The systematic analysis and evaluation of required energy in the processes of drinking water production and supply have attracted considerable interest considering the need to overcome electricity shortage and control greenhouse gas emissions. On the basis of a review of existing research results, a practical method is developed in this study for evaluating energy in water supply networks. The proposed method can be applied to real water supply systems. A model based on the proposed method is developed by combining the hydraulic analysis results that are obtained using the EPANET2 software with a mathematical energy model on the MATLAB platform. It is suggested that performance indicators can evaluate the inherent efficiency of water supply facilities as well as their operational efficiency depending on the pipeline layout, pipe condition, and leakage level. The developed model is validated by applying it to virtual and real water supply systems. It is expected that the management of electric power demand on the peak time of water supply and the planning of an energy-efficient water supply system can be effectively achieved by the optimal management of energy by the proposed method in this study.

Europe and North America are paying attention to residential ESS(Energy Storage System) that can manage energy efficiently. The ESS is a system that stores and manages the electric power by charging and discharging the battery. The ESS is generally used in conjunction with photovoltaic systems. The ESS supplies the load of the power generation time and stores the remaining PV power to supply the load at the non-power generation time. However, due to the high price of residential ESS, low electric rates and increasing block rates, there is no market of residential ESS in Korea. This paper reviews the price condition and the capacity for applying PV and residential ESS to household of apartments using HOMER in Korea.

Systematic management during the whole life cycle from construction to operation and maintenance is very important for the seven underground pipelines (waterworks, sewerage, electricity, telecommunications, gas, heating, oil including waterworks and sewerage). Especially, it is the construction process that affects the whole life cycle of underground buried pipeline. In order to construct a new city or to maintain different underground pipes, it is always necessary to dig the ground and carry out construction and related work. There is a possibility that secondary and tertiary breaks frequently occur in the pipeline construction process after the piping constructed first in this process. To solve this problem, a system is needed which can monitor damage in real time. However, the supply of electric power for continuous operation of the system is limited according to the environment of underground buried pipelines, so it is necessary to develop a stable electric power supply system using natural energy rather than existing electric power. In this study, we developed a system that can operate the pipeline monitoring system for long time (24 hours and 15 days) using natural energy using wind and solar light.

This study was carried out to investigate the integrated biomass strategies for utilization and application characteristics in Hokkaido prefecture, japan. From the results, to achieve a successful operation of biomass recycling facilities, it previously needs the effective byproduct supplying construction system for field demander as well as the advanced environmental technology introduction. Especially, the value-promotion recycling technology were requested as follows; (1) production of functional solid composting for protection soil acidification, (2) the addition of soil microorganism to the production of liquid fermentation fertilizer, (3) construction of diverse energy supply system, (4) mixed organic material fermentation process concerning on heavy metal concentration, (5) introduction of incentive garbage collection system for contaminants prevention.
For more effective temperature control of atmospheric plasma sprayed (APS) zirconia thermal barrier coating, understanding of the parameters, which influence the substrate temperature, is essential and also more numerical results based on the experimental data are required. This study aims to investigate the substrate temperature control during an APS process. The APS process deals with air-cooled systems, plasma-gas flow, powder feed rate, robot velocity, and substrate effect on the substrate surface temperature control during the process. This systematic approach will help to handle the temperature control, and thus lead to better coating quality.

Due to the recent increase in new and renewable energy, gas turbine generators start and stop every day to supply high-quality power, and accordingly, the life span of high-temperature parts is shortened and the failure of combustion chamber temperature sensors increases. Therefore, in this study, we proposed a fuzzy logic-based failure diagnosis algorithm that can accurately diagnose and systematically detect the failure of the sensor when the dual temperature sensor used for gas turbine control fails, and to confirm the usefulness of the proposed algorithm We tried to confirm the usefulness of the proposed algorithm by performing various simulations under the matlab/simulink environment.
The demand for fuel and energy resources continues to grow due to increased consumption and emerging economies in all parts of the world. With this increase in demand, crude oil prices in the international market has jumped dramatically. Global warming, which is a consequence of increasing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, has become scientific, social, and political concerns. To cope with global warming and energy crisis, cost-competitive biofuels are urgently needed. In addition, development of an infrastructure, which supplies energy stably and diversifies energy resources, as well as new cost-saving technologies should be developed to reduce the costs of producing biofuels. Due to high oleic acid content, rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) is currently the potential feedstock for biodiesel production in temperate zone region and the production and use of rapeseed oil is already commercialized in Europe. In Korea double-cropping (rice and rapeseed) became more prevalent because it reduces competitions from land constraints. Production of rapeseed as a biodiesel feedstock may reduce the influence of rising oil prices and nation's dependence on imported petroleum and increase job opportunities and farm incomes.

The youth unemployment problem has become a consistent issue with the number recently surpassing 1million. The marine and fisheries sector, being no exception, is having problems attracting outstanding individuals to the sector on the one hand, and in providing high quality jobs on the other, resulting in an imbalance in the supply and demand of the marine and fisheries sector workforce. In order to supply a workforce that meets the future and on the ground demands, addressing of the qualitative rather than the quantitative aspects of the imbalance issue is more important. Thus, the following strategies are recommended: 1) focus on developing a highly skilled workforce that corresponds to future and on the ground demands; 2) improve educational infrastructures such as training equipment, and enhance the professional capacity of school teachers; 3) establish an integrated system for the management of the education and re-education of human resources.
Hydrogen emerged as a sustainable transport energy source. To increase hydrogen utilization, hydrogen refueling stations must be available in many places. However, this requires large-scale financial investment. This paper proposed a methodology for selecting the optimal location to maximize the use of hydrogen charging stations. The location of gas stations and natural gas charging stations, which are competing energy sources, was first considered, and the expected charging demand of hydrogen cars was calculated by further reflecting data such as population, number of registered vehicles, etc. Using k-medoids clustering, one of the machine learning techniques, the optimal location of hydrogen charging stations to meet demand was calculated. The applicability of the proposed method was illustrated in a numerical case of Seoul. Data-based methods, such as this methodology, could contribute to constructing efficient hydrogen economic systems by increasing the speed of hydrogen distribution in the future.

A higher penetration of renewable energy sources and adoption of renewable portfolio standard(RPS), the penetration of distributed generators(DGs) into power distribution network is becoming a threat for the safe operation of distribution network. The ground fault current of DGs can cause parasitic trip and mal-trip of protective device in the power distribution network. KEPRI has developed a simulation program for current setting of protective devices in DGs connected distribution network. In this study, we analyzed fault currents of a sample network in two cases, i.e. case 1 is for no DG connection, case 2 for a DG connection. We performed protection coordination for relays installed in the network and analyzed the contribution of a DG.
