  • The purpose of this study was to investigate how a child's temperament and child-mother goodness of fit affect the child's self-perception. 165 pairs of 5-year-old children and their mothers were recruited. The mothers were asked to answer the questionnaire on her child's temperament and goodness of fit. Each child participated in a semi-structured interview using two identical puppets to measure the children's self-perception. The results of this study were : (1) All of mean scores on the dimensions of children's self-perception were above the median, children in this study perceived themselves positively. (2) Children's positive self-perception was significantly related to harmonious children-mother goodness of fit. (3) The effect of goodness of fit was higher than temperament in all dimensions of self-perception. The sex variable also affects aggression-hostility and academic competence. This study suggests that the effect of goodness of fit was higher than that of temperament, and the importance of a harmonious children-mother relationship and parenting education, and these conclusions were reached by examining the outstanding effect of the goodness of fit.

  • This study investigates how bioecological variables affect the child's multiple intelligence through independent and interactional ways. The subjects of this study were 147 pairs of 5-year-old children and their mothers, and the Project Spectrum was employed to measure multiple intelligences. Each mothers was asked to answer a questionnaire on her child's temperament, her maternal parenting style, 'goodness of fit' and 'the fit of child's intelligence'. Data were analyzed using a factor analysis and a hierarchical multiple regression with SPSS WIN 15.0. The main findings were as followings; First, 'the goodness of fit' to the child's temperament moderated the effect of a maternal parenting style that would foster child's dependency on the mathematical intelligence through interaction. 'The fit of child's intelligence' also moderated the effect of maternal positive parenting style to the child's mathematical intelligence. Second, in language intelligence, girls were more verbally intelligent than boys. In that regard, because the sex variable entails a combination of both inherent attribute and social-cultural effects, that result can be interpreted as an interaction between the individual and the environment. Lastly, a maternal parenting style that would foster child's dependency moderated the effect of the child's regular temperament on interpersonal intelligence. This means that the child's regular temperament can be a protective factor for the negative effect of a maternal parenting style that would foster child's dependency This study suggests that interactional factors such as 'goodness of fit' should be considered in studies involving children.

  • Objective: The goal of this study was to clarify the differences in children's child care center adjustment depending on child-mother's goodness of fit. Methods: A total of 478 subjects, 239 dyads of 3 and 4 year old children and their mothers and 16 teachers participated in this study. The instruments used in this study were the DOTS-R, EAS Scale and PAQ. The collected data were analyzed using a t-test, Anova, and regression with the SPSS. Results: First, mother's demand was significantly different only with regard to the income level. Second, mother's temperament and mother's demand were positively correlated and the mother's demand was influenced by the mother's temperament. Third, mother's demand according to children's gender was indicated to differ significantly. Fourth, children's temperament and mother's demand were positively correlated and mother's demand was influenced by children's temperament. Finally, ego strength according to active and adoptive temperaments in child-mother's goodness of fit had significant differences. In addition, prosocial behavior according to regular temperament of child-mother's goodness of fit was indicated to have a significant difference. Conclusion/Implications: This study suggests that it is important for mothers to understand and appropriately demand the temperament of the children in the adaptation of the child care center.
