According to traditional 2D animation techniques, anticipation makes an animation much convincing and expressive. We present an automatic method for inserting anticipation effects to an existing facial animation. Our approach assumes that an anticipatory facial expression can be found within an existing facial animation if it is long enough. Vertices of the face model are classified into a set of components using principal components analysis directly from a given hey-framed and/or motion -captured facial animation data. The vortices in a single component will have similar directions of motion in the animation. For each component, the animation is examined to find an anticipation effect for the given facial expression. One of those anticipation effects is selected as the best anticipation effect, which preserves the topology of the face model. The best anticipation effect is automatically blended with the original facial animation while preserving the continuity and the entire duration of the animation. We show experimental results for given motion-captured and key-framed facial animations. This paper deals with a part of broad subject an application of the principles of traditional 2D animation techniques to 3D animation. We show how to incorporate anticipation into 3D facial animation. Animators can produce 3D facial animation with anticipation simply by selecting the facial expression in the animation.

Animation is completed in accordance with the original planning of visual direction in the process of post-production. Especially, a variety of visualization skills to meet the planning idea are directed in editing and compositing processes such as rendering and shading in the production of 3D animation. Therefore, the studies how to implement these visual effects have been conducted since the emergence of the animation. The rendering method which appears in the recent animations so often is the effect of 2D animation style although it is applied by 3D technique. 3D animation can be classified as two types including photo realistic and non-photo realistic renderings. The former is to render the images realistically while the latter is to highlight the formative effect with analogue style free from the realism of the photographs. Visual effect of 2D animation is non-realistic, that is, non-photo realistic rendering. The animations produced by this method have the depth of 3D animation expression in terms of space and animating, and can direct the viewer-friendly analogue style visuals, which are widely used as a post-production effect. Hence in this study, we selected a short animation, 'Paperman,' one of Disney's animations, produced by cartoon rendering method which belongs to the class of non-photo rendering technique in 3D graphics, as our subject. We analyzed their techniques and visual effects of the scenes expressed by cartoon rendering method so as to understand whether they meet the original direction idea with the composition work. In addition, we expect further developments of post-production methods, exceeding the limit of graphic expression in alignment with the trend that has become more various in the types and genres of non-photo rendering.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the visual effects of autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) found in animations. So far, ASMR contents have been produced in one-person media or advertising contents with particular purposes. Unlike that, in animations, they have been produced in intuitive forms mainly for delivering messages. From the 2000's, however, gradually, animations intended for both appreciation and comfort and healing appeared, and such effects are similar to those of ASMR contents. This study has analyzed the visual effects of ASMR focusing on the Korean animated "Sonagi"(2017).
The purpose of this study is to analyze the problem of existing stop motion animation and to apply 3D printer technology and computer special effect technology applied with latest technology as a solution to solve this problem. For this purpose, we review the history of stop motion animation and confirm how the technology applied to stop motion animation through previous research. As a result, we have overcome limitations of the existing stop motion animation limited to the cline cloth in terms of expression by using 3D printer like recently released and . Furthermore, the natural phenomenon, which is the biggest limitation of stop motion animation, was able to produce a unique work of stop motion animation rather than computer special effect processing. Therefore, in the stop-motion animation, the acceptance of 3D printer technology and computer special effects technology has enabled unlimited imagination and original expression. Recent technology-based stop-motion animation is expected to provide the foundation for the continued development of the animation field in the future.
The advancement of computer technology has blurred the border in image expression between live-action films and 3D animation to an indistinguishable extent. Despite the ever-evolving image expression, it has been found that animation properly incorporating abstractive expression receives more positive responses from the audience than the animation closely akin to live-action films. This indicates that animation-specific abstractive expression can exert more significant effects than that of live-action expression as proved in Dr. Mori Masahiro's 'Uncanny Valley.' Also, such effects apply only to characters, whilst the technology capable of live-action expression is acknowledged only for the background of 3D animation. Without doubt, animation has its own infinite world of expression, and thus more effective methods for its expression can no longer be considered a matter of technology. The present study analyzes the abstractive expression of 3D animation in terms of characters and backgrounds and explores a more effective method to apply the current technology of image expression to 3D animation with a view to proposing a direction for more appropriate application of 3D animation technology to future animation.

Even if shots in frames may be variable in both movies and animations, close-up reveals the significance of the subject in the focus. Because directors and animators take the place the actor as character in animation while performance of actor plays an important role in the close-up in the movies, it is significant to understand the close-up in the animation. In the present study we investigate the dramatic effect of close-up in the animation narrative in animations for theaters. Among the various dramatic effects of the close-up, the natural flow of the narrative and the induction of immersing in emotion are focused. Descriptive close-up is analyzed as a dramatic effect of inducing the natural flow of the narrative. Psychological close-up is analyzed as the induction of immersing emotion by effective delivery of internal mental state of a character. By analyzing symbolic close-up as the induction of immersing in the play by producing a dramatic effect, we expect that the close-up contribute to the advance of animation narrative structure.
