  • The purpose of this study is to examine the relations between parenting behaviors, adolescents' attachment toward parents and peers, and adolescents' self-esteem. The differences in parenting behaviors and adolescents' attachment and self-esteem as a function of parent and adolescent gender are also examined. Participants were 405 high school students (Mage = 16.3, SD = 0.71) who completed questionnaires regarding parenting behavior, parent and peer attachment, and self-esteem. Results show that girls perceived a higher maternal behavioral control and peer attachment, whereas boys perceived a higher parental psychological control. The relative contributions of peer attachment and parenting differed depending on the adolescent's gender. Peer attachment was the only variable to predict boys' self-esteem, but mothers' behavioral control is also important to predict girls' self-esteem. The results underscore the importance of parenting behaviors and adolescents' attachment toward parents and peers in predicting an adolescent's positive self-esteem.

  • The purpose of this investigation was to examine the mediating effects of delinquent peers between attachment to parents, low self-control and adolescent deviant behaviors. After specifying a research model based on Gottfredson and Hirschi's general theory of crime and Hirschi's control theory of delinquency, the study analysed the model using structural equation modeling. The data for this investigation came from a sample of 2,448 Korean adolescents. The results showed the both measurement model and structural model had a good fit to the data and all paths of structural model were statistically significant. The main findings were the attachment to parents and low self-control had direct and indirect effects on adolescent deviant behaviors through delinquent peers. The implications for practical intervention and further research in the field of delinquency were discussed.

  • This study examined the effects of parental attachment and peer attachment in elementary school children upon early adolescent delinquency. The participants were 2,844 taken from data from the Korean Youth Panel Survey (KYPS). Data from secondary questionnaires data on parent and peer attachment, problem behavior, delinquent peers, and delinquency were used for this study. Data were analyzed by means of a Structural Equation Model using AMOS 5.0. Our results indicated that, firstly, parental attachment was negatively related to problem behavior for both male and female adolescents, whereas peer attachment was positively related to problem behavior only for males, but not for females. Secondly, problem behavior in childhood has a direct effect on adolescent delinquency, which also can be indirectly mediated by contact with delinquent peers. In conclusion, the path model from parental and peer attachment in early childhood to adolescent delinquency was supported only in the case of males.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Yakson therapy conducted by mother of preterm infants on the maternal attachment and attachment behavior. Method: A quasi experimental pre-post test design was used. The data were collected from January, 2005 to October, 2005. The participants were 30 mothers of preterm infants hospitalized in a neonatal intensive care unit (15 in the Yakson therapy group and 15 in control group). Yakson therapy consists of three phases: laying a hand, caressing by hand, and laying a hand again taking 5 minutes for each phase. Yakson therapy was provided to infants in the experimental group for 15-minutes 5 times for 15 days. Data were analyzed using the SAS program with x2-test, repeated measures ANOVA, and Fisher's exact test. Result: Compared to the control group, the experimental group had significantly higher scores in maternal attachment (F=5.54, p=.0258). And the attachment behavior of the experimental group was higher than that of the control group. Conclusion: The results suggest that Yakson therapy can be used to improve maternal attachment and attachment behavior.

  • The main purpose of this study was to examine whether different cultures affect attachment style by comparing Korean and American adolescents, with a focus on parent attachment and peer attachment. Data were collected from middle and high school students(291 Korean adolescents, 158 American adolescents), and the participants were asked to report on the revised version of the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment(IPPA-R). The analysis showed significant differences on both parent and peer attachment between Korean and American adolescents: Korean adolescents had more negative relationships with their parents compared to American adolescents. In contrast, Korean adolescents had more positive relations(high trust and communication score, low alienation score) with their friends than American adolescents. More results on the relationships between attachment style and socio-environmental variables were presented, and each of these results could be interpreted by cultural difference. Based on these results, parent-child programs and peer programs that can enrich the relationships that a child has with his or her parents and friends were introduced for researchers, educators, teachers, and counselors. The implications and recommendations for future research were also presented.

  • This study tries to explain customer experience in retail stores from a holistic perspective including hedonic, economic, symbolic, and relational dimensions. We also attempt to empirically investigate the effect of each dimension of customer experience on the store attitude and store attachment and the differential influence of the store attitude and attachment on the commitment toward store. The major findings from empirical analysis are as follows. First, all four dimensions of customer experience positively impact on the store attitude. Second, symbolic and relational dimensions of customer experience have a positive effect on the store attachment while hedonic and economic dimensions don't. Third, the store attachment more positively influence the commitment toward store than the store attitude do. This paper extends the scope of the study on consumer experience in retail setting by broadening the dimensions of it and testing the differential effect of each dimensions empirically. The results of this research can provide useful implications for practitioners to build successful strategies on customer experience management in retail stores.

  • This study investigated the relationship between self-esteem and the maladaptive behavior of the youth and examined the moderating effects of father attachment and mother attachment in the relationship of self-esteem and maladaptive behavior. Utilizing SPSS win18.0 program for data analysis, after carrying out descriptive statistics analysis and a simple correlation analysis, hierarchical multiple regression analysis was performed to investigate the interaction model, the primary purpose of this study. The results of this study are as follows. First, the relationship of both self-esteem and maladaptive behaviors of adolescents was significant in the negative direction. Second, father attachment showed no moderation effect in the relationship between self-esteem and maladaptive behavior of adolescents. Third, mother attachment played a quantitative moderating role in the relationship of self-esteem and maladaptive behaviors of adolescents. This study suggested the implication to reduce youth maladaptive behavior in the base of these results.

  • This thesis aims to investigate the mediatorial effect of peer attachments and self-esteem between the child abuse by their parents and the adolescents' life-satisfaction. In order to achieve this goal, the author analyzed the data gathered over 6 year period, which subjected 1823 third-year middle school students, a sample selected by the stratified-multilevel-sampling from the "Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey". The author collected the source material by means of SPSS WIN. 21.0 Program, frequency analysis, technological statistic analysis, relative analysis, path analysis (for satisfaction), and sobel test, etc. The results of analysis are as follows: Firstly, the child abuse by their parents has had a significant negative maladjustment on the participants' life satisfaction level. Secondly, the peer attachments had an influence on partial mediatorial effect between the child abuse by their parents and adolescents' content(satisfied) lives. Lastly, the self-esteem had an influence on the complete mediatorial effect between the child abuse by their parents and the adolescents' happy lives. The author gave an improved counterplan for peer attachments and self-esteem. The author suggests following researchers to include the impact of versatile environmental factors on adolescents' life satisfaction level which was excluded in the present research.
