As the increase of an environmental disease has become a social problem after industrialization, academic interest in a spatial difference and characteristics of an environmental disease is on rise. The purpose of this study is to analyze the spatial distribution and characteristics of an environmental disease using the data provided by National Health Insurance Corporation in 2009. This research is focusing on atopic dermatitis among a variety of environmental diseases and shows the map that atopic dermatitis patients are distributed. Also, The Local Moran's I show how spatial autocorrelation of atopic dermatitis patients are distributed. First, the distribution of atopic dermatitis patients show the spatial difference. Second, 42 places including the western part of Incheon are hot spots of atopic dermatitis. Third, 39 places including Danyang are cold spot of atopic dermatitis. Forth, Jeju-si and Seogwipo-si are unusually hot spot of atopic dermatitis. These results have important implications that further research need to be done in public health geography.

Atopic dermatitis is a chronic, recurrent, inflammatory skin disease that is a well-known allergic disease with severe itching, making daily life difficult. Since the immunomodulatory action of vitamin D has been reported, several researchers have attempted to determine the correlation between vitamin D and atopic dermatitis. In this review, 41 articles meeting the inclusion criteria were selected and reviewed from the articles published to date. Several studies have reported that low vitamin D levels are associated with the onset of atopic dermatitis and severe atopic dermatitis, but the opinions remain conflicting. Similarly, there are conflicting opinions on the improvement effect of oral vitamin D supplementation on atopic dermatitis, but some possibilities have been suggested. To apply vitamin D as a therapeutic agent for atopic dermatitis, a more systematically designed experiment should be conducted, and an appropriate intake dose for an immunomodulatory function should be obtained.

'현대병' '문명병' '환경병'으로 불리는 아토피, 어린이 3명 중에 한 명이 아토피에 걸려 부모의 마음을 아프게 하고 있다. 아토피는 '기묘한' '비정상적인 반응' '뜻을 알 수 없는' 등의 의미를 가진 그리스어 '아토포스(Atophos)'가 그 어원이다. 어원 그대로 아직까지 아토피는 명확한 원인과 치료법을 찾지 못했다. 다만 면역질환이라는 것만 확실하며, 새집증후군과 환경오염을 포함한 다양한 환경적인 문제, 화학조미료와 각종 식품첨가물이 포함한 음식문제, 유전적인 문제로 그 원인을 짚어 볼 수 있다. 결국 아토피는 생활관리가 중요한 만큼 가정에서 자녀의 아토피를 치료하는데 도움이 되는 실질적인 방법 다섯가지를 소개한다.

Patients with atopic dermatitis, an intractable disease, suffer uncontrollable psychological distress as well as various symptoms in their skin. Recent findings showed that mental factors such as stress may play a role in the disease and that some techniques for alleviating psychological problems were efficacious in the atopic dermatitis. Therefore, we proposed the mind-body medicine that has been used to decrease the negative influences of stress and to cure psychosomatic disorders as an additional remedy for the atopic dermatitis. A model on the therapeutic effect of mind-body medicine and some qualities of practician also were discussed.

This paper explores the historical process that created a specific understanding of and responses to atopic dermatitis(AD) in Korea. AD hardly has a status of an environmental disease in other societies but it is a representative environmental disease in South Korea in connection with various environmental pollutants, most notably with endocrine disrupting chemicals. This understanding of AD as an environmental disease led to an unprecedented legislation of the Environmental Health Act of 2008, a broad environmental health law with the precautionary principle and the focus on human aspect of environmental problems. In line with the growing body of works that articulate the roles of the public and culture in regulatory process, this paper argues that both the understanding of and the regulatory responses to AD owe greatly to the knowledge and political practice of the public, especially that of the 'Atopy moms'. Their knowledge practice that creatively appropriated scientific uncertainty regarding AD brought unexpected epistemological and political alliances, respectively with alternative medicine and with organic coop movement and an emergent political party and generated enough dynamics for the legislation of the EHA.

The main goal of this study to find out the relationship between the volume of tap water usage and the prevalence of environmental diseases and thus derive a conclusion that environmental diseases such as atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, and asthma are subject to spatial factors. The results of this study are summarized as follows: First, the more the household consumes more tap water the higher the instance of atopic dermatitis; second, the number of allergic rhinitis patients increases as the volume of wastewater rises in an area; and finally, the number of asthma patients is not influenced by any of the variables including household water usage volume, industrial water usage volume, and wastewater output volume. This study has proven statistically that water usage volume is closely related to environmental diseases, in particular, to atopic dermatitis, which the authors believe will be used as important basis.

얼마 전 5살 된 남아가 '아토피 때문에 왔어요' 하면서 진찰실 문을 열고 당당하게 들어왔다. 아마 다른 병원에서 진찰을 받고서 여러 가지 설명을 들은 모양이다. 더욱 재미난 것은 '얼굴에는 없는데 팔과 다리에 있어요. 긁지는 않아요. 인스턴트 식품을 안 먹었습니다' 하면서 묻기도 전에 연속적인 설명을 그럴듯하게 하였다. 이렇게 아토피피부염(atopic dermatitis)은 흔한 질환이 되고 있다.

This study was evaluated the antiatopic activity of cream containing a herb extracts mixed with Houttuynia cordata in DNCB-induced BALB/c atopy mouse. The randomized complete block design was done by BALB/c mouse into two groups, of which the control group with atopy and the cream treatment group. It was found that each level of IgE and histamine in blood was significantly decreased in the cream treatment group, compared with the DNCB-induced atopy control group. When the cream was applied to the atopy mouse, it could be observed that its skin recovered to normal condition with the skin surface being clean and smooth without any horny tissue. The results suggest that the application of herb extracts mixed with Houttuynia cordata has an antiatopic activity through a inhibition of histamin emissions with reducing the levels of blood IgE in BALB/C atopy mouse.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of allergic diseases and its related factorsin Korean adolescents. The subjects were 72,435 middle and high school students. The data were analyzed by ${\chi}^2$ test and multiple logistic regression analysis. The prevalence of asthma, allergic rhinitis, and atopic dermatitis was 9.3%, 30.6%, and 23.4%, respectively. According to multiple logistic regression analysis, asthma was associated with gender, age, economic state, obesity, stress, sleep satisfaction, secondhand smoking, drug use, other allergic diseases and physical activity. Allergic rhinitis was associated with age, economic state, residential area, type of residence, obesity, stress, sleep satisfaction, smoking experience, secondhand smoking, alcohol drinking, other allergic diseases and physical activity. Finally, atopic dermatitis was associated with gender, age, economic state, residential area, obesity, stress, other allergic diseases and physical activity. Conclusion: These results will provide database for prevention and management of allergic diseases.
