The study found significant correlations among all four variables studied. In particular, self-esteem acted as a partial mediator in the relationship between the mothers' parenting behavior, emotional expression and creative personality of the children. Objectives:This study investigated the relationship among child's behavior problems, maternal depression, and parenting stress in children with psychiatric diagnoses and their mothers, and the effect of these variables to the mothers' parenting stress. Methods:Seventy-three children(31 externalizing, 24 internalizing, 18 mixed) and their mothers were involved in this study. The mothers of three groups completed MMPI, KPI-C(Korean Personality Inventory for Children), and PSI(Parenting Stress Index). To investigate the relationships among each variables, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, stepwise regression analysis were performed. Results:There was no significant difference in maternal depression among three groups of children. In 2-Way ANOVA, main effect of maternal depression was statistically significant on depression, parent health, and relationship with spouse subfactor in parent domain, parent domain total, and overall parenting stress. But the main effect of child group was statistically significant on distractability/hyperactivity subfactor in child domain only. In regression analysis, maternal depression explained the parent domain of parenting stress most effectively, and child's hyperactivity and anxiety explained the child domain of parenting stress significantly. Conclusion:These findings suggest that it is important to intervene maternal depression to reduce the parenting stress, along with the treatment of the child's behavior problems.

This study discusses about virtues and character of good parents for the rearing of children through the written by Lee, Deok-Moo treating traditional education in late Chosun Dynasty. The study is conducted by answering the two questions for inquiry. First, what is the virtues and character of parents discussed in ? Second, what is the modern meaning of character of the parents? Father's character is expressed as 'stability and warmth', 'trust and moderation' and 'understanding and consideration'. And Mother's character includes 'politeness and harmony', 'responsibility' and 'understanding and consideration'. These results present three important implications from a modern perspective. First, children inherit character and virtues of parents through visual learning. Second, character and virtues of parents are expressed as language and behavior. Third, it is emphasized as ethics of family. Fourth, it is closely linked to the core virtues of character within the [Character Education Promotion Law]. Therefore, parents need to do self-reflection and effort to improve their own characters for character education of next generation.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the variables that affect the problem behavior of children and to examine the relationships between problem behavior of young children in relation to the child's characteristics(temperament and ego-resiliency), the mother's characteristics(parenting stress and personality characteristics), and the teacher's characteristics(teacher-child relationship and emotional expressiveness). The researcher surveyed 314 parents and 56 teachers of young children in the transitional period from 32 early childhood institutes in Daejeon. The summaries of the results of the study are as seen below. First, the child's gender and mother's education were statistically significant variables in explaining the variance in problem behavior of young children. More boys than girls showed more problem behaviors and children of mothers who graduated university showed less problem behavior. Second, teacher-child relationship was the most predictive variable in problem behavior of young children. Children who had good relationships with their teachers showed less problem behavior and children who had poor relationships with their teachers showed more problem behavior. The results of this study can provide basic data for consulting and developing program to prevent and treat the problem behavior of young children to consider the development of children.
