  • The quantification analysis problem is that how the m entities that have n characteristics can be linked to p-dimension space to reflect the similarity of each entity In this paper, the optimization approach for the quantification analysis problem using neural networks is suggested, and the performance is analyzed The computation of average variation volume by mean field theory that is analytical approximated mobility of a molecule system and the annealed mean field neural network approach are applied in this paper for solving the quantification analysis problem. As a result, the suggested approach by a mean field annealing neural network can obtain more optimal solution than the eigen value analysis approach in processing costs.

  • Genetic algorithm is modelled on natural evolution and simulated annealing is based on the simulation of thermal annealing. Both genetic algorithm and simulated annealing are stochastic method. So they can find global optimum values. For compare efficiency of SA and GA's, some function value was maximized. In the result, that was a little better than GA's.

  • Determining the best visibility positions on terrain surface has been one of the frequently used analytical issues in GIS visibility analysis and the search for a solution has been carried out effectively using spatial search techniques. However, the spatial search process provides operational and methodological challenges for finding computational algorithms suitable for solving the best visibility site problem. For this problem, current GIS visibility analysis has not been successful due to limited algorithmic structure and operational performance. To meet these challenges, this paper suggests four algorithms explored robust search techniques: an extensive iterative search technique; a conventional solution based on the Tornqvist algorithm; genetic algorithm; and simulated annealing technique. The solution performance of these algorithms is compared on a set of visibility location problems and the experiment results demonstrate the useful feasibility. Finally, this paper presents the potential applicability of the new spatial search techniques for GIS visibility analysis by which the new search algorithms are of particular useful for tackling extensive visibility optimization problems as the next GIS analysis tool.

  • In this paper, the optimal position selection of error microphones and control speakers to attenuate interior noise from outside noise sources using active noise control techniques is presented. To get an optimal control characteristics of adaptive noise control systems, it is necessary to optimize the positions of microphones and speakers. New type of simulated annealing method has been proposed as searching techniques to find optimal speakers and microphones positions in which the sum of the squared pressures at microphone positions in an enclosure can be best minimized. Computer simulations and experiments have been performed to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • Simple spring-damper-mass models have been widely used to understand whole-body vertical biodynamic response characteristics of the seated vehicle driver. However, most previous models have not considered about the non-rigid masses(wobbling masses). A simple mechanical model of seated human body developed in this study included the torso represented by a rigid and a wobbling mass. Within the 0.5-20Hz frequency range and for excitation amplitudes maintained below $5ms^{-2}$, this 4-degree-of-freedom driver model is proposed to satisfy the measured vertical vibration response characteristics defined from a synthesis of published data for subjects seated erect without backrest support. The parameters are identified by using the combinatorial optimization technique, simulated annealing method. The model response was found to be provided a closer agreement with the response characteristics than previously published models.

  • The composite stock cutting problem is to allocate rectangular and/or irregular patterns onto a large composite stock sheet of finite dimensions in such a way that the resulting scrap will be minimized. In this paper, the distributed simulated annealing with the new cost error tolerant spatial decomposition is applied to the composite stock cutting problem in MPI environments. The cost error tolerant scheme relaxes synchronization and chooses small perturbations on states asynchronously in a dynamically changed stream length to keep the convergence property of the sequential annealing. This paper proposes the efficient data structures for representation of patterns and their affinity relations and also shows how to determine move generations, annealing parameters, and a cost function. The spatial decomposition method is addressed in detail. This paper identifies that the final quality is not degraded with almost linear speedup. Composite stock shapes are not constrained to convex polygons or even regular shapes, but the rotations are only allowed to 2 or 4 due to its composite nature.

  • The equivalent source method(ESM) is used for the calculation of the internal pressure field for an enclosure which can have arbitrary boundary conditions and may include internal objects which scatter the sound field. The advantage of using ESM is that it requires relatively low computing cost and is easy to model the internal diffracting objects. In the ESM modelling, some of the equivalent positions are chosen to be the same as the first order images of the source inside the enclosure, some are positioned on a spherical surface some distance outside the enclosure. The normal velocity on the surfaces of the enclosure walls is evaluated at a larger number of positions than there are equivalent sources. The sum of the squared difference between this velocity and the expected is minimized by adjusting the strength of the equivalent sources. This study is on the optimal equivalent source positions, the far field sources. Typically, the far field sources are evenly distributed on a surface of a virtual sphere which is centered at the enclosure with a sufficiently large radius. In this study, optimal far field source locations are searched using simulated annealing method and simulation results showed that optimally located sources gave better accuracy even with a smaller number of far field sources.

  • In this study, we developed a program of optimizing stand-level carbon stock using a stand-level yield model and the Simulated Annealing (SA) heuristic method to derive a optimized forest treatment solution. The SA is one of the heuristic algorithms that can provide a desirable management solution when dealing with various management purposes. The SA heuristic algorithm applied 'thermal equilibrium test', a thresholds approach to solve the phenomenon that does not find an optimum solution and stays at a local optimum value during the process. We conducted a sensitivity test for the temperature reduction rate, the major parameter of the thermal equilibrium test, to analyze its influence on the objective function value and the total iteration of the optimization process. Using the developed program, three scenarios were compared: a common treatment in forestry (baseline), the optimized solution of maximizing the amount of harvest(alternative 1), and the optimized solution of maximizing the amount of carbon stocks(alternative 2). As the results, we found that the alternative 1 showed provide acceptable solutions for the objectives. From the sensitivity test, we found that the objective function value and the total iteration of the process can be significantly influenced by the temperature reduction rate. The developed program will be practically used for optimizing stand-level carbon stock and developing optimized treatment solutions.
