survey of TMR plants. Twenty total mixed ration (TMR) plants (10 cooperation and 10 private plants) were surveyed, of which 13 plants, 65% of total TMR plants, committed TMR formulae to a outside nutrition specialist (TMR formulator). With respect to consulting fee for TMR formulae, $500{\sim}900$ thousands Won was paid monthly. On the basis of dry matter 1kg, the prices of TMR products were $325.6{\sim}347.0$Won, whereas those of wet TMR products $365.7{\sim}375.0$Won, which was appeared to be factors to increase management cost. And also, because the TMR plants did not provide TDN (total digestible nutrient) value on their products, nutritional balance feeding for cows could not be managed in farms. It was calculated, based on ADF (acid detergent fiber) value, that TDN value in dry type TMR was 63.0% and 73.2% fur private and cooperation TMR plants, respectively and that the corresponding figure in wet type TMR was 64.9% and 67.2%. According to TMR plant employee's opinion, a prier items to enlarge TMR utilization were TMR education, TMR advertisement, and improvement of ability to make TMR formula. Therefore, for the purpose of further development of TMR, special education of persons related to TMR should be supported.

Comparison of Price Predictive Ability between Futures Market and Expert System for WTI Crude Oil Price (선물시장과 전문가예측시스템의 가격예측력 비교 - WTI 원유가격을 대상으로 -)

  • Recently, we have been witnessing new records of crude oil price hikes. One question which naturally arises would be the possibility and accuracy of forecasting crude oil prices. This study tries to answer the relative predictability of futures prices compared to the forecasts based on experts system. Using WTI crude oil spot and futures prices, this study performs simple statistical comparisons in forecasting accuracy and a formal test of differences in forecasting errors. According to statistical results, WTI crude oil futures market turns out to be equally efficient relative to EIA experts system. Consequently, WTI crude oil futures market could be utilized as a market-based tool for price forecasting and/or resource allocation for both of petroleum producers and consumers.

  • Nowaday the amount of water resource to generate the hydro-power energy has decreased as that of the water supply has increased. In case that the national market of the energy will be in free competition, the energy producer need to suggest the amount of the optimal supply with the hydrological reliability for a deal. In this study the optimal reservoir operation was performed by the linear programming and the optimal reliabilities of inflows and the power supply were obtained by the one dimensional search technique to estimate the energy with the optimal inflow reliability which the power system of the Yongdam multipurpose dam in Geum river can produce. And the main results were presented.

  • Owing to technological advancements and energy-saving policies, the demand for LED is increasing, leading to rapid industry expansion. Consequently, efficient recycling of accumulated LED waste has become a growing social concern, and current recycling status of LED waste resources and future directions were reviewed. Currently, waste LED recycling is focused on Ga recovery. Therefore, the development of integrated recycling technologies such as pre-treatment and concentration/recovery of high valued materials is necessary. In this study, we investigated the status and recycling technologies of waste LED and presented prospects.

  • 태양광 시장은 세계적인 금융 위기 속에서도 점점 그 규모가 확대되고 있다. 시장의 규모가 확대되고 있음에도 불구하고 금융 위기를 겪으면서 생산자 중심의 시장에서 수요자 중심의 시장으로 바뀌게 되었다. 이에 따라 더 적은 비용으로 높은 출력의 제품만이 경쟁력을 가지게 됨으로써 효율이 더욱 이슈화되었다. 여러 태양전지 중 가장 점유율이 높은 결정질 태양전지는 일반적인 양산 공정만으로 효율을 높이는데 한계가 있으므로 selective emitter, back contact, light induced plating 등의 새로운 공정을 도입하여 효율을 높이려는 경향이 나타나고 있다. 본 연구에서는, ALD 장치를 사용하여 결정질 태양전지의 후면을 passivation 함으로써 효율을 높이는 방법을 모색하였다. 부동화 층으로는 $Al_2O_3$를 사용하였으며 셀을 제조하여 평가하였다. 실험방법은 p-type의 웨이퍼를 이용하여 습식으로 texturing 후 $POCl_3$ 용액으로 p-n junction을 형성하였고 anti-reflection 막인 SiNx는 PECVD를 사용하여 R.I 2.05, 80nm 두께로 증착하였다. 그런 다음 후면의 n+ layer를 제거하기 위하여 SiNx에 영향을 미치지 않는 용액을 사용하여 후면을 식각하였다. BSF 층은 screen printer로 Al paste를 printing하여 형성하였고 Al etching용액으로 여분의 Al제거한 후 ALD 장치를 이용하여 $Al_2O_3$를 증착하였다. 마지막으로 전극을 형성한 후 laser로 isolation하여 효율을 평가하였다.

A Study on Smart Grid and Cyber Security Strategy (지능형 전력망 도입과 사이버보안 전략)

  • Smart Grids are intelligent next generating Electric Power System (EPS) that provide environment-friendliness, high-efficiency, and high-trustworthiness by integrating information and communication technology with electric power technology. Smart grids help to supply power more efficiently and safely than past systems by bilaterally exchanging information between the user and power producer. In addition, it alleviates environmental problems by using renewable energy resources. However, smart grids have many cyber security risks because of the bilateral service, the increase of small and medium-sized energy resources, and the installation of multi-sensors or control devices. These cyber risks can cause critical problems within a national grid through even small errors. Therefore, in order to reduce these risks, it is necessary to establish a cyber security strategy and apply it from the developmental stage to the implementation stage. This thesis analyzes and recommends security strategy in order to resolve the security risks. By applying cyber security strategy to a smart grid, it will provide a stepping-stone to creating a safe and dependable smart grid.

Comparison of Trophic Structures and Energy Flows using the Ecopath Model in the Lake Namyang and the Lower Reaches of the Nakdong River (Ecopath 모델을 이용한 남양호와 낙동강 하류 생태계의 영양구조 및 에너지 흐름 비교)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the trophic structures and the energy flows in the Lake Namyang and the lower reaches of the Nakdong River using the Ecopath model. The sampling and analyses were carried out at 6 sampling sites of the Lake Namyang and the lower reaches of the Nakdong River respectively on March and November in 2007. As a result, the Lake Namyang was consisted of producers(Detritus, Macrophytes, Phytoplankton), primary consumers(Zooplankton, Zoobenthos, Carassius cuvieri, Carassius auratus, Other fishes) and secondary consumer(Cyprinus carpio, Pseudobagrus fulvidraco) and the lower reaches of the Nakdong River was consisted of producers(Detritus, Macrophytes, Phytoplankton), primary consumers (Zooplankton, Zoobenthos, Cyprinus carpio, Hemibarbus labeo, Other fishes) and secondary consumer (Micropterus salmoides). The food-chain length of the Lake Namyang was relatively short when compared with the lower reaches of the Nakdong River. The shortness of food-chain length in the Lake Namyang could be attributed to the low biomass of the top predators. The total system throughput of the lake Namyang was estimated at 14.3 kg $m^{-2}\;year^{-1}$ including a consumption of 39.0%, exports of 21.0%, respiratory flows of 12.0% and flows into detritus of 28.0% and the total system throughput of the lower reaches of the Nakdong River was estimated at 2.8 kg $m^{-2}\;year^{-1}$ including a consumption of 52.0%, exports of 9.1%, respiratory flows of 18.0% and flows into detritus of 20.9% in the lower reaches of the Nakdong River.
