Value Engineering Approach for Heat Curing Method Under Cold Weather Condition (한중콘크리트 보온양생 공법에 대한 VE분석)

  • This study was conducted to draw various decisive elements of a reasonable heat curing method and to examine the importance in deciding a construction method when constructing cold weather concrete. As a result, the items proposed as important elements at the time of decision of a heat curing method included economy, workability, maintainability, insulation capability, reduced construction period and usability. As a result of importance by items under AHP technique, it was found the most important element was insulation capability, followed by reduced construction period and workability. As a result of comparison of a heat supplying and a heat insulation method by dual bubble sheet differed 2 times as much as a heat supplying method, especially the evaluation degree by insulation capability and reduced construction period was high.

  • Although the application period of hot weather concrete in our country is two months of July~August which is relatively short, many problems in various aspects such as generation of plastic/dry contraction cracks and cold joints can be caused unless proper quality control measures are established at this time. Therefore, this study compared the temperature history of the placed concrete by applying a mono white and aluminum-deposited bubble sheet developed with surface coating curing materials for surface exposure and summer to an actually constructed apartment slab. The analysis result showed that the mono white bubble sheet is the best method.

  • Many problems in various aspects such as generation of plastic/dry contraction cracks and cold joints can be caused unless proper quality control measures are established in hot weather circumstances. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the crack patterns of concrete by applying a change in 3 surface curing methods such as a mono aluminum-deposited bubble sheet developed to reduce the temperature and cracks through reflection of heat in summer and a PE film and a surface exposure used generally to an actually constructed apartment slab. The study result confirmed that the best concrete crack reduction effect can be obtained with a mono aluminum-deposited bubble sheet.

  • The study is compared temperature history and strength of concrete followed by covering method of insulation curing of cold weather concrete with double bubble sheet. The results were as follows. First of all, in temperature history of concrete, the internal temperature of concrete fell down to $0^{\circ}C$ before/after 60 hours, having nothing to do with covering method. The study could see that, when sheet was isolated, it fell down to low temperature quickly in early curing. When the study measured compressive strength of core specimen, there were no large differences among placing methods. However, compressive strength fell down in all ages when sheet was isolated.

  • This paper is to compare the temperature history of the concrete using existing curing sheet and developed curing sheet made with double layered bubble sheet subjected to clod climate. Field application was conducted. According to results, application of developed curing sheet makes the temperature of curing house and concrete higher than existing curing sheet by about 3℃. This is due to the lower thermal conductivity of developed curing sheet.

  • Experimental test results of field construction, Cheongju University Educational Liberal Art Building, applying the insulating curing method on slab concrete showed that the quality of concrete in fresh and hardened state satisfied all target values. Temperature history of slab concrete in A and B area secured more than $7.8{\sim}9.2^{\circ}C$ higher than outside atmosphere. After completing certain curing period of time on the surface of the structure, crack occurrence was not found. It is concluded that the preventing vaporization of moisture by the insulating curing method reduces plastic and drying shrinkage as welt as improves durability.

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of the application of double layered bubble sheet on the curing of slab and wall concrete placed at the job site in cold weather and to offer a feasibility of Concrete IoT Management System(CIMS), which is wireless sensor network developed by the authors, to manage early age quality of the concrete in terms of temperature, maturity and strength development. Test results indicated that the application of bubble sheet enhances the insulation performance, which results in an increase of the temperature by around 1~20. 6℃. It is found that CIMS can gather the temperature, maturity and strength development data from the sensors embedded from 30 m far from CIMS successfully. Predicted compressive strengths by CIMS had good agreement with measured ones within 2 MPa error level until 7 days. It is thought that the combination of the bubble sheet application for cold weather protection and CIMS for quality management tool in cold weather concreting contributes to shorten the time for the form removal by one day.

Prevention of Early Frost Damage of the Concrete under Severely Low Temperature according to Heat Curingmethods (극저온 조건에서 보온양생 방법 변화에 따른 콘크리트의 초기동해 방지)

  • Concrete exposed to severely low temperature below $-20^{\circ}C$ should be provided with proper heat supplying curing to protect the concrete from early frost damage at the time of pouring.meanwhile, so far, effective heat curingmethods of the concrete under severely low temperature are not well established in Korea. For this reason, the objective of this paper is to provide effective heat curingmethod of concrete exposed to severely low temperature to protect early frost damage by varying the combination of heat curingmaterial combinations. Temperature history,maturity development and core strength results are investigated. Fourmock-up specimens simulating slab, wall and column were prepared and heat insulation, heat supplying and both were applied. Test results indicate that the combination of quadruple layer bubble sheet(4BS) and embedding of heating cable has desirable performance for a slab, and heat supplying curing inside heat enclosure and heat generationmat also shows desirable performance for a wall, and for a column, use of EPS heat insulation has proper performance against early frost damage, which reaches $45^{\circ}D{\cdot}D$ and helps the concretemaintain above $0^{\circ}C$ within 3 days. Themethodsmentioned above are believed to be optimum protection from early frost damage of the concrete under $-20^{\circ}C$.

Field Application of the Mass Concrete Using Insulation Curing Method with Double Bubble Sheets Subject to Cold Weather (이중버블시트를 이용한 단열보온양생공법의 한중매스콘크리트 현장적용)

  • This study investigated the applicability of insulation curing method with double layer bubble sheets to the man concrete subjected to cold weather. Temperature history of the mass concrete indicated that the highest temperature of center section was exhibited at $34^{\circ}C$ while the that of surface section was $25^{\circ}C$. Difference between center and surface was shown to be less $10^{\circ}C$ when the temperature of center section was peak section, and thereby associated temperature cracking index was calculated 1.5, and occurrence probability of temperature cracking was 5%, so there was no temperature cracking caused by internal restraint. No temperature crack was observed by naked eye. It was clear that early frost demage and temperature cracking could be restrained due to reducing temperature difference between inner part and outside in the case double bubble sheets applied to insulation curing method in cold weather. The maturity of mass concrete is higher than outside about $72\sim89^{\circ}$ DD, so it was demonstrated to prevent early frost demage and ensure strength excellently. Insulation curing method with double bubble sheets was more economic than heating curing method.

  • This paper reported the temperature history of concrete placed at deck plate slab under cold climate condition by varying with surface insulating type. No curing sheet and simple insulation curing including non-woven fabric, double layer bubble sheet, the combination of double layer bubble sheet and non-woven fabric dropped temperature below zero within 24 hours, which caused frost damage at early age. On the other hand, the combination of double layer bubble sheet and non-woven fabric and double layer bubble sheet and styrofoam maintained minimum temperature above $4^{\circ}C\;and\;8^{\circ}C$, respectively. Based on core test results compressive strength of concrete with the combination of double layer bubble sheet and non-woven fabric and double layer bubble sheet and styrofoam was higher than those with other curing method due to good insulation effect.
